This paper presents a position estimator for vehicle parking assist system. A new odometric technique is described. It integrates four ABS sensors, a steering encoder and yaw rate sensor data. Data from these sensors are fused by means of Kalman Filter. Due to the redundancy of the measurements, the precision and robustness of the proposed technique, in the presence of undesirable effects, such as wheel slippage and incorrect wheel radius, are better than those of differential odometry using the rear wheels only. Vehicle test results using this algorithm are presented.

The emotion recognition is one of the most significant interface technologies which make the high level of<br/> human-machine communication possible. The central nervous system stimulated by emotional stimuli affects<br/> the autonomous nervous system like a heart, blood vessel, endocrine organs, and so on. Therefore bio-signals<br/> like HRV, ECG and EEG can reflect one’s emotional state. This study investigates the correlation between<br/> emotional states and bio-signals to realize the emotion recognition. This study also covers classification of<br/> human emotional states, selection of the effective bio-signal and signal processing. The experimental results<br/> presented in this paper show possibility of the emotion recognition.
Higher order optical resonant filters based on coupled defect resonators in photonic crystals

In this paper, a general methodology for the design of higher order coupled resonator filters in photonic crystals (PCs) is presented. In the proposed approach, the coupling between resonators is treated as though it occurs through a waveguide with an arbitrary phase shift. The coupling through the waveguide is analyzed theoretically, based on the coupled-mode theory in time. The derived theoretical model suggests a way to extend an equivalent circuit approach, previously demonstrated with a certain value of a phase shift, to the higher order filter design with an arbitrary phase shift. The validity of the proposed approach is confirmed by the design of a third-order Chebyshev filter having a center frequency of 193.55 THz, a flat bandwidth of 50 GHz, and ripples of 0.3 dB in the passband. The characteristics of the designed filter are suitable for wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) optical communication systems with a 100-GHz channel spacing. The performance of the designed filter is numerically calculated using the two-dimensional (2-D) finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
Metabolic Engineering of Escherichia coli for Production of Rainbow Colorants

Using synthetic colorants has increased health concerns and caused interest in producing natural colorants for replacement. However, many natural colorants are hydrophobic, either accumulated inside or on the cell membrane, which causes cell growth limitation and reduces the production. Here, we engineered Escherichia coli membranes for enhanced production of rainbow colorants, three carotenoids and four violacein derivatives which are hydrophobic. 322 ㎎L-1 of astaxanthin (red), 343 ㎎L-1 of β-carotene (orange), 218 ㎎L-1 of zeaxanthin (yellow), 1.42 gL-1 of proviolacein (green), 0.844 gL-1 of prodeoxyviolacein (blue), 6.19 gL-1 of violacein (navy), and 11.26 gL-1 of deoxyviolacein (purple) were produced by employing systems metabolic engineering strategies including cell morphology engineering, inner-membrane and outer-membrane vesicle formation, and fermentation optimization. These membrane engineering strategies are useful for microbial production of diverse hydrophobic natural products.

Milnor fibers and symplectic fillings of quotient surface singularities

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We determine a one-to-one correspondence between Milnor fibers and minimal symplectic fillings of a quotient surface singularity (up to diffeomorphism type) by giving an explicit algorithm to compare them mainly via techniques from the minimal model program for 3-folds and Pinkham's negative weight smoothing. As by-products, we show that:</P> <P>– Milnor fibers associated to irreducible components of the reduced versal deformation space of a quotient surface singularity are not diffeomorphic to each other with a few obvious exceptions. For this, we classify minimal symplectic fillings of a quotient surface singularity up to diffeomorphism.</P> <P>– Any symplectic filling of a quotient surface singularity is obtained by a sequence of rational blow-downs from a special resolution (so-called the maximal resolution) of the singularity, which is an analogue of the one-to-one correspondence between the irreducible components of the reduced versal deformation space and the so-called <I>P</I>-resolutions of a quotient surface singularity.</P>

This paper presents a wide-frequencyrange, low-power transceiver with an automatic impedance-matching calibration for TV-white-space (TVWS) application. The wide-range automatic impedance matching calibration (AIMC) is proposed for the Drive Amplifier (DA) and LNA. The optimal S22 and S11 matching capacitances are selected in the DA and LNA, respectively. Also, the Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) switch is integrated to share the antenna and matching network between the transmitter and receiver, thereby minimizing the systemic cost. An N-path filter is proposed to reject the large interferers in the TVWS frequency band. The current-driven mixer with a 25% duty LO generator is designed to achieve the high-gain and low-noise figures; also, the frequency synthesizer is designed to generate the wide-range LO signals, and it is used to implement the FSK modulation with a programmable loop bandwidth for multi-rate communication. The TVWS transceiver is implemented in 0.13 μm, 1-poly, 6-metal CMOS technology. The die area of the transceiver is 4 mm x 3 mm. The power consumption levels of the transmitter and receiver are 64.35 mW and 39.8 mW, respectively, when the output-power level of the transmitter is +10 dBm at a supply voltage of 3.3 V. The phase noise of the PLL output at Band 2 is -128.3 dBc/Hz with a 1 MHz offset.
