        The study of Electroluminescence has been begun with that the two Germans, B. Gudden & R. W. Pohl in 1920 examined the remaining lights by dint of adding Electric Field at the fluorescent substance, and from 1952 the study became brisk, in 1960 made a peak, and afterward it was diminished. The above facts were appeared through H. E. Ivey`s investigation. The cause was it that the light-efficiency and the brightness were very pessimistic, though the beginning of EL-Study was given in the development of illumination. In 1950, however, with the initiative that C. W. Jerome of Sylvania Co. deviced and announced EL-Lamp, EL-Fluorescent substances were embed and merchandised as EL-Panels, and after a while it was applied to EL-Lamps, Expression Apparatuses, Light Amplifier, Logic Circuit and so on, with which the use frequency got high, and it has been developed as a promising Electronic Industry. But in our country, considering the various conditions, in order to find out the possibility of EL-Production within the home country, Impurity was introduced to ZnS powder, EL of ZnS : Cu, Cl & ZnS : Cu, Mn, Cl could be manufactured, and surveying the Voltage Characteristics, the Frequency Characteristics, and the Spectral Response of the manufactured things, the fundamental technique-problems about the composition of ZnS powder, the introduction of impurity, the formation of thin-thickness, and the construction of Cell, etc were solved gradually. 1. The quantity of Cu must commonly be more one order than in the use of Photoluminescence, as a whole 10(-3)gm,atm/mole ZnS is fitted, and Mn suitable in about 10 times of Cu. 2. Yellow color must dope Cu as well as Mn, when the quantity of Cu fixed to a certain amount, in case that the quantity of Mn is decreased, it be turned into Yellow color, if it is increased, it be taken Orange color. 3. In vacuum flowing HzS gas and baking at the moment, it is said that EL of which brightness is high, but in the air we can secure ZnS : Cu, Cl EL. only. 4. In referring to the conditions 1, 2, 3, I can infer that EL-manufacture if possible in our country.

      • 청각장애 성인의 말명료도 평가방법의 비교

        This study aims to discuss the test methodologies that evaluate the speech intelligibility of hearing-impaired adults using various contexts. Seven adults with severe hearing loss participated in the experiment. The context of the speech intelligibility consists of 77 pairs of one-syllable words with phonemic contrasts, 30 two-syllable words and the list of each 12 and 10 sentences. The speech intelligibility of various contexts had significant correlation, and both one-syllable words with phonemic contrasts and the sentence 1 had higher correlation than other tests. The one-syllable words with phonemic contrasts took longer to test than others, and it demanded more effort to select the pair of words. However, from the point of view of the identification of segmental difficulties, the one-syllable words with phonemic contrasts that reflected segmental factors contributing to the intelligibility was useful.

      • Mycophenolic Acid와 Rapamycin이 흰쥐 사구체 혈관간세포증식과 세포외기질 생성에 미치는 영향

        Background: Excess proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation of mesenchymal cells such as vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and glomerular mesangial cells cause chronic allograft nephropathy showing transplant vascular sclerosis and glomerulosclerosis. Mycophenolic acid (MPA) and rapamycin (RPM) are well known as strong inhibitors of VSMC proliferation, but their effects on the glomerular mesangial cells are not yet clearly understood. This study examined the effects of MPA or RPM on PDGF-induced proliferation and ECM accumulation in rat glomerular mesangial cells. Methods: Mesangial cells isolated from the glomeruli of Sprague-Dawley rats were cultured with DMEM containing 20% fetal bovine serum. Growth arrested and synchronized cells were administered with test drugs (MPA10 nM-10μM, RPM 0.1 nM-1μM) before the addition of PDGF 10 ng/mL. Cell proliferation was assessed by [³H]thymidine incorporation, collagen by [³H]proline incorporation, and fibronectin, ERK, and p38 MAPK by Western blot analysis. Results: PDGF increased mesangial cell proliferation by 4.64-fold. Compared to stimulated control, MPA above 500 nM and RPM above 10nM showed a significant inhibitory effect in a dose-dependent manner. The IC_(50) of MPA and RPM against PDGF-induced mesangial cell proliferation were around 500 nM and 100 nM, respectively. The collagen synthesis was also inhibited by MPA and RPM, but the fibronectin secretion was inhibited by MPA alone. The proliferation of mesangial cell correlated with activation of ERK and. p38 MAPK. MPA, but not RPM, inhibited ERK and p38 MAPK activation. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that MPA and RPM significantly inhibited PDGF-induced proliferation and ECM production in rat glomerular mesangial cells. The inhibitory effects of MPA, but not RPM, are correlated with ERK and p38 MAPK.

