      • Rapid fecal cytokeratin-19 test and fecal occult blood test in screening for gastrointestinal diseases.

        <P>To evaluate the screening power of the fecal cytokeratin-19 test (CK-19) and the fecal occult blood test (FOBT), we performed rapid fecal CK-19 and FOBT tests on 515 stool samples from patients with various GI diseases and 814 stool samples from control patients. The rapid fecal CK-19 test (developed by DiNonA Research Institute, Seoul, Korea) is based on gold immunochromatography and has a sensitivity of 1 ng/ml. The positive rate of the FOBT was 2.1% in controls, 14.0% in GI cancer patients, 3.5% in GI inflammation patients, 11.7% in bone marrow transplant (BMT) patients, and 6.0% in childhood diarrhea patients. Except for the GI inflammation patients, the patients' positive rates for FOBT were all higher than the controls (p <0.05). The positive rate of the fecal CK-19 test was 8.2% in controls, 42.1% in GI cancer patients, 66.0% in GI inflammation patients, 84.8% in BMT patients, and 19.9% in childhood diarrhea patients. In all of the patient groups, positive rates for the CK-19 test were higher than in the controls (p <0.05). The fecal CK-19 test was more frequently positive (42.1%) in GI cancer patients than the FOBT; if both tests were used, the sensitivity was 49.1%. The fecal CK-19 test (but not the FOBT) gave a higher positive rate in GI inflammation patients than the controls, suggesting that the CK-19 test could serve as a screening test for GI inflammation. The highest positive rate of the fecal CK-19 test was found in the BMT group, indicating that significant GI epithelial desquamation had occurred. Although the positive rate of the fecal CK-19 test in childhood diarrhea patients was higher than in the controls, it was much lower than in adults with GI inflammatory disease. Evidently, children with GI inflammation do not desquamate as much intestinal epithelium as adult patients with GI inflammation. This study shows that the rapid fecal GK-19 test, used in conjunction with the FOBT, may be a valuable screening technique for GI diseases and can assist physicians in the differential diagnosis of GI diseases.</P>

        정간보에 의거한 고금 탄주법 연구

        우리나라에서 고금(古琴)에 대한 탄주법이 기록으로 전하는 것은 조선말기 윤용구가 남긴 칠현금보(七絃琴譜)와 휘금가곡보(徽琴歌曲譜)에 소개된 내용이 마지막이었다. 이후 전승되지 않고 있던 탄주법은 1983년을 기점으로 그 관심이 살아나기 시작하였다. 특히 2000년대 중반에 들어서면서 고금의 실연(實演)을 통한 연주회도 꾸준히 개최되고 있어 고금에 대한 관심과 이해도가 높아지고 있다. 그러나 고금의 탄주법에 대한 구체적인 내용은 아직 잘 알려져 있지 않고 고악보에 남겨진 탄주법대로 했을 때의 악보내용, 즉 고악보에 대한 해독은 아직 소개되어지지 않았다. 이를 알아보기 위하여 본고에서는 고악보에 나오는 탄주법대로 영산회상의 본영산과 우조 초수대엽을 해독하고 그 결과와 문제점, 그리고 정간보를 새롭게 활용한 악보를 제시하여 고금 지도법을 제시하고 추후 연구를 위한 방안을 기술하였다. Yun, young-ku, lived during the late of Yi dynasty in Korea, was the last musician who introduced guquin touch in Chilhyunkeumpo and Whikeum Gagokpo (old guquin music books) in Korea. Since then no information was delivered in terms of guquin touch. It was 1983 that the interest about the guquin touch had been arised. Especially, actual guquin solo performances have been held from 2007. However, no specific information on the guquin touch has been suggested so far including the way of touch(i.e., the interpretation of the old guquin music books). In order to examine this, the author interpreted the original music code and retranslated it into supplemented chongganpo centering on the Sangyoungsan and Ujo Chosudaiyup. The results and disputable issues including the teaching method in guquin were discussed for the future research.

        A Incremental second-order sigma-delta ADC is presented. A method using a combination of a 1.5-bit Quantizer technique and DWE configuration enabled wide dynamic range operation. also A three-level Quantizer with simple dynamic element matching improve linearity. The prototype IC implemented in a 0.13㎛ CMOS process achieves 125dB SNDR in a 60Hz signal bandwidth, while consuming 192uW from a 1.2V supply. The prototype operates from 1.2V supply with minimal performance degradation.

