Geoffrey Chaucer who is the Father of Modern English poetry, was born as the son of a well-to-do wine merchant, and spent his boyhood in the down-to-earth atmoshere of London's Vintry, the wine-merchandising area;despite the privileges, especially in the way of education, that his father's wealth secured for him, he must have mixed daily with other commoners of all sorts, and he was reader who had studied most of the literature available at his time. In 1357 he was employed in the se vice of Lionel, afterwards duke of Clarence, he entered military service in 1359, served in France, was taken prisoner, but shortly ransomed. He married Philippa, probably sister of John of Gount's third wife, and evidently enjoyed John of Gount's patronage, Philipp died apparently in 1387. Chaucer held various positions at court, and was sent on a mission to Genoa and Florence in 1374-3, when he met Boccaccio and Petrarch. In 1374 he was appointed controller of customs in the port of London and leased the dwelling-house over Aldgate. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, a monument being erected to him in 1555. Chaucer"s writings show his taste for medieval literature particularly as it was found in France. He delighted in allegory, and in the elebrate sentiments of courtly love. Even if he is not the auther of the translation of the Romance of the Rose of Guilaume de Lorris and the satirical Jean de Meung, he studied their poem closely. Guiliaume had treated woman with adoration and Lean with mockery, and Chaucer remembered both ways in his own adoration and Lean with mockery, and Chaucer remembered both ways in his own verses. In 1369 Chaucer poduced his first major work, the Book of the Duchess, and elegy for Jean of Gount's first wife, the lovely Blanche of Lancaster, who died in 1369. One of his funniest poen, The House of Fame, written sometime while Chaucer was in the costoms, may be read as a lighthearted imitation of The Divine Comedy, though not a wholly successful one. These poems, with his lyrics, the ballades, and rondels, would have made him a considerable poet for his century. Many of the Canterbury Tales are indebted to one or another of Boccaccio's works, as is his lovely, cryptic love vision, the Parliament of Fowls and his longest poem, Troilus and Criseid, probably completed about 1385, is an adaption of Boccaccio's Il Filostrato. Even if he had never written the Canterbury Tales, Troilus would have secured Chaucer a place among the great English poets. Chaucer proba bly began work on the Canterbury Tales in 1386, and this was his chief literary interest until his death.

The amorphous ?? alloy are studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy at room temperature. This sample are produced by single roll quenching method. The analysis of the distribution of hyperfine fields indicates two peaks. The bimodal P(H) features are as following:?? kOe and ?? =273 kOe. This represents that this sample has the inhomogeneous magnetic structure. The average isomer shift is 0.097 mm/s, the quadrupole splitting is 0.022mm/s. The absorption intensity, b, of M??ssbauer spectrum is about 2.91 and the number of Fourier parameters is eight.

Anisakiasis refers to parasitic infestation by nematode larvae that belongs to the subfamily Anisakinae, and this condition is seen in people who eat inadequately prepared or raw salt-water fish. While gastric anisakiasis is commonly diagnosed by endoscopic technique, intestinal anisakiasis is rare because it is less common and the clinical and radiologic features are poorly understood. The authors report a case of human anisakiasis involving the ileocecal valve in 62-year-old man who had the history of eating raw cuttlefish.

말초부위의 후뇌동맥류의 외과적 치료

Advances in microneurosurgical treatment of arterial aneurysm have led to increased interest being focused on aneurysm situated within the posterior cerebral fossa. Despite this, reports of neurosurgical intervention in such cases are still rare and there is no report about the distal posterior cerebral artery aneurysm in Korea. An aneurysm of the posterior cerebral artery has been referred to as a "distinct rarity", making up about 0.26 to 2.7% of all cerebral aneurysms. Especially, the incidence of the distal posterior cerebral artery aneurysm is quite rare and most of them are saccular in shape and single in number. The authors report a case of P4 segment aneurysm of left posterior cerebral artery, successfully treated by clipping cross neck and reviewed the literature, and discussed their anatomy, clinical feature, location, and variable operative methods.

정신분열병의 양성아형과 음성아형에 따른 사회적 지지망의 차이

In this study, positive versus negative symptoms of schizophrenia were examined in relation to social networks. The subjects consisted of 36 positive symptom(PS) and 35 negative symptom(NS) groups of schizophrenics admitted to the Anyang Neuropsychiatric Hospital. There was no significant difference in sociodemographic data(ie. sex, age, education etc) between the two groups. Structurally, the social network of NS group was smaller and contained lesser number of friends and family members than PS group. Furthermore, with respect to the functional aspect of social network. 1) The frequency of contact, comfortability, and material support given by the patients were much less in NS group. However, there was no difference in emotional, material, and informative support between the two groups. 2) In contrast with the PS group, in the 'most important person' category of social network in the NS group, the proportion of 'other people' (fellow patients, hospital staff etc) was much higher than that of friends and family members. 3) All negative symptoms correlated negatively with the size of social network. However, no such relationship existed among PS group. These results indicated close relationships existing between different types of schizophrenic symptoms and the structural and functional aspect of social network.

임신중 뇌동맥류의 외과적 치료 : 증례보고 A Case Report

A multiparous 28-year-old woman, suffering ruptured intracranial aneurysm during pregnancy is presented. Clipping of the aneurysm was performed in 32 weeks of gestational age. Three weeks after operation, she delivered vaginally without complication. Delivery may be managed according to obstetrical indication following surgical correction of the aneurysm. The authors reviewed the literature, and discussed the neurosurgical and obstetric management of such patients.

Mossbauer 분광법에 의한 2605S3 Metglas의 배위수 및 국소자기장 분포

We analysed the Mossbauer spectra of ferromagnetic 2605S3 Metglas submitted to various tilt angles;it is concluded that the hyperfine parameters and their correlations depend on the state of the tilt angle. The fact that the mean coordination number is 10.03, the structure of this material is well defined by Bernal's DRPHS model. Also, methods based on linear combination of spectra can be used.

β-d-glucopyranose에 대한 순이론적 연구: 4C1chairform

In this study, we have investigated potential energies of β-D glucopyranose in vacuum using QM and MM methods. In QM calculation, the local minimum geometries have been optimized in the level of B3LYP/6-311++G**. And we use AMBER package program and GLYCAM_06 force field for MM optimization. As a consequence, we confirm that GLYCAM_06 force field matched QM calculation roughly.

무작위 대조 이중맹검 시험을 통한 봉독 약침의 류마티스 관절염 치료 효과 연구

Objective : This study was performed in order to evaluate the effect of bee venom therapy on rheumatoid arthritis by randomized controlled double blind method. Method : RA patients were recruited and divided into an experiment group and a control group by random selection. As a double blind test, the experiment group was treated with bee venom injection on acupoints, and the control group was treated with normal saline injection on acupoints twice a week for 8 weeks. Tender joint count, swollen joint count, morning stiffness, pain, health assessment questionnaire, ESR. and CRP were estimated and analyzed at baseline, and at 1 month and 2 months after bee venom therapy Results : Compared to the control group, the experiment group showed significant decrease in tender joint count swollen joint count, morning stiffness, and health assessment questionnaire after 2 months. Pain, ESR and CRP showed significant decrease in the experiment group after 1 & 2 months. Conclusions : These results suggests that bee venom therapy could be an effective method in the treatment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
