The hot deformation behavior of advanced reduced-activation alloy (ARAA) was investigated using hot torsion tests. Thefl ow stress decreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The fl ow behavior demonstratedthe typical dynamic recrystallization (DRX). Based on the constitutive analysis of peak stress, the activation energy for hotdeformation was found to be 330.3 kJ mol −1 . Peak stress was analyzed as a function of the Zener–Hollomon parameter, andcalculated and experimental values were in good agreement. A DRX kinetic model for ARAA was derived with deformationconditions based on the Avrami-type model. It was confi rmed that the volume fraction of dynamically recrystallized grainsincreased as deformation temperature increased and as strain rate decreased. The necklace structure and grain boundarybulging were observed in the deformed microstructure of ARAA. The suggested DRX mechanism for ARAA during hotworking is discontinuous DRX.
Topical tacrolimus treatment for hypopigmented lichen striatus

Background: About half of lichen striatus (LS) leave behind residual hypopigmentation especially in dark-skinned individuals. However, treatment of hypopigmented LS has not been elucidated yet. Objectives: To investigate the clinicopathological feature of hypopigmented LS and identify the efficacy of topical tacrolimus in treating hypopigmented LS. Methods: Sixty-six patients with hypopigmented LS who visited Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) from 2007 to 2017 were enrolled. Skin biopsy was performed in 27 patients. Twenty-eight patients were instructed to apply 0.1% topical tacrolimus ointment twice a day. Results: Mean age at initial visit was 5.6 ± 4.8 years old (range, 4 months old to 30 years old). Fine surface scales were observed in 87.9% (58/66) and tiny papules were accompanied in 51.5% (34/66). Histopathologically, all specimens showed above moderate inflammatory cells infiltration: perivascular infiltration (27/27, 100%), lichenoid infiltration (21/27, 77.8%), appendageal involvement (17/27, 63.0%). After treatment by topical tacrolimus, 13 patients showed complete response (mean 4.8 (2-16) months), 10 patients showed partial response (mean 4.7 (1-14) months) and 5 patients showed minimal response (mean 16.8 (1-48) months). Conclusion: Topical tacrolimus might be effective in the treatment of hypopigmented LS supported by histopathologically residual above moderate inflammatory cells infiltration.

Background: Most BCCs arise on cutaneous surfaces and their clinico-pathological features, and treatment outcome are well-known. However to date, only a few studies of BCCs on the vermilion lip (BCC-VL) have been done. Objectives: To investigate clinico-pathological features of BCC-VL Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 13 cases of BCC-VL diagnosed at Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) from 2002 to 2017. Results: Of the 13 patients, the male to female ratio was 6:7 and the mean age at diagnosis was 72.8 ± 8.4 years. Clinically, 8 patients (61.5%) were nodular subtype, 4 patients (30.8%) were pigmented one, and 1 patient (7.7%) was morpheic one. Most lesions (12/13, 92.3%) occurred on upper VL. In seven patients (53.8%), the lesion initially developed on the cutaneous lip and extended into the VL. In contrast, in the remaining 6 patients (46.2%) the lesion initially developed in the VL. History of excessive sun and tobacco exposure were found in 6 (46.2%) and 5 cases (38.5%), respectively. Histopathologically, 6 cases (38.5%) showed aggressive pattern infiltrating adjacent nerves, muscles, or vessels. All patients were treated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) and average MMS stages to achieve negative tumor margin was 2.2 (range, 1-4). Conclusion: According to our study, BCCs-VL were rare but histopathologically showed more aggressive patterns such as perineural, perivascular invasion. Therefore more attentions are needed in the management of BCCs-VL.

Background: More than 6 cafe-au-lait macules (CALMs) are initial clinical sign of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). However, we often encounter patients with isolated multiple CALMs without accompanying other sign of NF1. Objectives: To investigate the characteristic pattern of multiple CALMs that might be suggestive NF1. Methods: Forty patients with more than 6 CALMs who visited Pusan National University Hospitals (Busan and Yangsan) from 2011 to 2017 were enrolled in this study. Among them, 23 patients were designated as NF1 (17 patients were detected by NF1 gene mutation test and 6 patients were detected by clinical criteria). The remaining 17 patients were diagnosed as isolated multiple CALMs. We compared number, shape, and distribution of CALMs in patients with NF1 and isolated multiple CALMs. Results: Number of CALMs was higher in patients with NF1 than isolated multiple CALMs patients (20.2 vs. 17.7). Especially, proportion of typical CALMs, defined as oval shape and smooth border, was higher in NF1 than isolated multiple CALMs patients (40.44% vs. 17.27%, p=0.036). In distribution, CALMs of NF1 patients were more scattered than isolated multiple CALMs patients (affecting body segment, 4.9 vs. 2.9, p=0.002). And Facial CALMs were more common in patient with NF1 than isolated multiple CALMs (63.2% vs. 18.8, p=0.016). Conclusion: High rate of typical CALMs, scattered distribution and facial CALMs might be suggestive features of NF1.

Background: Despite characteristic clinical features of glomus tumor, dermatologists can meet diagnostic difficulty in some cases with glomus tumor. Objectives: To investigate clinical features and dermoscopic findings of glomus tumors. Methods: For 22 cases of glomus tumors, sex, age of initial visit, disease duration, site of lesion, size, associated symptoms and nail deformities and dermoscopic findings were investigated. Results: Mean age of initial visit and disease duration was 43.4±13.4 years old and 5.6±5.1 years, respectively(19 female, 3 male). Both 1st Fingers(9, 40.9%) were most common involved site. Nail lunula(12,54.5%) was more frequently involved than proximal nail fold(6,27.3%) or nail bed(4,18.2%). 15 cases were identifiable for size, and mean size was 6.0±1.9mm. There was associated symptoms such as pain(16,72.7%), tenderness(7,31.8%) and cold intolerance(2,9.1%). Onychoschizia(13,59.1%), longitudinal ridging(12,54.5%) and distal nail notching(8,36.4%) were commonly associated nail changes. On dermoscopic examination, whitish patch(16, 72.7%), purplish patch(15, 68.2%), erythematous patch(13, 59.1%) and irregular linear vessel(1, 4.5%) were observed. In 9 cases(40.9%), characteristic three zone consisting of central purplish patch, middle erythematous patch and peripheral whitish patch were observed. Conclusion: Characteristic dermoscopic findings of this study can help making more accurate diagnosis and performing appropriated treatment in glomus tumors

Editing plant genomes without introducing foreign DNA into cells may alleviate regulatory concerns related to genetically modified plants. We transfected preassembled complexes of purified Cas9 protein and guide RNA into plant protoplasts of Arabidopsis thaliana, tobacco, lettuce and rice and achieved targeted mutagenesis in regenerated plants at frequencies of up to 46%. The targeted sites contained germline-transmissible small insertions or deletions that are indistinguishable from naturally occurring genetic variation.
