Growth and TEM Characterization of GaN Microcrystals Using a Ni Catalyst

High-quality GaN microcrystals were grown by direct reaction of gallium and ammonia using a Nimesh catalyst. The catalytic activity markably increased the growth yield of the GaN microcrystals. The average grain size of the GaN microcrystals synthesized in the presence of the Ni catalyst was larger than of the microcrystals synthesized that in the absence of the catalyst. It was thought that the Ni-mesh catalyst accelerated the decomposition of NH3 gas into chemically active nitrogen atom while it reduced the activation energy for the reaction of gallium with NH3. The characterization of the catalytically grown GaN microcrystals using transmission electron microscopy and X-ray and/or electron diraction patterns showed that the hexagonally shaped GaN rods with their c-axis along the length of the single crystal were dislocation free. The growth mechanism of GaN micro-crystals is discussed based on the experimental observation.
자연과학편 : 엘리트 스컬 종목 조정선수의 500 m 구간별 운동학적 분석

이 연구는 우수 조정 indoor rower 기구를 통한 구간별 동작 비교에 대한 연구이다. 본 연구에서 대상자는 국가대표 스컬종목 선수 4명(여자: 2명, 남자: 2명)이고 키는 180±7.11 cm, 몸무게 78±11.10 kg, 경력 6.75±1,70 yrs, 경기기록 7분 24.99±26.96초이다. 조정 동작을 촬영하기 위해서 Qulisys 사의 Opus3인 적외선 카메라 8대를 사용하였다. 연구결과로 소요시간은 모든 변인에서 2000 m가 가장 짧게 나타났다(p<.05). 관절 가동범위에서는 하지관절인 무릎관절, 엉덩관절에서는 start구간이 다른 구간보다 작은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 상체관절인 주관절은 start구간이 500 m구간보다 크고 견관절은 500 m와 1000 m구간 보다 크게 나타났다(p<.05). 발목관절각도의 좌우 비대칭지수는 start구간이 1500 m와 2000 m구간에 비해 크게 나타났다(p<.05). 발목관절의 최대 각속도는 start구간이 500 m구간보다 작게 나타났으며, 2000 m구간이 start, 500 m, 1000 m구간보다 크게 나타났다(p<.05). 그리고 주관절 최대각속도는 start구간이 2000 m구간보다 작게 나타났다(p<.05). 이상 살펴본 바와 같이 배를 추진시키기 위해 관절의 가동범위는 start구간에서 하지관절 보다는 상지관절의 가동범위를 증가시켜다. 그리고 거리가 증가할수록 좌우 비대칭적으로 노를 젖기 때문에 거리적인 손실로 경기력에 영향을 줄 것으로 판단된다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in rowing kinematics between every 500 meter using an single scull machine. Four national team sculling rowers(height: 180±7.11 cm, body mass: 78±11.10 kg, career: 6.75±1.70 yrs, personal record: 7min. 24.99±26.96 sec) participated in the test. The findings indicated that the fastest time was found at the finish line(p<.05). The range of motion (ROM) of knee and hip joint appeared to be smaller at the start line compared to other sections while ROM of elbow joint appeared to be greater at the start line compared to 500 meter section (p<.05). In addition, ROM of shoulder joint appeared to be greater at the start line compared to 500 meter and 1000 meter sections (p<.05). Regarding the analysis of asymmetry, greater asymmetric ROM in ankle joint was shown at the start line compared to 1500 m section and finish line (p<.05). The maximum angular velocity of ankle joint appeared to be smaller at the start line compared to 500 meter section while they were greater at the finish line compared to the start line, 500 meter, and 1000 meter sections (p<.05). The maximum angular velocity of elbow joint appeared to be smaller at the start line compared to the finish line (p<.05). Based on the findings, it was concluded that the rowers utilized more upper body compared to the lower body in order to accelerate the boat during first and 500 meter Furthermore, more asymmetric motion of rowers was shown as the distance was increased which may be caused by an increased level of fatigue.
High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic Analysis of Chrysin Derivatives on A Nova-Pak? C18 Column

A high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed for the separation and quantification of chrysin and synthetic chrysin derivatives (12 chrysin alkyl and 7 chrysin acyl derivatives). The chromatography was performed using a Nova-Pak C18 column. A RPHPLC was performed by using a binary mixture (MeOH-10 mM H3PO4) as a mobile phase, and the column temperature was maintained at room temperature. A flow rate was 1.0 ml/min, and the effluent was monitored at a wavelenth of 280 nm. The retention times for chrysin acyl and alkyl derivatives were within 10 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively. The absolute recovery of samples were all over 96%. The detection limits were 0.1~18 ng at S/N = 3 ratio.

The purpose of this study lies in measuring psychological skills used when golf players are playing golf games or taking exercise, and knowing differences of their skills according to their skill-level and golf career. Sample groups were randomly made as this study's subjects; 67 male pro golfers who participated in 2003 Tailor Made-Adidas Cup-Chungcheong Open golf Championship, 66 semi-pro golfers who participated in 2003 KTF Tour 6th golf Championship, and 69 pro-applicants who participated in 2003 Semi-Pro Test. Golf players' psychological skills were measured with use of Woo Chan Myung(2003)'s 'Golf Players' Psychological Skill Test'. t-test, Pearson Correlation Analysis, one-way ANOVA were carried out on collected copies, Schaffe test was carried out as a post-test. Results obtained are as follows;Differences of psychological skills according to skill levelsAmong the groups of pro golfers, semi-pro golfers, and pro-applicants, the group of pro-applicants showed statistically significant differences in anxiety factor, but the group of semi-pro golfers and the group of pro golfers did not2. Differences of psychological skills according to golf careerThe longer the length of players' golf career was, the more statistically significant differences were shown in anxiety factor and mind-control factor. The group of golfers whose golf career is below 10 years and the group of golfers whose golf career is over 10 years showed statistically significant differences only in anxiety factor.
PEP-1-p18 prevents neuronal cell death by inhibiting oxidative stress and Bax expression

P18, a member of the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, is a tumor suppressor protein and plays a key cell survival role in a variety of human cancers. Under pathophysiological conditions, the INK4 group proteins participate in novel biological functions associated with neuronal diseases and oxidative stress. Parkinson`s disease (PD) is characterized by loss of dopaminergic neurons, and oxidative stress is important in its pathogenesis. Therefore, we examined the effects of PEP-1-p18 on oxidative stress-induced SH-SY5Y cells and in a PD mouse model. The transduced PEP-1-p18 markedly inhibited 1-methyl-4-phenyl pyridinium-induced SH-SY5Y cell death by inhibiting Bax expression levels and DNA fragmentation. Additionally, PEP-1-p18 prevented dopaminergic neuronal cell death in the substantia nigra of a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6,-tetrahydropyridine-induced PD mouse model. These results indicate that PEP-1-p18 may be a useful therapeutic agent against various diseases and is a potential tool for treating PD. [BMB Reports 2012; 45(9): 532-537]

This study is conducted with the intent of proposing a more supportive educational environment for handicapped students and presenting alternatives to the current school system where rules are implemented for non-handicapped students only. The e-learning system is specifically designed for all physically handicapped students. Its web-based multimedia system comprises a video conference and online voice-to-text system. It is speculated that the U-Learning environment designed to support both handicapped and non-handicapped students in collaboration with multimedia systems further enhances educational performance. This study identifies the infrastructure required to implement the U-Learning system including educational materials, contents and communication facilities followed by the description of E-learning For All Student System (EFASS) upon its completion, as well as the analytical results of this system.
