This paper investigates the technical efficiency and total factor productivity of the Bangladesh textile industry after Rana Plaza tragedy by using Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) method during the period of 2009 to 2015. We used Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) method to estimate the effects of potential factors that influenced the total factor productivity (TFP) of the firms. The result shows that after the Rana Plaza tragedy the textile firms experienced decline in total factor productivity. The regression estimation indicates that wage of labor, Rana Plaza tragedy, and internal political crisis are found to have negative effect on textile firms.
A Study on the Export Potential of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments
Sumon Hossain,오근엽 대한경영정보학회 2018 경영과 정보연구 Vol.37 No.2
This article explores the international trade flow of Bangladesh’s ready-made garments (RMG). We first suggest the brief history and an international structure of trade among countries by using the trade volume. Then we implemented a gravity model regression with the sample of 38 major partner countries in order to investigate the potential export market for the RMG industry. The fixed effect and random effect model for the panel data during the period of 1990 to 2011 are estimated. Our result shows that Bangladesh’s RMG exports are affected positively by the size of economy, inflation, exchange rate, foreign direct investment(FDI) and trade openness. On the other hand, the distance between trading partners are related negatively with the trade volume. We used the estimated coefficients from the panel regression in order to predict RMG export potential of Bangladesh. This might show which country is the promising export market for Bangladesh RMG industry. We found that Bangladesh has the highest potential of RMG export with Japan and USA, which seem to have considerable room for export growth if trade barriers and constraints are removed. We added some policy implications for encouraging the RMG export of Bangladesh by using the results from the analysis.

The study was carried out to assess the production performances of Japanese quail parent stock raised under open housing system and the study was conducted in a local farm with 2000 Japanese parent stock quail birds (Coturnix coturnix japonica). Observed body weight gain was recorded in each weekend up to 7 weeks of their age; birds gained weight 15.73, 31.45, 47.20, 90.80, 125.27, 153.14 and 175.20 grams, respectively. There have been observed sharp decline of fertility and hatchability of birds with increase of their age. Optimum fertility was recorded at third week and optimum hatchability at fifth week of their age. Average flock uniformity was found 83.68%. The hen day egg production of the flock was recorded 81, 83, 85, 86, 89, 89, 89, 89 and 88% in each weekend, respectively. It may therefore be concluded that Japanese quail parent stock performs well under open housing system in Bangladesh and future study can be taken to better understand their production performances.

Design and Performance Evaluation of NPK Briquette Applicator for Small-Scale Upland Crops
Miah Md. Sumon,Rahman Md Mashiur,Hoque Muhammad Arshadul,Hossain Md. Ayub 한국농업기계학회 2022 바이오시스템공학 Vol.47 No.3
Purpose Surface broadcasting application of prilled nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) fertilizer by hand in small-scale upland crops is time-consuming, labor-intensive, and wastes of a significant amount of fertilizer, contributing to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Methods For this, a novel hand-held applicator for subsoil placement of NPK briquette was designed, developed, and tested both in the laboratory and experimental fields to evaluate applicator performance and its impact on field crop performance. The applicator works with the four mechanisms—feeding, metering, delivery, and subsurface placement with covering. The field experiment was conducted with four application treatments (NPK briquette application by applicator and hand, prilled NPK fertilizer as same dose and standard dose as applied by farmers). Results The result showed that the applicator had the highest consistent placement of NPK briquette (no losses) during laboratory and field tests. The applicator had a field capacity of 0.039 ha/h and field efficiency of 86.6%, which resulted in better performance than other application methods. The average hole coverage was 85.6%, the depth of placement was 77 mm, and the distance between the plant and the briquette application was 96.8 mm, all of which were close to the reference value. Moreover, crop yield was higher or similar to NPK briquette application by the applicator but significantly (p≤0.05) higher than other application methods. The weight of the applicator is 1.8 kg, so farmers can efficiently operate this user-friendly applicator. Conclusion NPK briquette applicator has shown excellent performance and significant potential for accurate, consistent, and deep precision placement of NPK briquette in the crop root zone for upland crops. Furthermore, the applicator has several advantages, including lower fertilizer costs and less drudgery associated with hand placement, which encourages farmers on a small-scale upland crop production.
