The advantages of a constant volume combustion cycle as compared to constant pressure combustion in terms of thermodynamic efficiency has focused the search for advanced propulsion on detonation engines. Detonation of acetylene mixed with oxygen in various proportions is studied using mathematical modeling. Simplified kinetics of acetylene burning includes 11 reactions with 9 components. Deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) is obtained in a cylindrical tube with a section of obstacles modeling a Shchelkin spiral; the DDT takes place in this section for a wide range of initial mixture compositions. A modified ka-omega turbulence model is used to simulate flame acceleration in the Shchelkin spiral section of the system. The results of numerical simulations were compared with experiments, which had been performed in the same size detonation chamber and turbulent spiral ring section, and with theoretical data on the Chapman-Jouguet detonation parameters.
A method for purifying reprocessed uranium from even isotopes under conditions of multiple recycle

We proposed a modification of a double cascade scheme to enrich reprocessed uranium. Such a cascade scheme represents a combination of one cascade with “broadening” of the flow and an ordinary threeflow cascade. A calculation and optimization method has been developed for the proposed scheme according to various efficiency criteria. It is shown that the proposed scheme makes it possible to obtain low-enriched uranium of commercial quality using reprocessed uranium of different initial compositions. For example, the enrichment of reprocessed uranium, which had gone through five consequent recycles, was considered. The proposed scheme allowed to enrich it with simultaneous fulfillment of restrictions on isotopes 232U, 234U, and 236U. Such results indicate the scheme's applicability under conditions of multiple recycling of uranium in reactor fuel. Computational experiments have shown that in the proposed modification, a noticeable saving of natural uranium in the cycle (~18%) can be achieved, provided that the additional consumption of separative work does not exceed 10%, compared with the case of enrichment of natural uranium to obtain LEU of equivalent quality.

In order to fully comprehend the events taking place at the present time in the USSR, it is essential to keep in mind the basic character of Russian culture, whose development can be traced quite far back in history. The perestroika is in many ways a result of the economic system, i.e. of the inefficience of culture and ideology. The world of texts and ideas(i.e. of culture) has turned out to be just as signigicant for the perestroika as the world of economic production and consumption.

Towards DES in CFD-based optimization: The case of a sharp U-bend with/without rotation

Channels with a sharp U-bend are typical elements of convective cooling systems designed for blades of high-temperature gas turbines. The flow passing a sharp bend is characterized by a high level of pressure loss that is attributed to development of intensive secondary flows, as well as to formation of a large-size separation adjacent to the divider wall. A considerable reduction of pressure losses can be achieved by proper changes in geometry of the walls forming the U-bend, first of all, in the divider wall geometry. The paper presents results of CFD-based optimization of a stationary or orthogonally rotating U-bend of strong curvature. Baseline geometry is same as used by Cheah et al. (1996) for detailed measurements of U-duct isothermal turbulent flow at the Reynolds number of 10 5 , with and without system rotation. The minimization of the total pressure loss in the bend is achieved by means of a hybrid numerical optimization method that uses design of experiments and a metamodel for fast surrogate modeling of the design space. Optimization databases are produced by incompressible fluid unsteady RANS-(k-w)-SST calculations. Due to optimization of the divider wall profile, the total pressure loss coefficient has been reduced by 47-67 % depending on the rotation number (Ro = 0,±0.2). For the original and the optimized shapes of the bend, simulation is performed also with the eddy-resolving IDDES method validated against the velocity field and pressure measurement data for the original geometry. For optimized shapes, IDDES predicts somewhat lower pressure losses comparing to the RANS model, by 3 to 15 % depending on the rotation number.

Submucosal tunneling endoscopic technique can be useful in obtaining esophageal muscle specimens in patients with esophagealmotility disorders. Here, we describe the case of a patient with systemic sclerosis. Histological verification of the esophageal involvementin the pathological process was required for the treatment. There were no intra- and post- operational complications.
