Objective : The purpose of this study was to evidence the effect of Dong-Shi Acupuncture by improving degree of forty four patients who have received a Dong-Shi Acupuncture therapy at Dong Eui oriental hospital OPD and chiefly complained for neck pain and related symptoms. Materials and Methods: Forty four patients were diagnosed with physical inspection and radiography, and investigated into the effect of treatment sharing before treatment and after 2 weeks and 4 weeks treatment by Dr. Kim's method. Results and Conclusions: The conclusion of this study was that improving degree of forty four patients who have received a Dong-Shi acupuncture therapy for all items and excellence of the Dong-Shi Acupuncture was evidenced.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This study investigated the utility of poly(ether imide) (PEI) coating for improving the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of magnesium (Mg) implants for orthopedic application. In particular, the microstructure of the PEI coating layers was controlled by the adjustment of the temperature used to dry the spin‐coated wet PEI films. When a wet PEI film was dried at 4°C, a relatively thick and porous coating layer was achieved as a result of an extensive exchange of the solvent with water in a moist environment. In contrast, when a wet PEI film was dried at 70°C, a relatively thin and dense layer was created due to the faster evaporation of the solvent with a negligible exchange of the solvent with water. The porous PEI coating layer showed higher stability than did the dense one when immersed in a simulated body fluid (SBF), which was presumably attributed to the formation of chemical bonding between the PEI and the Mg substrate. Both the porous and the dense PEI coated Mg specimens showed significantly improved <I>in vitro</I> biocompatibility, which were assessed in terms of cell attachment, proliferation and differentiation. However, interestingly, the dense PEI coating layer showed greater cell proliferation and differentiation than did the porous layer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Objective: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in pregnancy is rare. It is believed that the changes of hormone levels may increase thrombogenic risk and interrupt cochlear microcirculation, causing the development of sudden deafness in pregnancy. This study aimed to investigate the incidence and to evaluate the risk factors associated with SSNHL during pregnancy. Methods: We enrolled 401,470 Korean women who had delivery between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2014 including 459 women with SSNHL. And we had undergone a national health screening examination through the National Health Insurance Corporation. Results: We evaluated the risk factors between 459 women with SSNHL in pregnancy and 401,011 without SSNHL. There were no statistically significant differences in the maternal age, parity, method of delivery, and gestational age at delivery. There were no differences in BMI, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, and cholesterol level between the two groups. After the adjustment of maternal age on multivariate analysis, SSNHL in pregnancy did not increase the risk for gestational hypertension, preterm birth less than 37 weeks gestation, small-for-gestational age, large-for-gestational age, postpartum hemorrhage, placental previa, and placental abruption. Conclusion: SSNHL can occur throughout the pregnancy and is not associated with maternal identified systemic diseases. It also does not increase risks during delivery or adverse perinatal outcome.

Procyanidins, which are natural antioxidants and antimicrobials found in grapes, enhance the quality and extend the shelf life of meat. We explored the effects of edible films incorporating procyanidins on pork loin stored for various times. Procyanidins (0, 0.1, and 0.3%, w/w) were incorporated into the edible films. We assessed meat color, pH, levels of volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) and 2-thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), and microbial populations for 14 d. The chromaticities and pH values of pork loin wrapped in film containing procyanidins (0.1% and 0.3%) generally increased (p<0.05) with storage time. VBN and TBARS levels, and total bacterial and Escherichia coli (E. coli) counts, significantly decreased (p<0.05) in the procyanidin groups. In particular, procyanidins strongly inhibited TBARS formation. Thus, our findings suggest that edible film impregnated with procyanidins inhibits lipid oxidation and microbial growth, thereby enhancing the quality and shelf life of pork meat.

