        Reading with an Eye to Gender : An Analysis of the Illustrations in Korean Literature Textbooks

        This study focuses on the problem of gender framing in literature textbooks used in Korea. In particular, this study focuses on illustrations in literature textbooks, as critical places in which such gender framing occurs. The study analyzes 132 character illustrations that appear in Literature, the leading literature textbook used in Korean high schools. Here, illustrations are described and analyzed, and significant patterns and trends related to the politics of sex and gender are explored. Through this analysis, we observed the following trends. Literature contains too few illustrations of women and too many of men. Occupations showed men leaving home, but women returning home; illustrations tended to be of young men, whereas women were cast as mothers. Regarding external or physical characteristics, the following trends were observed: hair as litmus; the Confucian principle whereby a boy and a girl should not sit together; women’s tendencies to be reduced in posture, versus men’s tendencies to expand. Regarding internal characteristics, men were shown to be the ones doing the appreciating, while women were shown being appreciated; men tended to be void of sadness, and women full of sadness; men made judgments, women were shown to be caring and obeying.

        Further characterization of a rice AGL12 group MADS-box gene, OsMADS26.

        <P>Plant MADS-box genes can be divided into 11 groups. Genetic analysis has revealed that most of them function in flowering-time control, reproductive organ development, and vegetative growth. Here, we elucidated the role of OsMADS26, a member of the AGL12 group. Transcript levels of OsMADS26 were increased in an age-dependent manner in the shoots and roots. Transgenic plants of both rice (Oryza sativa) and Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) overexpressing this gene manifested phenotypes related to stress responses, such as chlorosis, cell death, pigment accumulation, and defective root/shoot growth. In addition, apical hook development was significantly suppressed in Arabidopsis. Plants transformed with the OsMADS26-GR (glucocorticoid receptor) fusion construct displayed those stress-related phenotypes when treated with dexamethasone. Microarray analyses using this inducible system showed that biosynthesis genes for jasmonate, ethylene, and reactive oxygen species, as well as putative downstream targets involved in the stress-related process, were up-regulated in OsMADS26-overexpressing plants. These results suggest that OsMADS26 induces multiple responses that are related to various stresses.</P>

        학교밖 청소년을 위한 독서교육의 방향성 연구 : 소년원 재원 청소년을 중심으로

        국어교육의 목표인 의미 있는 삶과 소통의 능력은 학교밖 청소년들에게도 절실한 과제다. 이 연구는 국어교육, 그 중에서도 특히 독서교육이 학교밖 청소년들의 자기교육을 촉진할 수 있는 기능과 가능성이 크다는 가설을 세우고 그것을 검증하고자 하였다. 먼저 학교밖 청소년 교정 담론의 경향성을 비판하고, 독서교육의 사각지대에 놓여있었던 소년원 청소년의 독서 감상문을 수합하였다. 그리고 질적 분석 도구 NVivo를 이용하여 독서를 통한 주체의 변화 양상을 분석하였다. 분석틀로 리쾨르의 독서 행위 이론을 참조하였으며 그 결과 4개의 상위노드(‘기존의 나’, ‘실제의 타자 경유’, ‘책이라는 타자 경유’, ‘새로운 나’)와 13개의 하위노드(‘왜곡된 관념이나 감정의 성찰’, ‘자기 행위에 대한 귀인’, ‘컴플렉스나 정체성 고백’, ‘타인에 대한 재평가’, ‘타자의 심리에 대한 공감’, ‘타자의 인식 반박’, ‘작가와의 가상적 대화’, ‘작중인물의 정서 상상’, ‘책을 통한 메세지의 구축’, ‘변화의 모색과 미래 기획’, ‘시공간의 재평가’, ‘자기 정체성의 서사 재구축’, ‘타자의 인정과 존중 요구’)가 추출되었다. 일련의 코딩 과정과 내용 분석을 통해 학교밖 청소년들이 독서를 통해 즉자를 반성하고 대자적 나를 기획하며 그 과정에서 타자에 대해 공감과 상상을 시도하는 양상과 패턴의 경향성이 뚜렷하게 떠올랐다. 이러한 분석 결과에 토대하여 독서교육은 학교밖 청소년이 텍스트세계를 유영하며 자기 자신과 현실 세계를 해석할 수 있도록 열린 경험을 제공해야 함을 제안하였다. 나아가 독서교육에 대한 다양한 청소년들의 기대와 요구에 귀 기울이고, 청소년의 개별적 독서 경험과 이를 통한 변화/성장의 관점을 견지할 필요가 있음을 확인하였다. Adolescents outside of school often find it difficult to achieve a meaningful life and communication - the goal of Korean language education. Therefore, this study attempted to establish a hypothesis that reading education has a high function and possibility to promote self-education of adolescents outside of school, and to verify the hypothesis. First, I collected the reading experience descriptions of youths in juvenile schools who were in the blind spot of reading education. And, using a qualitative analysis tool-NVivo, the subject's change through reading was analyzed. Based on Ricoeur’s theory of reading behavior an analysis was conducted, and as a result, 4 upper nodes (existing me, via the actual other, via the other as a book, and the new me) and 13 sub-nodes (reflection of distorted ideas or emotions, Attribution to one's actions, confession of complex or identity, reevaluation of others, sympathy for other's psychology, refutation of other's perceptions, virtual dialogue with the author, imagining the emotions of the work, construction of messages through books, seeking change and future planning, reevaluation of time and space, reconstruction of narrative of self-identity, demand for recognition and respect of others) were extracted. Through the coding process and content analysis, the pattern and tendency of adolescents to reflect on themselves through reading, plan a new identity, and try to empathize and imagine others in the process also emerged clearly. Based on the results of this analysis, it was suggested that reading education should provide an open experience for adolescents outside of school so that they explore the text world and interpret themselves and the real world, rather than unilaterally correcting their personality. Furthermore, it was confirmed that it was necessary to listen to the expectations and demands of various adolescents for reading education, and to maintain the viewpoint of change/growth through the individual reading experiences of the youth.

