The Effects of Transcranial Electric Stimulation and Cognition Reinforcement Training on the Expression of Tau Protein in Alzheimer's Disease Rat Models

Sung Hoon Ryu,Kyung Ok Min,Ki Cheol Sim,Gi Do Kim,Gye Yeop Kim 국제물리치료학회 2013 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.4 No.1

This study is intended to examine the tDCS and Morris Water maze training in Alzheimer’s disease(AD) rats on Tau protein expression. Experiment groups were divided into four groups and assigned 16 rats to each group. Group Ⅰ was a control group(AD induced by scopolamine); Group Ⅱ was a experimental control group(AD injured by scopolamine and treatment tacrine); Group Ⅲ was a group of tDCS application after AD injured by scopolamine; Group Ⅳ was a group of morris water maze training after AD injured by scopolamine. In cognition test, the outcome of group Ⅱ was significantly lower than the groups(p<.001). and group Ⅲ, Ⅳ were significantly low result at 14 days(p<.05). In histological finding, the experimental groups were destroy of micro vessels and finding of cell atropy and swelling. Group Ⅲ, Ⅳ were decreased in degeneration of liver and kidney cells. In immuno- histochemistric response of BDNF and tau protein in hippocampus, BDNF expression of Group Ⅱ was more increase than the other groups. and increase of BDNF expression was Ⅲ, Ⅳ were higher than group Ⅰ at 21 days. Tau protein expression of Group Ⅱ was more decrease than the other groups. and decrease of Tau protein expression was Ⅲ, Ⅳ were lower than group Ⅰ at 21 days. These result suggest that improved tDCS and morris water maze training after scopolamine induced is associated with dynamically altered expression of BDNF and Tau protein in hippocampus and that is related with cognitive function.

      • Nanothin Coculture Membranes with Tunable Pore Architecture and Thermoresponsive Functionality for Transfer-Printable Stem Cell-Derived Cardiac Sheets

        Ryu, Seungmi,Yoo, Jin,Jang, Yeongseon,Han, Jin,Yu, Seung Jung,Park, Jooyeon,Jung, Seon Yeop,Ahn, Kyung Hyun,Im, Sung Gap,Char, Kookheon,Kim, Byung-Soo American Chemical Society 2015 ACS NANO Vol.9 No.10

Coculturing stem cells with the desired cell type is an effective method to promote the differentiation of stem cells. The features of the membrane used for coculturing are crucial to achieving the best outcome. Not only should the membrane act as a physical barrier that prevents the mixing of the cocultured cell populations, but it should also allow effective interactions between the cells. Unfortunately, conventional membranes used for coculture do not sufficiently meet these requirements. In addition, cell harvesting using proteolytic enzymes following coculture impairs cell viability and the extracellular matrix (ECM) produced by the cultured cells. To overcome these limitations, we developed nanothin and highly porous (NTHP) membranes, which are ∼20-fold thinner and ∼25-fold more porous than the conventional coculture membranes. The tunable pore size of NTHP membranes at the nanoscale level was found crucial for the formation of direct gap junctions-mediated contacts between the cocultured cells. Differentiation of the cocultured stem cells was dramatically enhanced with the pore size-customized NTHP membrane system compared to conventional coculture methods. This was likely due to effective physical contacts between the cocultured cells and the fast diffusion of bioactive molecules across the membrane. Also, the thermoresponsive functionality of the NTHP membranes enabled the efficient generation of homogeneous, ECM-preserved, highly viable, and transfer-printable sheets of cardiomyogenically differentiated cells. The coculture platform developed in this study would be effective for producing various types of therapeutic multilayered cell sheets that can be differentiated from stem cells.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info

Surgical approach for venous malformation in the head and neck

        Ryu, Jeong Yeop,Eo, Pil Seon,Lee, Joon Seok,Lee, Jeong Woo,Lee, Seok Jong,Lee, Jong Min,Lee, Sang Yub,Huh, Seung,Kim, Ji Yoon,Chung, Ho Yun Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association 2019 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.20 No.5

