<P>S<SUB>3</SUB> is one of the basic allotropes of sulfur but is still a mysterious labile species. We selectively trapped S<SUB>3</SUB> in a pore of a thermally stable coordination network and determined S<SUB>3</SUB> structure by <I>ab initio</I> X-ray powder diffraction analysis. S<SUB>3</SUB> in a pore has a <I>C</I><SUB>2<I>v</I></SUB> bent structure. The network containing trapped S<SUB>3</SUB> is remarkably stable under ambient conditions and is inert to photoirradiation. S<SUB>3</SUB> in the network could be transformed to S<SUB>6</SUB> by mechanical grinding or heating in the presence of NH<SUB>4</SUB>X (X = Cl or Br). S<SUB>6</SUB> could be reverse-transformed to S<SUB>3</SUB> by photoirradiation. Nucleation of a crack is readily defected by acoustic emission (AE) method. One powerful technique for AE waveform analysis has been developed as SiGMh (Simplified Greens functions for Moment tensor Analysis), as crack kinematics of locations, types and orientations are quantitatively determined. Because these kinematical outcomes are obtained as three-dimensional (3-D) locations and vectors, 3-D visualization is definitely desirable. To this end, the visualization system has been developed by using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language). As an application, failure protest of a reinforced concrete beam is discussed.
Design standard for fairway in next generation

The depth, width and alignment of fairway that are main port water facilities should be designed considering the various elements including particulars of design ships, weather and sea conditions around fairway and method of ship-handling. However not only the existing Japanese design standard for fairway and also those of other countries do not take into consideration of such kind of elements and no design standard is made by quantitative analysis. In this circumstance the new design standard [Approach Channels, A Guide for Design] depending on classified various elements and quantitative analysis was proposed in 1997 by PIANC and IAPH. But it was proved that calculated values according to this standard were unfounded and had some problems to output the discontinuous value by small difference of calculation condition because the each value for each element was simply added. And also it is hard to apply this standard to the design of port water facilities in Japan because this [A Guide for Design] is the design standard for long channels in European port. The proposal of more reasonable Japanese standard will be expected by applying the study result of naval architecture and navigation and by the cooperation of ship operators to use fairway, naval architects to built ships and civil engineers to dredge fairway. The concept of a fairway in “Design standard for fairway in next generation" is defined as passage (or approach channel) and traffic lane designated by light buoys as navigable water for safe navigation. In “Design standard for fairway in next generation" depth, width and alignment are picked up among many design elements of a fairway. Design method for those elements is shown based on design ships and navigational environments. This standard shows the method of design for each dimension depending on characteristic on design ship and weather and sea condition. On the other hand, in case of existing fairway, it is possible to decide the size of ship and navigation criteria by opposite analysis.

<P>Ramucirumab is an IgG1 monoclonal antibody specific for the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2. Ramucirumab, 8 mg/kg every 2 weeks, administered as monotherapy (REGARD) or in combination with paclitaxel (RAINBOW), was safe and effective in patients with previously treated advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer. We evaluated exposure-efficacy and exposure-safety relationships of ramucirumab from two randomized, placebo-controlled phase III trials. Sparse pharmacokinetic samples were collected, and a population pharmacokinetic analysis was conducted to predict ramucirumab minimumtrough concentration at steady state (C-min,C-ss). Kaplan-Meier methods and Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the ramucirumab exposure (C-min,C-ss)-efficacy relationship to overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate exposure-safety relationships. Analyses included 321 ramucirumab + paclitaxel and 335 placebo + paclitaxel patients from RAINBOW and 72 ramucirumab and 35 placebo patients from REGARD. Exposure-efficacy analysis showed ramucirumab C-min,C-ss was a significant predictor of OS and PFS in both trials. Higher ramucirumab exposure was associated with longer OS and PFS. In RAINBOW, grade >= 3 hypertension, leukopenia, and neutropenia, but not febrile neutropenia, significantly correlated with Cmin, ss, with increased exposure leading to increased incidence. Exploratory exposure-response analyses suggest a positive relationship between efficacy and ramucirumab exposure with manageable toxicities at exposures generated from a dose of 8 mg/kg ramucirumab given every 2 weeks for patients with advanced gastric/GEJ cancer. These findings suggest an opportunity to further optimize benefit versus risk profiles of ramucirumab treatment in patients with gastric/GEJ cancer. (C) 2017 AACR.</P>

<P>P-4 generated from red phosphorus via the gas phase was trapped into an interactive pore of a porous coordination network, showing weak interactions which stabilize the reactive P-4 in a pore. The network is reusable as a safe container of P-4. Furthermore, we found a size dependence of the P-4 trapping amount: for 100-50 mu m crystal, 27% occupancy of P-4; and for < 20 mu m crystal, ca. 93% occupancy of P-4.</P>
