<P>The detection of colon cancer using endoscopy is widely used, but the interpretation of the diagnosis is based on the clinician’s naked eye. This is subjective and can lead to false detection. Here we developed a rapid and accurate molecular fluorescence imaging technique using antibody-coated quantum dots (Ab–QDs) sprayed and washed simultaneously on colon tumor tissues inside live animals, subsequently excited and imaged by endoscopy. QDs were conjugated to matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) 9, MMP 14, or carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) Abs with zwitterionic surface coating to reduce nonspecific bindings. The Ab–QD probes can diagnose tumors on sectioned mouse tissues, fresh mouse colons stained <I>ex vivo</I> and also <I>in vivo</I> as well as fresh human colon adenoma tissues in 30 min and can be imaged with a depth of 100 μm. The probes successfully detected not only cancers that are readily discernible by bare eyes but also hyperplasia and adenoma regions. Sum and cross signal operations provided postprocessed images that can show complementary information or regions of high priority. This multiplexed quantum dot, spray-and-wash, and endoscopy approach provides a significant advantage for detecting small or flat tumors that may be missed by conventional endoscopic examinations and bestows a strategy for the improvement of cancer diagnosis.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancac3/2014/ancac3.2014.8.issue-9/nn5009269/production/images/medium/nn-2014-009269_0012.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nn5009269'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Modern soccer tries to apply VAR (Video Assistant Referee) technology to correct inaccurate calls such as an offside, but this is being put off due to the fact that real time decision-making cannot be carried out by using this technology. This has led this study to decide developing a device that will accurately identify offsides on a real time basis using various latest sensors and related technologies. This device will aid referees in calling offsides in a soccer match.

Receiver Protection from Electrical Shock in Vehicle Wireless Charging Environments

This paper deals with the electrical shock that can occur in a car wireless charging system. The recently released the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) standard specifies that the receiver must be protected from the radio power generated by the transmitter and presents two scenarios in which the receiver may be subjected to electrical shock due to the wireless power generated by the transmitter. The WPC also provides a hardware approach for blocking the wireless power generated by the transmitter to protect the receiver in each situation. In addition, it presents the hardware constraints that must be applied to the transmitter and the parameters that must be constrained by the software. In this paper, we analyze the results of the electric shock in the vehicle using the WPC certified transmitter and receiver in the scenarios presented by WPC. As a result, we found that all the scenarios had electrical shocks on the receiver, which could have a significant impact on the receiver circuitry. Therefore, we propose wireless power transfer limit (WPTL) algorithm to protect receiver circuitry in various vehicle charging environments.
블루투스를 이용한 DirectShow기반의 H.264 동영상 플레이어의 설계 및 구현

본 논문에서는 블루투스를 이용한 DirectShow기반의 H.264 동영상 플레이어의 구현에 대해 기술한다. 블루투스는 근거리상의 디바이스들을 무선으로 연결하여 통신하는 기술이고 DirectShow는 Microsoft사가 개발한 멀티미디어 프레임워크이자 API로 소스필터 기반이다. 동영상 스트리밍 데이터를 블루투스를 이용하여 전송을 하고 DirectShow기반의 필터가 데이터를 받아 해당 데이터를 필요로 하는 필터에게 보내게 된다. 이 때 블루투스로부터 데이터를 받게 되는 부분은 쓰레드를 생성하여 데이터를 받도록 구현하였다.

Objectives: With the surge in the elderly population, a growing interest in the prevention and treatment of geriatric diseases has been observed, along with awareness of the severity of problems associated with dementia, a cognitive impairment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between chewing ability and cognitive function among elderly people residing in a rural area. Methods: A total of 162 elderly individuals, aged between 65 and 97 years, were surveyed. Trained examiners conducted interviews and assessments of chewing ability, on the basis of the number of remaining teeth, denture status, masticatory performance evaluating gum, ShadeEye-NCC measuring overall change in color of the gum (ΔE), and T-Scan<sup>®</sup>III analyzing distribution of occlusion patterns. Cognitive function was assessed using the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination-Dementia Screening (MMSE-DS) tool. Results: Participants with a low score in the MMSE-DS were found to have distinguishably lower denture need, smaller number of remaining teeth, and lesser color change in the masticatory performance evaluating gum. In the cognitive impairment group, a tendency of having unilateral and anterior occlusion led to occlusal discomfort and chewing difficulties. Conclusions: The study highlights important associations between chewing ability and cognitive function. The finding corroborates that tooth loss may be a predictive risk factor for cognitive impairment.
블루투스를 이용한 DirectShow기반의 H.264 동영상 플레이어의 설계 및 구현

블루투스는 저전력으로 근거리상의 디바이스들을 무선으로 연결하여 통신하는 기술이나 저속의 통신속도를 갖고 있다. 따라서 파일이나 네트워크상의 동영상 스트리밍을 위한 플레이어는 많지만 Bluetooth를 통한 동영상 재생기는 찾아보기 힘든 상황이다. 낮은 데이터 전송 속도를 갖는 Bluetooth를 통해 동영상을 전송시 인코더로는 높은 압축 효율을 보이는 MPEG-4 AVC/H.264가 적합하다. DirectShow는 Microsoft사가 개발한 소스필터 기반의 멀티미디어 프레임워크이자 API이다. DirectShow를 이용하여 다른 어플리케이션에서도 사용할 수 있는 필터를 쉽고 빠르게 개발할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 H.264방식으로 인코딩된 동영상 데이터를 블루투스를 통해 전송받아 디코딩하여 재생시킬 수 있는 DirectShow 기반의 플레이어의 설계 및 구현 방법에 대해 기술한다. 다양한 비디오 샘플을 가지고 실험하여 개발된 프로그램의 타당성을 입증하였다. Bluetooth is a popular wireless data transmission method with low power consumption, but it has low data transmission rate. Thus, although many video stream players of a local or network file exist, there have been few players of video stream transmitted via Bluetooth. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 codec is one of video codecs available with best compression rates for a certain quality, so a H.264 encoder seems to be adequate for video stream to be transmitted via Bluetooth. In this paper, we present a DirectShow filter based player of video stream encoded by H.264 codec, which is transmitted via Bluetooth. Details on the design and implementation of this program are described. Experimental results are shown to demonstrate the validity of the implemented program using various video samples.