        교육실습 기간 예비교사들의 정서적 지형도 연구

        이 연구는 예비교사들이 교육실습 기간 동안 경험한 정서를 분석하여 일종의 정서 지형도를 구축하고, 분석 과정에서 도출된 문제에 기반하여 교육실습의 개선 방향을 제안하고자 하는 목적을 가진다. 이 연구는 예비교사들의 정서적 경험이 중요한 연구 대상이 될 수 있다고 보고 그들의 교육실습 경험기술지를 현상학적으로 분석하였다. 이 과정에서 질적 내용 분석 도구인 NVivo11이 사용되었다. 정서가 경험되는 주요 공간 축에 따라 학교 공간에서의 정서적 경험/교실 공간에서의 정서적 경험/사적 공간에서의 정서적 경험이 분석되었다. 학교 공간에서의 정서적 경험은 다시 두개의 하위 범주를 갖는데 ‘제3의 공간이 주는 정체성 혼란’, ‘지도교사에 대한 의존과 인정 욕구’ 등이 그것이다. 교실 공간에서의 정서적 경험은 세 개의 하위 범주를 갖는데 ‘수업 전의 긴장과 불안감’, ‘수업 중의 희노애락’(喜怒哀樂), ‘학습자에 대한 애착 형성’ 등이 그것이다. 사적 공간에서의 정서적 경험은 두 개의 하위 범주를 갖는데 ‘육체적, 정신적 피로와 소진감’, ‘자신과 교직에 대한 효능감’ 등이 그것이다. 이러한 분석 결과에 토대하여 예비교사의 교육실습 프로그램 운영 및 발전 방향을 제안하였다. 첫째, 현장 중등학교와 사범대학 사이의 공조 및 협의를 통해 예비교사들에게 보다 많은 책임과 경험이 제공되어야 한다. 이를 위해 교육실습 프로그램과 자유학기제, co-teaching 제도 등의 연계가 고려될 수 있다. 둘째, 교육실습 전담 지도교수가 지정되어 실습 중인 예비교사들에게 인지적, 정서적, 행동적 케어를 제공하고 예비교사 커뮤니티를 조직해줄 필요가 있다. 셋째, 교육실습 프로그램이 물리적으로 연장되는 동시에 예비교사들의 수업권이 확보될 필요가 있다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the emotions experienced by the pre - service teachers during the teaching practicum, to construct a kind of emotional geography, and to suggest improvement directions of the teaching practicum based on the problems derived from the analysis process. This study analyzed the empirical experience of pre-service teachers as an important study subject and analyzed their experimental ethnography phenomenologically. Emotional experience in school space/emotional experience in classroom space/emotional experience in private space were analyzed according to the main space axis where emotion is experienced. In the result of this analysis, I proposed the operation and development direction of teaching practicum of the pre-service teacher. First, more responsibility and experience should be provided to pre-service teachers through coordination and consultation between the field secondary school and college of education. Second, there is a need to assign a practicum specialist instructor who can provide cognitive, emotional, and behavioral care to pre-service teachers during the teaching practicum and to organize a community of pre-service teachers. Third, it is necessary to extend the teaching practicum and to secure the lecture rights of pre - service teachers.

