ML Approaching MIMO Detection Based on Orthogonal Projection

<P>A detection algorithm for spatially multiplexed multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems is proposed. The receiver first estimates the MIMO channel and rearranges the layers according to the measured SNRs. To determine the candidate vectors, an orthogonal projection combined with the M-algorithm is used. Without performing the exhaustive full search of the maximum likelihood (ML) method, the proposed algorithm can reach the performance which is closely akin to the ML method. The computational complexity markedly decreases: 0.66% over the ML method in terms of the number of real multiplications.</P>

<P>In this letter, we propose a computationally efficient search space for QRM-MLD that is used for spatially multiplexed multiple antenna systems. We perform a set of computer simulations to show that the proposed method achieves a performance that is near to that of the original QRM-MLD, while its computational complexity is near to that of rank-QRM-MLD.</P>
Efficient Soft-Output Generation Method for Spatially Multiplexed MIMO Systems

<P>A simple detector named QR-LRL for MIMO systems was proposed in [7] and it was shown that QR-LRL approached the hard-output ML performance. However, its soft-output performance is not capable of approaching the near ML performance. In this letter, we propose a novel detection method which can generate reliable soft-outputs while avoiding the empty vector set problem. The proposed detector efficiently uses the upper triangular structure in QR decomposition. Simulation results show that the proposed detector can approach the near soft-output ML performance as well as hard-output with feasible complexity.</P>

본 논문에서는 공간다중화 방식을 사용하는 다중 안테나 시스템의 수신부를 위한 연판정 값 발생방식을 제안한다. 공간 다중화 MIMO 시스템의 수신기술의 복잡도는 일반적으로 생성하는 후보벡터의 수에 비례하여 증가한다. 모든 송신 가능한 벡터를 후보벡터로 하는 ML 신호검출 기법은 신뢰도가 높은 연판정 값을 발생하여 우수한 성능을 달성하나 연산복잡도가 매우 높다. 반면 적은 수의 후보벡터를 발생하여 낮은 복잡도를 갖는 검출기법은 연판정 값의 신뢰도가 저하되는 단점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 적은 수의 후보벡터만 가용할 때, 연판정 값의 신뢰도를 향상시키는 방법을 제안한다. In this paper, we propose a novel soft output generation method for spatially multiplexed MIMO systems. The receiver complexity of spatially mutiplexed MIMO system is in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. The ML signal detection method considers all possible vectors as candidates, thereby achieving a high performance, however, its complexity is very high. Low complexity receiver techniques involving a small number of candidate vectors, provide soft output values of low reliability. In this paper, we propose a method to improve reliability of the soft output values obtained using a small number of candidate vectors.
