The aim of the present study is to evaluate the efficiency of three methods to determine the molecular diversity of 34 Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP) strains isolated from 17 cattle herds. The applied methods included the analysis of sequence polymorphism of the mononucleotide (G1 and G2) and trinucleotide sequences (GGT) of the Short Sequence Repeats (SSR) and the determination of size polymorphism of 9 different Mycobacterial Interspersed Repetitive Units (MIRU) and 6 Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTR). Sequence analysis of SSR of 34 isolates showed 4, 6, and 2 alleles of G1, G2, and GGT repeats, respectively. The amplification of the investigated 9 MIRU units revealed only two discriminatory genotyping systems (MIRU2 and MIRU3). Out of 6 VNTR PCR differentiation methods, only one method could be recommended for genotyping purposes. The profile 7g-12g-4ggt-II-b-2 of the combination systems G1-G2-GGT-MIRU2-MIRU3-VNTR1658 dominates among the examined isolates and was detected in 14.7% of the isolates. The use of certain repetitive loci of SSR, MIRU, and VNTR techniques in this study showed greater potential than others for the characterization of MAP isolates. The recommended loci can be used for the epidemiological tracing of MAP field strains and to determine the relationships between isolates in different herds.

The main target of this paper is to allow renewable energy resources (RES) to participate eff ectively within hybrid micro grids via an optimal proportional integral- derivative (PID) controller. This paper proposes two techniques of optimal PID controllers in a hybrid renewable generation energy system. These techniques are particle swarm optimization (PSO) and lightning attachment procedure optimization (LAPO). The hybrid renewable generation energy system in this study includes a photovoltaic source, wind turbine, and battery storage, which are connected to a point of common coupling via DC/DC boost converters. The controller at the inverter consists of a current controller and voltage source controller, which results in three PID gains at each controller. In order to obtain the PID gains, a time domain objective function is formulated in terms of the voltage, and current errors. The obtained results with the individual advanced optimization LAPO and PSO algorithm are compared. The results display that the developed LAPO algorithms give better results compared to the conventional PSO at the input and output current, voltage, and power. All the results have been taken under several operating conditions of wind turbine (wind speed) and solar sun (changing irradiance and temperature).

The traditional approach of fixed spectrum allocation to licensed networks has resulted in spectrum underutilisation. Cognitive radio technology is envisioned as a promising solution that can be used to resolve the ineffectiveness of the fixed spectrum allocation policy by accessing the underutilised spectrum of existing technologies opportunistically. The implementation of cognitive radio networks (CRNs) faces distinct challenges due to the fact that two systems (i.e., cognitive radio (CR) and primary users (PUs)) with conflicting interests interact with each other. Specially, in self-organised systems such as ad-hoc CRNs (AHCRNs), the coordination of spectrum access introduces challenges to researchers due to rapid utilisation changes in the available spectrum, as well as the multi-hop nature of ad-hoc networks, which creates additional challenges in the analysis of resource allocation (e.g., power control, channel and rate allocation). Instead, game theory has been adopted as a powerful mathematical tool in analysing and modelling the interaction processes of AHCRNs. In this survey, we first review the most fundamental concepts and architectures of CRNs and AHCRNs. We then introduce the concepts of game theory, utility function, Nash equilibrium and pricing techniques. Finally, we survey the recent literature on the game theoretic analysis of AHCRNs, highlighting its applicability to the physical layer PHY, the MAC layer and the network layer.

The epidemiology of parasite infection in local and imported breeds is quite an essential topic in the meat industry and human health. This study aims to determine the prevalence of Dicrocoelium dendriticum in local sheep breeds (Naemi, Najdi, and Harri) and imported breeds from Romania (Romani breed) and the epidemiology of the infection in Saudi Arabia. Morphological description, the relationship between dicrocoeliasis and sex, age, and histological changes were also presented. A total of 6845 slaughtered sheep at Riyadh Automated slaughterhouse were investigated and followed up for 4 months between 2020–2021. It included 4,680 local breeds and 2,165 imported Romanian breeds. Fecal samples and livers and gallbladders from slaughtered animals were examined for apparent pathological lesions. The results indicated that the infection rate in slaughtered animals was 10.6% in imported Romani sheep and 0.9% in the local Naeimi breed. After identifying the parasite morphologically, negative results were obtained from examining feces, gallbladders, and livers of Najdi and Harry sheep breeds. The mean number of eggs per 20 μL/gallbladder was low (72.78 ± 17.8: 76.11 ± 5.07), medium (334.59 ± 90.6: 292.91 ± 26.63), and high (1113.2 ± 22.3: 1004 ± 143.4) in imported and Naeime sheep, respectively. Significant differences were found between gender and age (males and females were 3.67% and 6.31%; > 2 years 4.39%, 1–2 years 4.22%, and 1 year 3.53%) respectively. Histopathological lesions in the liver were more pronounced. Our survey confirmed the presence of D. dendriticum in imported Romani and local Naeimi sheep, and the potential role of imported sheep in the epidemiology of dicrocoeliasis in Saudi Arabia.