        청소년문학 장르의 문학교육적 전유

        이 연구는 청소년문학을 ‘기능하는 장르’로 보고 문학교육이 그러한 청소년문학의 당대적 기능을 어떻게 전유할 수 있는지 탐구하고자 하는 목적을 가진다. 일종의 비공식적 교육의 형태로 해당 장르가 기능하고 있다면, 중등학습자의 문학능력 향상을 목적하는 문학교육에서 이러한 현상을 도외시 할 수 없다. 그렇다면 이 현실을 만들어가는 힘과 방향의 의미를 따져보고 그것을 생산적으로 전유할 필요가 있다. 따라서 청소년문학 현상을 주도하고 있는 청소년문학상 담론, 특히 청소년문학상 심사평을 질적으로 분석하여 해당 자료들이 가시적 혹은 비가시적으로 드러내는 청소년문학에 대한 기대와 장르적 자의식을 확인하고, 해당 장르의 기능이 가시화된 언어적 표지를 분석하였다. 그 결과 청소년문학의 기능을 관찰의 기능, 대변의 기능, 교육의 기능 등으로 유형화하고 문학교육적으로 각 기능을 어떻게 전유할 수 있는지 고찰하였다. 이상의 작업을 통해 문학교육은 청소년문학이 수행하는 기능을 전유하여, 학습자들이 청소년문학 창작 주체, 비평 주체, 장르 주체로 성장하도록 도울 수 있음을 확인하였다. This study aims to cognize youth literature as a “functional genre” and explore how literary education can appropriate the contemporary functions of youth literature. If the genre is functioning in the form of an informal literary education, this phenomenon cannot be neglected in public education aimed at improving the literary ability of secondary learners. If so, examining the meaning of the power and direction that makes this reality is necessary. Additionally, literary education needs to productively appropriate it. Therefore, the discourse on youth literature, which leads the youth literature phenomenon, especially the literary magazine commentaries on youth literature award, is qualitatively analyzed to confirm the expectations and genre self-consciousness of youth literature, and the linguistic signs that focus on the function of the genre are analyzed and categorized. Thus, the functions of youth literature have been categorized into observation, representation, and education functions, and how each function can be exclusively appropriated in literary education has been discussed. Through this, it is confirmed that literary education can exclusively play the functions of youth literature, allowing learners to become the creative subjects of youth literature, criticism subjects, and genre subjects.

        Integrating Path Integral Control With Backstepping Control to Regulate Stochastic System

        Path integral control integrated with backstepping control is proposed to address the practical regulation problem, wherein the system dynamics are represented as stochastic differential equations. Path integral control requires the sampling of uncontrolled trajectories to calculate the optimal control input. However, the probability of generating a low-cost trajectory from uncontrolled dynamics is low. This implies that the path integral control requires an excessive number of trajectory samples to approximate the optimal control input appropriately. Therefore, we propose an integrated method of backstepping and path integral control to provide a systematic approach for sampling stabilized trajectories that are close to the optimal one. This proposed method requires a relatively small number of samples than that of the path integral control and uses the terminal set to further reduce the computational load. In simulation studies, the proposed method is applied to a single-input single-output example and a continuous stirred-tank reactor for demonstration. The results show the advantages of integrating the backstepping control and the path integral control.

        Herpes Zoster in Breast Cancer Patients: A 15-Year Experience from a Single Tertiary Referral Center in Korea

        Background: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer and the most common cause of cancer deaths in Korean women. Although tumor-induced mediators and cancer therapy can suppress cell-mediated immunity, the concurrence of herpes zoster in breast cancer patients has not been well-recognized. Objective: This study aimed to delineate the characteristics of herpes zoster in patients with breast cancer, particularly its association with patient age and breast cancer severity, treatment, and clinical course. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of breast cancer patients at a tertiary referral center in Korea from January 2003 to June 2018, identified patients with a subsequent diagnosis of herpes zoster, and analyzed their clinical characteristics. Results: Among 8,124 patients with breast cancer, 2.04% further developed zoster during a median 31-month follow-up period. Age at the diagnosis of breast cancer was higher in the zoster group than in the no zoster group. Cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy significantly increased the risk of zoster. Time from the diagnosis of breast cancer to zoster development was significantly shorter for invasive cancers than for in-situ cancers, with higher risk in the initial 2 years from the cancer diagnosis. Conclusion: This study showed that breast cancer patients are at an increased risk of zoster, particularly in the time following cancer diagnosis. Therefore, a recent diagnosis of breast cancer should warrant clinical suspicion of zoster for patients with suggestive symptoms, and active management should be started.
