용담댐 예정지역의 어류상을 조사하기 위해 1991년 10월부터 3차에 걸쳐 9개 지점을 대상으로 실시하였다. 1차 조사에서는 총 4과 16종이 채집되었고, 2차 조사에서는 총 6과 21종이 채집되었으며, 3차 조사에서는 3과 16종이 채집됨으로서 1, 2, 3차 조사를 통해 확인된 총 서식 어종은 6과 22종이었다. 이들 중 보편종은 갈겨니 Zacco temmincki, 피라미 Z. platypus, 쉬리 Coreoleucicus splendidus, 돌마자 Microphysogobio yaluensis, 돌고기 Pungtungia herzi, 칼납자루 Acheiloganathus koreanus 등으로 전형적인 상류성 어류가 대부분이었으며, 이들 가운데 한국 특산어종은 줄납자루 Acheilognathus yamatsutae, 감돌고기 Pseudopungtungia nigra, 쉬리 C. splendidus 등 총 12종으로 자연 분포 어류 중 27.5%를 차지하였다. 특히 환경의 변화에 민감하여 앞으로 그 수가 감소될 것으로 예상되어 보호되어야 할 종은 감돌고기 P. nigra, 꾸구리 Gobiobotia macrocephalus, 돌상어 G. brevibarba, 참종개 Cobitis koreensis, 꺽지 Coreopercaherzi, 쉬리 C. splendidus, 자가사리 Liobagrus mediadiposalis, 누동자개 Pseudobagrus sp. 등으로 나타났다. 용담댐 예정지 동일 지점을 대상으로 군집분석한 결과 다양도 지수는 St.3지점에서 1, 2, 3차 각각 1.97,1.89,1.92로 비교적 유사한 값을 나타내었으며, 시기별로 현저한 차이를 보이는 지점은 St.4와 St.8지점으로 그 범위는 0.00에서 1.35로 산정되었다. 또한 풍부도 지수는 St.3지점에서 1, 2, 3차 각각 2.44, 2.32, 2.57의 범위로 비교적 높게 산정되었으며, St.6과 St.8지점은 조사 시기별로 현저한 차이를 보였고, St.3이 군집이 비교적 안정되어 있는 장소로 판단되었다.

용담댐의 생태계를 조사하기 위한 일환으로 1991년 11월11일 부터 11월12일의 기간에 용담댐 예정지역의 9개 지소에서 담수어류상을 조사하였다. 총 16종이 채집되었으며 보편종은 갈겨니 Zaccotemmincki, 피라미 Z. platypus, 돌마자 Mirophyso-gobio yaluensis, 칼납자루 Acheilongathus limbata. 쉬리 Coreoleuciscus splendidus, 버들치 Moroco oxycephalus이고 이중 한국특산종은 7종이었다. 1991년 이전의 목록에서는 총 39종이 채집되었으며 이중 보편종은 피라미 Z. platypus, 쉬리 C. splendidus, 돌마자 M. yaluensis, 돌고기 Pungungiaherzi, 갈겨니 Z. temmincki 등의 순이며, 이중 한국특산종은 14종으로 남한아구역특산종의 35%를 차지하였다. 경제성어종으로는 붕어 Carassius auratus, 누치 Hemibarbus labeo, 참마자 H. longirostris, 모래무지 Pseudogobio esocinus, 갈겨니 Z. temmincki, 끄리 Obsarlichthys bidens, 동자개 Pseudobagrus fulvidraco, 대동갱이 Leiocassis usseriensis, 눈동자개 Pseudobagrus Koreanus, 메기 Sirurus asotus, 쏘가리 Siniperca scherzeri, 꺽지 Coreoperca herzi, 가물치 Channa argus 등을 들수 있으며 특기할만한 어종으로는 쉬리 C. splendidus, 감돌고기 G. brevibarba, 갈겨니 Z. temmincki, 눈동자개 P. koreanus, 자가사리 Libagrus mediadiposalis, 꺽지 C. herzi등으로 이들 종은 댐건설후 감소가 예상되어 보호되어야 할 종들로 판단되었다.
PCR을 이용한 Rat 기관지 세척액에서의 Pneumocystis carinii DNA의 검출 : 기초실험 A pilot study