        아시아 지역 폐렴 구균의 항균제 내성 현황 및 변화 양상 : Asian Network for Surveillance of Resistant Pathogens (ANSORP) Study

        목적 : 1980년대부터 페니실린을 비롯한 β-lactam 계열과 비 β-lactam 계열 항균제에 대한 폐렴구균의 항생제 내성이 급격하게 증가하여 국내 뿐 아니라 세계적인 문제로 대두되고 있다. ANSORP 에서는 아시아 지역에서 폐렴구균의 항균제 내성과 그 변화 추이, 내성의 기전 및 위험인자를 분석하고자 본 국제 공동 연구를 시행하였다. 재료 및 방법 : 1999년 11월부터 2001년 8월까지 아시아 지역 12개국의 14개 기관에서 폐렴구균 감염증 환자의 임상 검체로 분리된 침습성 폐렴구균을 대상으로 액체배지 미량희석법을 이용하여 16개 항생제의 MIC를 구하였다. 위험인자의 분석을 위하여 폐렴구균 감염증 환자를 대상으로 의무기록지를 조사하였다. Quellung 반응을 통해 혈청형을 결정하였다. 결과 : 총 685균주 중 52.4%가 페니실린에 대하여 비감수성(중등도 내성 22.9%, 내성 29.5%)을 보였고, 그 빈도는 베트남(92.1%), 스리랑카(85.7%), 홍콩(67.9%), 한국(64.5%)의 순이었다. Erythromycin에 대한 비감수성 비율은 베트남(92.1%), 대만(87.7%), 한국(80.6%), 홍콩(76.8%) 등에서 높게 나타났고, 베트남, 대만, 한국, 홍콩 등의 erythromycin의 MIC_(90)이 32㎍/mL를 넘는 고도내성을 보였다. 홍콩, 싱가포르, 대만, 인도에서는 fluoroquinolone에 대한 내성 균주가 출현하였다. 전체 균주 중 다제내성 균주의 비율은 47.7%였다. 혈청형은 19형과 23형이 가장 많았고, 그 외 6형, 14형 등이 있었다. 페니실린 비감수성 감염증의 위험인자로는 5세 미만(OR=1.7; 95%, CI, 1.2-2.4; P=0.002), 기관지폐질환(OR=2.0; 95%, CI, 1.3-3.1; P=0.003), 악성종양(OR=2.3; 95%, CI, 1.2-4.6; P=0.015), 스테로이드의 사용(OR=2.8; 95%, CI, 1.1-7.4; P=0.032)이 확인되었다. 결론 : 침습성 폐렴구균 균주를 대상으로 한 본 연구의 결과 아시아 국가들에서 페니실린, β-lactam 및 macrolide에 대한 폐렴구균의 내성률 및 내성 정도가 급증하고 있음을 확인하였다. Background : Emergence of pneumococcal resistance became a global issue since 1990s. According to the ANSORP studies with clinical isolates and carriage isolates between 1996 and 1999, some Asian countries showed alarmingly high prevalence of resistance to penicillin and other antimicrobial agents. To investigate the changing trends of pneumococcal resistance, ANSORP study group has performed a multinational surveillance study with invasive pneumococcal isolates from Asian countries. Methods : All isolates from various invasive pneumococcal diseases were prospectively collected from 14 centers in 12 countries between November 1999 to August 2001. Broth microdilution tests with 16 antimicrobial agents were performed according to the NCCLS procedures. Serotyping was performed by means of Quelling reaction with use of group-specific antisera. Results : A total of 685 isolates were collected. Overall, 52.4% of invasive isolates from Asian countries were not susceptible to penicillin (intermediate (1), 22.9%, Resistant (R), 29.5%). Vietnam showed the highest prevalence of penicillin non-susceptibility (1 20.6%, R 71.4%) followed by Sri Lanka (1 71.4%, R 14.3%), Hong Kong (1 24.1%, R 76%) and Korea (1 9.7%, R 54.8%). China (I 19.8%, R 23.4%) and Malaysia (1 9.1%, R 29.5%) also showed remarkable increase in penicillin resistance compared with previous ANSORP data, which were less than 10%. Vietnam (92.1%), Taiwan (87.7%), Korea (80.6%), and Hong Kong (76.8%) showed high prevalence of erythromycin resistance. MIG_(90)S for ciprofloxacin were 4 ㎍/mL (Hong Kong) and 2 ㎍/mL (11 Asian countries except Hong Kong), respectively. Conclusion : Compared with previous data from ANSORP studies, antimicrobial resistance among invasive pneumococcal isolates has markedly increased in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, China, and Malaysia. Continuous surveillance of pneumococcal resistance in Asia is strongly warranted.