Background: Treatment for venous malformations of the head and neck includes sclerotherapy, surgical resection, or a combination of both. Surgical resection can remove or reduce the volume of vascular lesions; however, surgery can cause postoperative scarring and potential surgical complications. This study sought to determine the effectiveness of surgery for the treatment of venous malformations of the head and neck. Methods: A retrospective review of the medical records of patients who received surgeries for venous malformations of the head and neck from January 2011 to July 2019 was performed. Using clinical photographs, preoperative and postoperative Doppler ultrasonography, outpatient clinic records, and operation records, the postoperative result and complications were evaluated for each case. Results: Among patients who visited our vascular anomalies clinic, 43 patients (ratio of male to female= 24:19) received surgeries for venous malformations of the head and neck. Twenty-nine patients had undergone surgery only, five patients received sclerotherapy after surgery, and nine patients received surgery after preoperative sclerotherapy. In postoperative evaluations, the result was excellent in 24 patients, good in 18 patients, and poor in one patient. Four patients experienced a recurrence of lesions with lagophthalmos, drooping of the corner of the mouth, partial wound necrosis, and scar widening found in one patient each. Conclusion: Because the head and neck region is the most exposed area in the body, more active implementation of surgical treatments with or without sclerotherapy is essential to reduce the functional and cosmetic impairments associated with venous malformations.

Combined treatment of surgery and sclerotherapy for sinus pericranii

        Ryu, Jeong Yeop,Lee, Jong Ho,Lee, Joon Seok,Lee, Jeong Woo,Lee, Seok Jong,Lee, Jong Min,Lee, Sang Yub,Huh, Seung,Kim, Ji Yoon,Hwang, Sung Kyoo,Chung, Ho Yun Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association 2020 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.21 No.2

Sinus pericranii is a rare vascular anomaly characterized by abnormal venous communication between the inner and outer regions of the cranial cavity. Here, we report a case of sinus pericranii and venous malformations in the right periorbital region of a 2-year-old girl. Radiologic findings showed venous malformations in the right parietal region communicating with the superior sagittal sinus in the intracranial region. There were notable improvements following surgical resection for the abnormal venous lesions and several sclerotherapies. Presence of a bluish and pulsating mass on the scalp, which showed bruit on auscultation, may indicate sinus pericranii, which should be included in the differential diagnosis.

Molecular cloning, characterization, and expression analysis of lignin biosynthesis genes from kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.)

        Ryu, Jaihyunk,Kwon, Soon-Jae,Sung, Sang Yeop,Kim, Wook-Jin,Kim, Dong Sub,Ahn, Joon-Woo,Kim, Jin-Beak,Kim, Sang Hoon,Ha, Bo-Keun,Kang, Si-Yong Springer-Verlag 2016 Genes & Genomics Vol.38 No.1

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is an annual herbaceous crop and the third largest fiber crop of economic importance, after cotton and jute. In view of recent global environmental challenges, multipurpose uses of kenaf have been developed, such as animal feed, bio-plastics, bio-fuels, and phytoremediation. We cloned genes related to monolignol biosynthesis using a reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR) strategy. 'Auxu' cultivars in the seedling phase were used as the experimental source material. The 4-coumarate:CoAligase (4CL), cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR), ferulate 5- hydroxylase (F5H), caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (COMT), cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase (CAD), encoding hydroxycinnamoyl transferase (HCT), rho-coumarate 3-hydroxylase (C3H) and caffeoyl-CoA-O-methyltransferase (CCoAOMT), cDNAs had open reading frames of 1623, 1017, 1179, 921, 1107, 1323, 1527 and 744 bp, encoding polypeptides of 540, 338, 392, 306, 368, 441, 508 and 247 amino acid residues, respectively. We submitted the five gene sequences (4CL, CCR, F5H, COMT, and CAD) to the GenBank database. A phylogenetic tree showed that lignin biosynthesis genes had the closest relationships with Gossypium and Theobroma cacao. Expression levels of the genes 4CL, HCT, C3H, CCoAOMT, CCR, F5H, COMT, and CAD in stems from plants harvested at four different growth stages were evaluated. Expression levels of 4CL, HCT, C3H, CCoAOMT, CCR, F5H, COMT, and CAD were gradually increased during the vegetative growth of kenaf stem. Similarly with the gene expression, lignin amounts were also increased during the stem growth. Thus, these six genes may be directly involved in lignin biosynthesis. These results will be useful basic data for molecular breeding to enhance bio-mass production.

