        Cardiovascular and Gastrointestinal Effects of Etoricoxib in the Treatment of Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis

        Objective. To estimate the cardiovascular (CV) and gastrointestinal (GI) risks of etoricoxib in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) compared to a placebo and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Methods. A systematic review of randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) of etoricoxib were performed. Bayesian network meta-analysis was used over a duration of 12 weeks. The incidence of CV and GI events for a duration ≥26 weeks were also tabulated and presented using descriptive statistics. Results. From this search, 10 studies were identified. Of these, 6 and 5 RCTs that measured the CV and GI events at 12 weeks were included in meta-analysis. They showed that etoricoxib did not increase the CV events compared to the placebo or NSAIDs during the 12 week period (odds ratio [OR]=0.59 compared to celecoxib, OR=0.89 with ibuprofen, OR=0.70 with placebo, and OR=2.16 with naproxen). The risk of GI events was comparable to that of most comparators, with the exception of naproxen, which had a significantly lower risk of GI events (OR=0.18) during the 12 week period. For a duration ≥26 weeks, the incidence of CV and GI events with etoricoxib increased with increasing duration. Conclusion. Etoricoxib is an alternative short-term treatment option for OA, showing comparable CV and GI complications to other NSAIDs. Nevertheless, further studies will be needed to elucidate the long-term safety of etoricoxib in the treatment of OA. (J Rheum Dis 2017;24:293-302)

        On 16 May 2014, a Marsh Grassbird (1<SUP>st</SUP> summer plumage) was observed at baenanggimi marsh (34°41"21.03"N, 125°25"32.37"E), Heuksan-myeon, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do in South Korea. This is the second record of Marsh Glassbird (L. pryeri) in Korea since it has been collected in 1962.

      • Effects of a non-synonymous <i>CBG</i> gene single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) on meat-quality traits in Berkshire pigs

        <P> Corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) is a plasma transport protein that has glucocorticoid-binding activity. In the present study, we identified CBG gene expression in several tissues of four pig breeds: Berkshire, Duroc, Landrace, and Yorkshire. Expression of CBG mRNA was detected in the liver of all four breeds, and was the highest in Berkshire pigs. We also found single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the CBG gene from Berkshire pigs, including SNP c.919G@@>@@A, which corresponds to 307G@@>@@R. We analyzed the relationships between this CBG variant and various meat-quality traits. The SNP was significantly associated with backfat thickness, post-mortem pH24h, meat color [CIE a* (redness), CIE b* (yellowness)], water-holding capacity, fat content, moisture content, protein content, cooking loss, and shear force. However, the effects differed by gender: the values were significantly associated with almost all traits in gilts, whereas only cooking loss and shear force were shown significantly in barrows. The variant G allele was associated with decreases in backfat thickness, post-mortem pH24h, CIE a*, fat content, and cooking loss, but with increases in CIE b*, water-holding capacity, moisture content, protein content, and shear force. Because the general correlation between meat-quality traits were not validated in the present study, we suggest that certain SNP might be used in the restrictive application to distinguish meat-quality traits. </P>