Tissue fibrosis, characterized by excessive accumulation of aberrant extracellular matrix (ECM) produced by myofibroblasts, is a growing cause of mortality worldwide. Understanding the factors that induce myofibroblastic differentiation is paramount to prevent or reverse the fibrogenic process. Integrin-mediated interaction between the ECM and cytoskeleton promotes myofibroblast differentiation. In the present study, we explored the significance of integrin alpha 11 (ITGA11), the integrin alpha subunit that selectively binds to type I collagen during tissue fibrosis in the liver, lungs and kidneys. We showed that ITGA11 was co-localized with α-smooth muscle actin-positive myofibroblasts and was correlatively induced with increasing fibrogenesis in mouse models and human fibrotic organs. Furthermore, transcriptome and protein expression analysis revealed that ITGA11 knockdown in hepatic stellate cells (liver-specific myofibroblasts) markedly reduced transforming growth factor β-induced differentiation and fibrotic parameters. Moreover, ITGA11 knockdown dramatically altered the myofibroblast phenotype, as indicated by the loss of protrusions, attenuated adhesion and migration, and impaired contractility of collagen I matrices. Furthermore, we demonstrated that ITGA11 was regulated by the hedgehog signaling pathway, and inhibition of the hedgehog pathway reduced ITGA11 expression and fibrotic parameters in human hepatic stellate cells in vitro, in liver fibrosis mouse model in vivo and in human liver slices ex vivo. Therefore, we speculated that ITGA11 might be involved in fibrogenic signaling and might act downstream of the hedgehog signaling pathway. These findings highlight the significance of the ITGA11 receptor as a highly promising therapeutic target in organ fibrosis.

An inverter is an important component used to generate alternating current (AC). One of the most common types is the multilevel inverter (MLI), which generates an AC multilevel voltage waveform. This device is designed from a simple topology with the power switching components in the full-bridge circuit connected in a series connection. The circuit consists of a total harmonic distortion (THD), voltage total harmonic distortion (VTHD), and current total harmonic distortion (CTHD). However, creating a suitable MLI technique capable of generating AC multilevel voltage waveform to achieve the lowest harmonic is one of the problems commonly faced. Therefore, this research aims to design a voltage level time division based on maximum pulse width to reduce THD on a multilevel transformerless photovoltaic inverter (TPVI) system. The direct current supplied to this is from the photovoltaic (PV) module. This research also aims to generate the phase delay time and pulse width of waves by proposing a division factor, n, proposed through mathematical modeling and simulated using SIMULINK Matlab. The results showed that the modeled PV is valid to the datasheet, therefore, it is suitable to supply the 11-level TPVI system. Furthermore, the proposed technique has the ability to generate the AC 11-level voltage waveform with diff erent division factors, n . The lowest VTHD and CTHD are achieved at values of 8, respectively.

The extracts of Carica papaya (flower), Barringtonia macrostachya (leaves), Coleus tuberosus (tuber), Mangifera indica (fruit skin) and Eugenia polyantha (leaves) showed strong in vitro anti-tumor promoting activity when assayed using Raji cells (Mooi et al., 1999). The anti-tumor promoting activity of the crude extracts was further analyzed by immunoblotting analysis of Raji cells carrying Epstein-Barr virus genome. The expression of early antigens diffuse (EA-D) and early antigens restricted (EA-R) was determined by performing western blotting of treated Raji cells with human sera of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients. All the plant extracts were shown to be able to suppress both EA-D and EA-R.