        Effect of Lifetime Cognitive Reserve on Functional Connectivity in the Default Mode Network at the Predementia Stage

        Objective: Cognitive reserve (CR) protects against cognitive decline by utilizing functional connectivity (FC) in the brain, such as the default mode network (DMN). We studied whether CR in individuals with predementia would correlate with better cognition and increased DMN FC in the resting brain. Methods: Fifty-four participants with subjective cognitive decline or mild cognitive impairment completed the Cognitive Reserve Index (CRI) questionnaire, and underwent a comprehensive neuropsychological test battery and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Correlation and regression analyses for clinical variables and seed-to-voxel analyses of CR-related FC in the DMN were conducted. Results: CRI total (β=0.42, p=0.001), education (β=0.39, p=0.001), and leisure time (β=0.33, p=0.009) predicted the Mini- Mental State Examination. The CRI education predicted verbal memory recall (β=0.32, p=0.017), confrontational naming (β=0.57, p<0.001), and phonemic fluency (β=0.43, p=0.004). In the DMN in the resting brain, the CRI total correlated with increased FC, based on the posterior cingulate to both lateral parietal cortices. Conclusion: In individuals with predementia, comprehensive CR correlated with an enhanced network in the DMN in the resting state. These results may support the neural correlate of CR during the initial stage of cognitive decline.

        Design, Analysis and Evaluation of A New Energy Conserving MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

        Low power listening (LPL) MAC protocols based on duty-cycling mechanism have been studied extensively to achieve ultra low energy consumption in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Especially, recent ACK-based LPL schemes such as X-MAC employ strobe preambles and an early ACK, and show fair performances in communications and energy efficiencies. However, the state-of-the-art ACK-based LPL scheme still suffers from collision problems due to the protocol incompleteness. These collision effects are not trivial and make WSNs unstable, aggravate energy consumptions. In this paper, we propose two novel schemes; (i) τ-duration CCA to mitigate the collision problem in ACK-based LPL MAC protocols. (ii) Short Preamble Counter (SPC) to conserve more energy by reducing unnecessary overhearing. We demonstrate the performance improvement of our scheme via a mathematical analysis and real-time experiments. Both analysis and experimental results confirm that our proposed scheme saves energy by up to 36% compared to the naive ACK-based LPL MAC protocol thanks to τ-duration CCA and SPC.

        Ultrasonic Measurement of Interfacial Layer Thickness of Sub-Quarter-Wavelength

        This paper describes a new technique for thickness measurement of a very thin layer less than one-quarter of the wavelength of ultrasonic wave used in the ultrasonic pulse-echo measurements. The technique determines the thickness of a thin layer in a layered medium from constructive interference of multiple reflection waves. The interference characteristics are derived and investigated in theoretical and experimental approaches. Modified total reflection wave g(t) defined as difference between total and first reflection waves increases in amplitude as the interfacial layer thickness decreases down to zero. A layer thickness less than one-tenth of the ultrasonic wavelength is measured using the maximum amplitude of g(t) with a good accuracy and sensitivity. The method also requires no inversion process to extract the thickness information from the waveforms of reflected waves, so that it makes possible to have the on-line thickness measurement of a thin layer such as a lubricating oil film in thrust bearings and journal bearings during manufacturing process.

        ZigBee 이웃노드 협력 기반의 신뢰성있는 Wi-Fi AP 발견 방법

        최근 스마트폰 및 무선 통신 가능한 소형 모바일 장치들에 다수의 무선 인터페이스(Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Celluar, ZigBee) 장착이 일반화 되고 있으며, 이 환경에서 Wi-Fi 인터페이스를 통한 무선 인터넷 접속이 큰 관심사가 되고 있다. 특히 모바일 환경에서 무선 인터넷 접속을 제공하기 위하여 소형 모바일 장치가 Wi-Fi 인터페이스를 항상 켜놓는 것은 매우 큰 에너지 낭비를 초래하므로 ZigBee와 같은 저전력 인터페이스를 활용하여 필요시 Wi-Fi AP 발견을 돕는 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 하지만, Wi-FiAP를 ZigBee 인터페이스가 직접 감지하고 패턴을 분석하는 방법들의 경우 Wi-Fi와 ZigBee 인터페이스의 수신 감도의 차이로 인하여 ZigBee 인터페이스로 Wi-Fi AP를 발견하지 못하는 회색지대(Grey Zone)가 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 분석 및 실험 결과를 바탕으로 회색 지대를 정의하고 이로 인한 발견 효율성 저하를 복구하기 위한 ZigBee 이웃노드 협력 기반 신뢰성 있는 Wi-Fi AP 발견 시스템인 NAZ를 제안한다. NAZ의 단일 홉 협력 통신을 통해서 회색 지대에 존재하는 노드들 중 최대 90%까지 Wi-FiAP를 추가적으로 발견할 수 있는 것을 알 수 있다. Internet access over Wi-Fi networks has been dramatically increasing in recent years. The limited coverage of Wi-Fi networks results in challenging problem of discovering new Wi-Fi access points(APs). In particular, an active scanning method of a Wi-Fi interface severely wastes the precious energy of mobile devices. The use of a low power ZigBee interface is an attractive solution to detect Wi-Fi APs in terms of energy efficiency. However, it still suffers from considerable false detection in the grey zone. In this paper, we characterize the grey zone that degrade the detection accuracy when mobile devices employ ZigBee interface to search Wi-Fi APs. In addition, we propose NAZ, that uses a cooperative communication mechanism among ZigBee interfaces to increase the detection rate of Wi-Fi APs. The results show that NAZ recovers the grey zone by up to 90%.