        연주전공생의 연주효능감이 내재적 연주동기에 미치는 영향 : 사회비교성향의 조절효과를 중심으로

        본 연구의 목적은 연주전공생들의 연주효능감이 내재적 동기에 미치는 영향에 대해 살펴보고, 사회비교성향이 두 변인 간 관계를 조절하는지 확인하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 2019년 4월부터 6월까지 두 달에 걸쳐 서울시와 경기도에 위치한 음악대학에 재학 중인 연주 전공생 300명을 대상으로 연주효능감, 사회비교성향, 내재적 동기를 측정하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 연주효능감이 높은 경우 내재적 동기에 긍정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 연주효능감이 높은 남학생의 경우 사회비교성향의 수준과 상관없이 내재적 동기를 많이 갖는 것으로 확인되었으나, 연주효능감이 낮은 남학생의 경우 사회비교성향이 높을수록 내재적 동기를 많이 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 연주효능감이 높은 여학생들은 사회비교성향의 수준이 높을수록 내재적 동기를 많이 갖는 것으로 확인되었고, 연주효능감이 낮은 여학생의 경우 사회비교성향 수준이 낮아질수록 내재적 동기를 많이 갖는 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통해 연주효능감과 내재적 동기 사이에서 사회비교성향의 역할이 성별에 따라 유의한 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. This study examined the effect of music performance efficacy on music intrinsic motivation, and tested whether the relationship was moderated by different social comparison orientation of university students majoring in music-performance. After the regression analysis on the responses from 300 university students(majoring in Korean/Western vocal music and instrumental music) from April to June 2019, the results indicate that students who had high music performance efficacy had more high music intrinsic motivation. Also, male who had high music performance efficacy had high music intrinsic motivation regardless of their social comparison orientation level. On the other hand the more male who had low music performance efficacy compared with others, the higher they had music intrinsic motivation. Meanwhile, whaeras the more female who had high music performance efficacy compared with others, the higher they had music intrinsic motivation, the less female who had low music performance efficacy compared with others, the higher they had music intrinsic motivation. This illustrates how social comparison orientation on music performance the students had can affect the relation between students’ music performance efficacy and music intrinsic motivation according to their gender. Therefore, This result implies that educators should pay attention to students’gender, music performance efficacy and the level of social comparison orientation on performance to promote intrinsic motivation in music education.

      • 학생이 지각하는 교사-학생관계 및 부모의 학습관여가 자기효능감을 매개로 음악흥미에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 우리나라 중학생의 음악흥미에 영향을 미치는 환경 심리요인(음악교사-학생관계, 부모의 음악학습관여)과 개인 심리요인(음악적 자기효능감)의 영향관계를 구조방정식모형을 통하여 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 서울 A 중학교와 B 중학교의 1, 2학년 학생 400명을 대상으로 교사-학생관계, 부모의 학습관여, 자기효능감, 음악흥미의 정도를 측정하여 관계를 분석하였다. 연구결과, 학생이 느끼는 교사-학생관계가 긍정적일수록 학생의 음악흥미 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 주었고, 이 과정에서 자기효능감이 매개효과로 작용하여 음악흥미 향상에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 한편, 학생이 느끼는 부모의 학습관여는 음악흥미 향상에 직접적으로는 전혀 상관이 없었지만, 학생의 자기효능감을 매개로 하여 음악흥미에 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 그리고 학생의 자기효능감 수준이 높을수록 음악흥미 향상에 직접적으로 긍정적인 영향을 주었다. 본 연구결과를 통해 부모보다 교사와의 상호작용이 학생의 음악흥미 향상에 더 큰 영향을 미친다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 환경 심리요인이 음악흥미에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 매개요인으로 자기효능감의 영향력이 상당히 크다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 음악흥미 향상을 위해 학생의 자기효능감을 높이는 환경을 조성하고 교사와 학생 간의 긍정적인 관계를 형성하기 위한 방안이 제시되어야 함을 시사한다. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of students’ school students perceived teacher-student relationship and parental learning involvement on music interest through musical self-efficacy. To achieve this purpose, this study used structural equation modeling which is based on Interest theory and some empirical studies on music interest. The population of this study was the 400 students attending two middle schools. A survey questionnaire was conducted to measure variables of this study. It was consisted of teacher-student relationship, parental learning involvement, self efficacy and musical interest scale. The results suggested that Teacher-student relationship had direct effects and indirect effects on music interest, which are mediated by self efficacy. However, Parental learning involvement had no direct effects but indirect effects on music interest, which are mediated by self efficacy. Lastly, Self efficacy had direct effects on music interest. The results propose that teacher influences had more stronger than parental influence on music interest. In addition, Musical self-efficacy is an important psychological factor in predicting music interest.