Background: Pneumocystis carinii (PC) is a opportunistic pathogen causing serious pneumonia (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia : PCP) in immunosuppressed patients including AIDS. Laboratory diagnosis of PCP is dependent on microscopic demonstration of the PC by using cytochemical staining or by immunocytochemical staining with monoclonal antibodies. However, these staining methods are not highly sensitive. The development of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has made it possible to detect very small numbers of pathogens in clinical specimens. To establish the usefulness of PCR for detection of PC DNA, We performed PCR as a pilot study. Methods: PCP was induced on Spraque-Dawley rats with prednisolone 5mg IM twice a week. Bronchial lavages, impression smears, and permanent sections were performed from the 3rd week to 7th week of cortisonized rats. PC DNA was extracted with bead beater / 10% CTAB method. Results: Impression smears showed PC cyst after the 4th week (100%, 28/28 rats), and permanent sections showed 27/28 rats. Control rats showed some PC cysts (2/7). PCR result was positive only one case among the 6th week rats (1/7), But positive 6 cases at the 7th week rats, (6/7). Among control rats. 2 cases were positive (2/7). ??This data is a pilot study for the PC DNA detection using a PCR. PCP were successfully cortisonized rats. If adequate bronchial washing technique will be used, PCR can be a sensitive for PC DNA detection.

N/A Alcoholic liver cirrhosis is common in western society, but it is very rare in Korean. Its clinical features are similar to other types of liver cirrhosis. But it is caused by drinking alcohol. Alcoholic hepatitis usually precedes the alcoholic liver cirrhosis. We have seen 42year-old male patient who had drunk much for 24 years. His chief complaint was right upper abdominal discomfort. Percutaneous liver biopsy was performed, which showed typical picture of alcoholic liver cirrhosis. So we present this case with a review of literature.

<B>Abstract</B><P>Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA4) has been known to be a strong tolerance-inducing inhibitory receptor on T-cell surface. Systemic blocking of CTLA4 function with blocking antibodies has been regarded as an attractive strategy to enhance antitumor immunity. However, this strategy accompanies systemic autoimmune side effects that are sometimes problematic. Therefore, we developed a novel CTLA4 mutant that could be expressed in tumor antigen-specific T cells to enhance antitumor effect without systemic autoimmunity. This mutant, named CTLA4-CD28 chimera, consists of extracellular and transmembrane domains of CTLA4, linked with cytoplasmic CD28 domain. Overexpression of CTLA4-CD28 chimera in T cells delivered stimulatory signals rather than inhibitory signals of CTLA4 and significantly enhanced T-cell reactivity. Although this effect was observed in both CD4 and CD8 T cells, the effect on CD4 T cells was predominant. CTLA4-CD28 chimera gene modification of CD4 T cells significantly enhanced antitumor effect of unmodified CD8 T cells. Nonetheless, the gene modification of CD8 T cells along with CD4 T cells further maximized antitumor effect of T cells in 2 different murine tumor models. Thus, CTLA4-CD28 chimera gene modification of both tumor antigen-specific CD4 and CD8 T cells would be an ideal way of modulating CTLA4 function to enhance tumor-specific T-cell reactivity.</P>

This study focuses on the inspect of effective net area design code, according to limited state design criteria of steel structures, recently established in Korea, by an experiment on the joint of angle tension members on the ground. reduction factor. The methods of this study were to compare other study results on effective net area rupture mode and ultimate capacity, and to evaluate the propriety of the criteria design code. The result is that code in force limited state design criteria of steel structures and AISC-LRFD joint of angle tension members predicted load and experiment depend on ultimate capacity difference. Therefore, it is thought that there is need for supplemental test and study to effective net area of tension joint focused on bolted connection of angle.

Pancreatic ascites has the characteristics of highly proteinaceous, amylase-rich intraperitoneal fluid. It usually occurs as a result of rupture of a pseudocyst or disruption of main pancreatic duct during the course of acute or chronic pancreatitis. It can be managed by traditional conservative methods including fasting, total parenteral nutrition and ascites tapping or surgical interventions. Recently, several cases of treating pancreatic ascites with somatostatin analogue (octreotide) successfully have been reported. We experienced a patient with chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic ascites, who was successfully treated by somatostatin analogue (octreotide).

<P>Mechanically driven light emission from particles embedded in elastomer films has recently attracted interest as a strong candidate for next-generation light sources on display devices because it is nondestructive, reproducible, real-time, environmentally friendly, and reliable. The origin of mechanoluminescence (ML) obtained from particles embedded in elastomer films have been proposed as the trapping of drifting charge carriers in the presence of a piezoelectric field. However, in this study, we propose a new origin of ML through the study of the microstructure of a Cu-doped ZnS particles embedded in an elastomer composite film with high brightness using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to clearly demonstrate the origin of ML with respect to the microstructure of ML composite films. The TEM characterization of the ML composite film demonstrated that the Cu-doped ZnS particles were fully encapsulated by a 500 nm thick Al layer, which acts as an electron source for ML emission. Furthermore, we fabricated a flexible electro-mechanoluminescence (EML) device using a Cu-doped ZnS particles embedded in a flexible elastomer composite film. Our research results on a new emission mechanism for ML and its application in flexible light generating elastomer films represent an important step toward environmentally benign and ecofriendly flexible electro-mechanoluminescent lighting devices.</P>