        INSERTION-OF-IDEAL-FACTORS-PROPERTY

        Baek, Sang Ha,Han, Jung Min,Kim, Eun Ji,Kim, Ju Hee,Kim, Jung Soo,Kim, Min Jae,Kim, Pyeong-Geun,Yi, Changyoon,Lee, Dong Geun,Lee, Seung Yeop,Seo, Dae Jae,Lee, Yang,Ryu, Sung Ju The Youngnam Mathematical Society 2014 East Asian mathematical journal Vol.30 No.5

Due to Bell, a ring R is usually said to be IFP if ab = 0 implies aRb = 0 for $a,b{\in}R$. It is shown that if f(x)g(x) = 0 for $f(x)=a_0+a_1x$ and $g(x)=b_0+{\cdots}+b_nx^n$ in R[x], then $(f(x)R[x])^{2n+2}g(x)=0$. Motivated by this results, we study the structure of the IFP when proper ideals are taken in place of R, introducing the concept of insertion-of-ideal-factors-property (simply, IIFP) as a generalization of the IFP. A ring R will be called an IIFP ring if ab = 0 (for $a,b{\in}R$) implies aIb = 0 for some proper nonzero ideal I of R, where R is assumed to be non-simple. We in this note study the basic structure of IIFP rings.

장기간 hydroxyurea 치료 후 생긴 족부 궤양 2 예

        이상엽(Sang Yeop Lee),오현아(Hyun A Oh),이구(Ku Lee),류헌모(Hun Mo Ryu),이경희(Kyung Hee Lee),현명수(Myung Soo Hyun) 대한내과학회 2000 대한내과학회지 Vol.59 No.4

Hydroxyurea is an antineoplastic agent with selective cytotoxicity for cells in the DNA synthesizing phase, or S phase, of the cell cycle. It is commonly used in the treatment of myeloproliferative disorders, e.g., chronic myelogenous leukemia, essential thrombocythemia and polycythemia vera. Its major adverse reactions are reversible and dose dependent marrow suppression and gastroenteric disturbances. Cutaneous side effects such as erythema, hyperpigmentation, lichen planus-like dermatitis, nail discoloration and alopecia, atropy of the skin occur, especially with long-term treatment. Painful leg ulcers in association with hydroxyurea have only rarely been reported. The ulcers were usually extremely painful and typically located near the malleoli but were occasionally found over the tibia, on the dorsal aspect of the feet, calves, knees, heels, and hands. Any minor trauma could precipitate skin breakdown and ulceration and these ulcers tended to heal slowly. No consistent correlation between the dose or duration of hydroxyurea therapy and the occurrence of ulcers. Complete wound healing was achieved by simply discontinuing treatment with hydroxyurea. We describe 2 patients who developed spontaneous painful lower leg ulcers during long-term hydroxyurea therapy for a myeloproliferative disorder(chronic myelogenous leukemia and essential thrombo cythemia). All ulcers were painful and typically located both lateral malleoli. These ulcers healed only after hydroxyurea was withdrawn and with conservative therapy including manual debridement and occlusive dressing.(Korean J Med 59:457-462, 2000)