<P>Short period superlattices comprising alternating InO<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP> and GaO<SUP>+</SUP>(ZnO)<SUB>2</SUB> layers were fabricated by a simple hybrid solution process and reactive solid-phase epitaxy at high temperature. The epitaxial ZnO buffer layer deposited by sputtering, and an amorphous IGZO layer fabricated from a solution mixture of 1 : 1 : 1.0 (In nitrate : Ga nitrate : Zn acetate) produced pure, single-phase InGaO<SUB>3</SUB>(ZnO)<SUB>2</SUB> films with a well-ordered layered structure and smooth surfaces, which showed intense periodic diffraction peaks. Deviation from the stoichiometric sol condition induced coexisting InGaO<SUB>3</SUB>(ZnO)<SUB>2</SUB> and other InGaO<SUB>3</SUB>(ZnO)<SUB><I>m</I></SUB> phases and very rough surface morphologies. The solid-phase epitaxy of a single phase decreased electrical resistivity, increased the Seebeck coefficient, and significantly improved the power factor. An extremely low thermal conductivity (1.11 W m<SUP>−1</SUP> K<SUP>−1</SUP>) was also obtained due to phonon scattering at the InO<SUB>2</SUB><SUP>−</SUP> and GaO<SUP>+</SUP>(ZnO)<SUB>2</SUB> interfaces by the formation of the superlattice structure. Development of a Monitoring System for Multichannel Cables Using TDR

<P>The purpose of this paper is to improve the management of cables that need much time and work in the measurement environment that has many multichannel cables. Therefore, a monitoring system that inspects faults and connection states of multichannel cables is suggested and designed. The system is based on time-domain reflectometry (TDR) and has two features that distinguish it from the precedent researches. One of them is a hardware interface for the multipair cable, which is a channel distributor designed using a switch. The other is the TDR-signal analysis algorithm based on the database. In other words, the system can check a number of signal wires included in a multichannel cable automatically with one step. In addition, it is able to show results of the signal analysis immediately. The performance of such a system is verified through tests. As a result, it is shown that the monitoring system is fast and reliable and it provides a reasonable analysis result on the TDR signal.</P>

Efforts to control viral diseases in crop production include several types of physical or chemical treatments; antiviral extracts of a number of plants have also been examined to inhibit plant viral infection. However, treatments utilizing naturally selected microorganisms with activity against plant viruses are poorly documented. Here we report isolation of a soil inhabiting bacterium, Pseudomonas oleovorans strain KBPF-004 (developmental code KNF2016) which showed antiviral activity against mechanical transmission of tobamoviruses. Antiviral activity was also evaluated in seed transmission of two tobamoviruses, Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) and Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV), by treatment of seed collected from infected pepper and watermelon, respectively. Pepper and watermelon seeds were treated with culture supernatant of P. oleovorans strain KBPF-004 or control strain ATCC 8062 before planting. Seeds germinated after treatment with water or ATCC 8062 yielded about 60% CGMMV or PMMoV positive plants, whereas < 20% of KBPF-004-treated seeds were virus-infected, a significantly reduced seed transmission rate. Furthermore, supernatant of P. oleovorans strain KBPF-004 remodeled aggregation of PMMoV 126 kDa protein and subcellular localization of movement protein in Nicotiana benthamiana, diminishing aggregation of the 126 kDa protein and essentially abolishing association of the movement protein with the microtubule network. In leaves agroinfiltrated with constructs expressing the coat protein (CP) of either PMMoV or CGMMV, less full-size CP was detected in the presence of supernatant of P. oleovorans strain KBPF-004. These changes may contribute to the antiviral effects of P. oleovorans strain KBPF-004.
Establishment of the Neutral Red Uptake Assay as Alternatives to the Draize test and its Validation

The necessity of using animals to test whether new chemicals and products are eye irritants has been questioned over the last 20 years. During this process, numerous non-animal methods have been proposed as reliable alternatives to the Draize test. The neutral red uptake assay is the in vitro method to test the eye irritation of chemicals and products. We need to validate the neutral red uptake assay as alternatives for the international harmonization. Therefore, we studied for the establishment of the neutral red uptake assay in Korea. In this study, we evaluated the eye irritation of five chemicals and three cosmetics by the Draize test and the neutral red uptake assay. The results of the neutral red uptake assay showed a correlation of r=−0.893(p=0.107) with our Draize score in two chemicals. And the results of the neutral red uptake assay showed correlation of r=0.892(p=0.017) with the Draize score obtained from the ECVAM (European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods) in additional three chemicals. All of three cosmetics were evaluated as non-irritants by our Draize test and the neutral red uptake assay. As a result, the neutral red uptake assay was established in Korea. For the international harmonization, the validation study has to be performed with more chemicals and products in more countries.