        The development of robotic welding process is a very complex assignment because the system is affected by a number of process parameters which are very difficult to determine or predict in practice. The full automation welding has not yet been achieved partly because the mathematical model for the process parameters of a given welding task is not fully understood and quantified. Several mathematical models to control welding quality, Productivity, micro structure and weld properties in arc welding processed have been studied. However, it is not an easy task to apply them to the various practical situations because the relationship between the process parameters and the bead geometry is non-linear and also they are usually dependent on specific experimental result. Practically, it is difficult, but important to know how to establish a mathematical model that can predict the result of the actual welding process and how to select the optimum welding condition under a certain constraint. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop an neural network model to predict the back-bead width as a function of key process parameters in the GMA (Gas Metal Arc) welding and to compare the developed models with the experimental results

        This paper is to evaluate practically the techniques and materials of repair for high strength concrete elements with fire damages as well as to investigate the structural behavior of beams according to pre- or post-repair after fire-damages. For this purpose, flexural specimens with high strength concrete were exposed to high temperatures by the ISO 834 specification. After natural cooling and post-fire-curing in a natural environment for 1 months, 6 specimens were loaded to failure after they were repaired with polymer cement mortar for 1 month curing.

        11β-수산화효소 결핍에 의한 선천성 부신증식증 1예

        저자들은 국내에서 처음으로 음핵 비대와 지속적인 질출혈을 주소로 내원한 19세 여성에서 고혈압이 동반되지 않으면서 11 -수산화효소 결핍으로 인한 선천성부신증식증을 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 이를 보고하는 바이다. Congenital adrenal hyperplasia refers to a group of autosomal recessive disorders that is defective in the synthesis of cortisol. The enzymes most often affected are 21-hydroxylase and 11 - hydroxylase. The low levels of cortisol stimulate the pituitary gland to release ACTH. Chronic elevation of the ACTH level causes bilateral adrenal hyperplasia and a secondary increase in androgen formation. We examined a 19 year-old woman presented with clitoral hypertrophy and vaginal spotting. The subjects basal level of serum cortisol was low, but the serum levels of ACTH, 17a-hydroxyprogesterone, deoxy-corticosterone were elevated. The urinary excretions of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids were also increased. The karyotyping study and transrectal ultrasonography showed normal findings. The patient underwent clitoris reduction surgery and received hydrocortisone. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of 11 -hydroxylase deficiency in Korea (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 19:58∼63, 2004).

        경부외측종괴의 감별진단 및 접근에 대한 고찰

        Most neck masses of specific cause occur in rather predictable locations within typical age groups. This allows a systematic approach to developing a working diagnosis and a differential diagnosis and management plan for the patient presenting with a neck mass. Pathologic masses of the neck will be divided into the following segment: 1. Masses of nonspecific location. 2. Masses in the submandibular region, 3. Masses in the parotid region, 4. Masses in the median-paramedian region, 5. Masses in the lateral neck region. The lateral neck region is the area posterior to the hyolaryngotracheal conduit, below the posterior belly of the digastric muscle and tip of the parotid gland, and extends down to the clavicle. The contents of this region include the large vessels, nerves and greatest number of lymph nodes of the neck, and lymph node metastasis in this region is usually from a primary lesion at the base of the tongue or elsewhere in the oropharynx. Common lateral neck masses include branchial cleft cyst, carotid body tumor, neurogenic tumor, pan-neck infection, cystic hygroma, hemangioma, lipoma and lymphoma. Especially lymphosarcoma. Hodgkin's disease, cystic hygroma, hemangioma and branchial cleft cyst and more common and often manifest in the young patients. Many head and neck disease processes manifest as neck masses. These conditions are treated by surgical excision, except for some inflammatory masses, and often those also must be excised before a diagnosis can be made. We retrospectively reviewed 5-year experiences in the treatment of lateral neck masses at our department to define better clinical characteristics of the masses and the optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to these rare diseases.
