We have previously shown that phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors induce osteoclast formation by suppressing the degradation of intracellular cAMP. To determine the regulatory roles of PDE inhibitors on PGE2-induced osteoclastogenesis, we investigated the effect of PDE inhibitors on osteoclast formation in the presence of PGE2. We found that IBMX, a nonselective PDE inhibitor, and rolipram, a specific PDE4 inhibitor, decreased PGE2-induced osteoclast formation in cocultures of mouse bone marrow cells and osteoblastic cells. These suppressive effects were observed only when cocultures were treated with PDE inhibitors in the presence of PGE2 at an early stage of differentiation. Northern blot analysis revealed that the PDE4 inhibitor works synergistically with PGE2 to increase the ratio of TRANCE/OPG mRNA in osteoblasts, suggesting that suppression of osteoclast formation by PGE2 and the PDE4 inhibitor is not attributable to their indirect effect on calvarial osteoblasts. We further demonstrated that the PDE4 inhibitor augments the inhibitory effect of PGE2 on osteoclast progenitor cell viability, showing that combined treatment with PGE2 and rolipram suppresses osteoclast formation by directly reducing osteoclast progenitor cell viability.

Purpose: To investigate the frequency and clinical significance of detected incidental lung nodules found on computed tomography (CT) simulation images for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) and a physician review. Materials and Methods: Sixty-seven treatment-$na{\ddot{i}}ve$ HCC patients treated with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization and radiotherapy (RT) were included for the study. Portal phase of simulation CT images was used for CAD analysis and a physician review for lung nodule detection. For automated nodule detection, a commercially available CAD system was used. To assess the performance of lung nodule detection for lung metastasis, the sensitivity, negative predictive value (NPV), and positive predictive value (PPV) were calculated. Results: Forty-six patients had incidental nodules detected by CAD with a total of 109 nodules. Only 20 (18.3%) nodules were considered to be significant nodules by a physician review. The number of significant nodules detected by both of CAD or a physician review was 24 in 9 patients. Lung metastases developed in 11 of 46 patients who had any type of nodule. The sensitivities were 58.3% and 100% based on patient number and on the number of nodules, respectively. The NPVs were 91.4% and 100%, respectively. And the PPVs were 77.8% and 91.7%, respectively. Conclusion: Incidental detection of metastatic nodules was not an uncommon event. From our study, CAD could be applied to CT simulation images allowing for an increase in detection of metastatic nodules.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin disease mediated by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells in acute phase. Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) play a role in the initiation of the Th2 response. Although mold exposure is associated with the development of AD, studies on the underlying mechanisms are lacking. This study investigated whether group 2 ILCs are involved in inflammation in AD-like skin induced by Aspergillus fumigatus (Af). Methods: We investigated changes of group 2 ILCs population in Af-induced AD-like skin lesions. To induce AD-like skin lesions, Af extracts were applied to the dorsal skin of BALB/c and Rag1−/− mice five times per week, with repeat exposures at 2-week intervals. Results: The clinical parameters were higher in the Af-treated group than in the control group. Histologic findings revealed epiderrmal and dermal thickening as well as eosinophil and mast cell infiltration into the skin of Af-treated mice. Populations of group 2 ILCs in the skin were also significantly higher in the Af-treated group. In addition, interleukin-33 mRNA expression was significantly higher in the skin lesions of the Af-treated mice. In the Rag1−/− mice lacking mature lymphocytes, AD-like skin lesions were still induced by Af and ILCs depletion using an anti-CD90.2 mAb lowered the Af-induced inflammatory response. Conclusions: Group 2 ILCs may play a role in a murine model of Af-induced AD-like skin lesions.
The Relative Effectiveness of Incidental and Intentional Learning of L2 Vocabulary
Hyojung Park,Hyunsook Yoon 팬코리아영어교육학회(구 영남영어교육학회) 2010 영어교육연구 Vol.22 No.1
The main purpose of the study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of incidental and intentional learning of second language (L2) vocabulary. The study was conducted with twenty sixth graders from an elementary school. They were randomly assigned to two groups (i.e., incidental meaning- focused reading group and intentional word-focused learning group) where they were given each treatment. For data collection, three aspects of word knowledge (i.e., form, meaning, and use) were measured by receptive and productive tests immediately after the treatments and two weeks later. The results of the immediate post-tests revealed that word-focused learning was more effective than meaning-focused reading in acquiring receptive and productive knowledge of “form” and“meaning.” On the other hand, meaning-focused reading was much more effective in acquiring the “use” aspect of word knowledge. On delayed post-tests, both groups showed significant loss in retention of the three aspects of word knowledge. However, the relative effectiveness of the two learning approaches was still evident.

In this paper, we propose a structure that prevents the charging eff ects that occur in devices fabricated on polyimide (PI)substrates. In general, when fabricating a device on a PI substrate, an inorganic barrier layer is fi rst deposited to preventpenetration of oxygen and moisture. In this study, we confi rmed that fl uorine ions were induced from PI by bias stress andproposed a SiOCH/SiO 2 double layer as a barrier to prevent charging. Then, Al/PI/SiO 2 /Al and Al/ PI/SiOCH/SiO 2 /Al metal–insulator–metal capacitors were manufactured. The capacitor characteristics before and after application of bias stress wereverifi ed through current–voltage (I–V) and capacitance–voltage (C–V), which are electrical characterization methods, andsecondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), which is a physical analysis method. As the voltage increased, the capacitance andcurrent of the Al/PI/SiO 2 /Al capacitor varied, but those of the Al/PI/SiOCH/SiO 2 /Al device did not change. Finally, SIMSanalysis confi rmed that the PI-derived fl uorine ions replaced the Si–CH 3 bonds within the SiOCH fi lm with Si–F bonds, thereby preventing capacitance and current fl uctuations.

In this paper, we introduce a method enabling faster and more innovative analysis of the channel characteristics of amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) thin film transistors (TFTs) manufactured on flexible substrates through electrical property analysis. The TFTs used in the present evaluation were a-IGZO TFTs with different oxygen flow rates (OFRs), which have been reported on frequently in the past, to confirm the effectiveness of the new evaluation method. The interface characteristics of the IGZO and the insulator were confirmed by density of state (DOS) extraction using photoexcited charge collection spectroscopy (PECCS). Defects of the TFT active layer were confirmed through the capacitance-time (c-t) method. It was confirmed that the smaller the OFR, the smaller the carrier lifetime due to the presence of oxygen vacancies. In conclusion, by obtaining the same results as previously reported physical analyses, the proposed electrical channel characteristics analysis of IGZO TFTs was shown to be a reliable analysis method.

Park, Hae-Ah,Kim, Johanna Inhyang,Kim, Yeni,Park, Subin,Yang, Younghui,Lee, Youngsun,Lee, Hyojung,Kim, Soo Yeon,Kim, Bung-Nyun Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2015 소아청소년정신의학 Vol.26 No.2
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by impaired social communication and repetitive, restricted behaviors and activities. The prevalence of ASD has been increasing for the past 2 decades, but evidence-based therapeutic approaches are lacking for patients with ASD. To date, there is no cure for the core symptoms of ASD, and the existing treatments focus on improving the patient's function and adaptation by using behavioral intervention methods. Behavioral interventions have been proven to show the greatest effect when applied before the age of 2 years, for at least 40-60 hours per week. Many clinicians and ASD families are unfamiliar with the treatment methods, and consequently, may seek unproven and potentially hazardous methods. The purpose of this article was to present an extensive and updated review on evidence-based ASD behavioral interventions that are commonly used in clinical settings.