        MSK1 regulates RANKL-induced NFATc1 expression through CREB and c-Fos

        Osteoclasts originated from hematopoietic stem cells are multi-nucleated cells that can resorb the bone matrix. Receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B (RANK)/RANK ligand (RANKL) signaling pathway is crucial for the differentiation and activation of osteoclasts. In this study, we investigated for the first time whether or not RANKL induced mitogen- and stress-activated kinase 1 (MSK1) phosphorylation at Ser 376. Activation of MSK1 was detected as soon as 5 min after RANKL stimulation and sparsely detected at 30 min after stimulation. RANKL-induced MSK1 phosphorylation occurred in a dose-dependent manner. MSK1 is known as a downstream signaling molecule of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA). Treatment with the PKA inhibitor H89 significantly suppressed c-Fos and nuclear factor of activated T-cells, cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1) induction upon RANKL stimulation. In addition, cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) phosphorylation was extremely inhibited by H89 treatment. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) have been investigated for induction of MSK1 phosphorylation. Specific signaling pathway inhibitors for p38 and extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs) significantly blocked RANKL-induced MSK1 activation. Finally, as a downstream effector of the p38-MSK1 pathway, c-Fos transcriptional activity was determined. RANKL-mediated elevation of c-Fos transcriptional activity was significantly suppressed by p38 inhibitor. Moreover, a dominant negative form of CREB suppressed activation of NFATc1. In conclusion, RANKL-stimulated MSK1 phosphorylation could play a role in induction of NFATc1 through CREB and c-Fos activation as a downstream molecule of p38, ERK MAPKs, and PKA. Our results support basic information for the development of osteoclast specific inhibitors.

        Genomic Analysis of the Extremely Halophilic Archaeon Halobacterium noricense CBA1132 Isolated from Solar Salt That Is an Essential Material for Fermented Foods

        The extremely halophilic archaeon Halobacterium noricense is a member of the genus Halobacterium. Strain CBA1132 (= KCCM 43183, JCM 31150) was isolated from solar salt. The genome of strain CBA1132 assembled with 4 contigs, including three rRNA genes, 44 tRNA genes, and 3,208 open reading frames. Strain CBA1132 had nine putative CRISPRs and the genome contained genes encoding metal resistance determinants: copper-translocating P-type ATPase (CtpA), arsenical pump-driving ATPase (ArsA), arsenate reductase (ArsC), and arsenical resistance operon repressor (ArsR). Strain CBA1132 was related to Halobacterium noricense, with 99.2% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. Based on the comparative genomic analysis, strain CBA1132 has distinctly evolved; moreover, essential genes related to nitrogen metabolism were only detected in the genome of strain CBA1132 among the reported genomes in the genus Halobacterium. This genome sequence of Halobacterium noricense CBA1132 may be of use in future molecular biological studies.

        Growth Pattern of the Neo-Aorta after Arterial Switch Operation during Childhood

        Background and Objectives: Neo-aortic root dilatation (ARD) and annular dilatation (AAD) tend to develop after arterial switch operation (ASO). However, the trend of neo-aortic growth has not been well established. This paper aims to identify this trend, its associated factors, and predictors of neo-aortic dilatation after ASO. Methods: We analyzed the growth trend of the neo-aortic root, annulus, and sinotubular junction (STJ) z-scores using random coefficients model and the risk factors affecting neo-aortic dilatation in 163 patients who underwent ASO from 2006 to 2015. Results: Among 163 patients, 41 had a ventricular septal defect, and 11 had Taussig-Bing (TB) anomaly. The median follow-up duration was 6.61 years. The increased in the neo-aortic root z-score was different between the trapdoor and non-trapdoor coronary artery transfer techniques (0.149/year, p<0.001 vs. 0.311/year, p<0.001). Moreover, the neo-aortic annulus and STJ z-score significantly increased over time after ASO (0.067/year, p<0.001; 0.309/year, p<0.001). Pulmonary artery banding (PAB) was rather a negative affecting factor. The probabilities of freedom from ARD, AAD, and neo-aortic STJ dilatation at 10 years after ASO were 33.4%, 53.9%, and 65.4%. Neo- aortic regurgitation within 1 year was the predictor of ARD, AAD, and neo-aortic STJ dilatation. TB anomaly, PAB, and native pulmonary sinus z-score were other predictors for ARD. Conclusion: The growth of neo-aortic root, annulus, and STJ after ASO was greater than somatic growth during childhood. The coronary artery transfer technique affected the growth pattern of the neo-aortic root.
