The Potential Space of Art : Creativity, Affect and transgression
Nicholas Addison 한국국제미술교육학회 2012 미술과 교육 Vol.13 No.1
investigate the conditions that enable creativity to flourish school art education by looking at the environmental conditions that support and sustain creative activity. In the process I critique the emphasis on creative individuals drawing in Vygotskian notion of learning as a social event as well as critiquing the benign profile of creativity as a primarily productive process. The latter is examined in relation to a transgressive event in which school students "attack" their teacher through the license afforded them by a drawing "game." This is theorized in relation to Klein and her insistence on the persistence of infantile phantasy and its signiticance for creative action. To bring these ideas together I draw on Winncott's notion of a "potential space" as one in which safe, materna environments allow children to take risks, a necessity for creativity.
Regional Optimization of the IRI-2012 Output (TEC, foF2) by Using Derived GPS-TEC
Nicholas Ssessanga,김용하,김은솔,김재민 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.10
Accurate measurement and determination of the state of the ionosphere has become a key point as ground-based communication systems become more space dependent. However, due to limited infrastructure, a number of global models have been developed with extensive interpolation techniques to comprehensively describe ionospheric dynamics. As a result, most global models do not perform adequately in regions with a paucity of ionospheric measurements. In this paper, the most recent International Reference Ionosphere (IRI-2012) model output, Total Electron Content (TEC) and F2 layer critical frequency (foF2), are optimized (over a range of 120 E − 150 E and 20 N − 50 N in longitude and latitude, respectively). To obtain the optimal solution, we adjust two input parameters, the 12-month running mean sun spot number (R12) and the ionospheric index (IG12), in relation to the derived Global Positioning System (GPS) vertical TEC (VTEC). The results are compared to the measured TEC and foF2 from GPS receivers and ionosondes, respectively. The analysis shows that the modified IRI-2012 model is more accurate at estimating both the TEC and the foF2 values than the original model during days of geomagnetic quiet and disturbance.
PRIVATE AND GOVERNMENT CONSUMPTION IN TRANSITIONAL ECONOMIES : A PANEL DATA ANALYSIS
Nicholas Apergis,Katerina Lyroudi,Athanasios Sfetsos 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2008 Journal of Economic Development Vol.33 No.1
This paper investigates the presence of the relationship between private and government consumption through panel data techniques. Using a panel from different transitional countries, from 1990 to 2003, it applies the panel cointegration and causality methodologies. The study finds statistical evidence for a long run relationship between the variables under study. The empirical findings do not support the Ricardian Equivalence, since government consumption affects private consumption negatively in both methodological approaches
Of Grasshoppers, Caterpillars, and Beans: A Historical Perspective on Hmong Messianism
Nicholas Tapp 서강대학교 동아연구소 2015 TRaNS(Trans –Regional and –National Studies of Sou Vol.3 No.2
This paper considers Hmong messianism in Asia and beyond from a historical perspective, arguing that its thematic repetition of themes and ideas requires a new understanding of subjectivity at the intersections of the psychological with the social and political. Hmong messianic movements have adopted a variety offorms ranging from the more indigenous to the more explicitly Christian. While the attempt is not to seek a particularist ‘ethnographic-historical’ understanding of these recurrent movements, nevertheless the contexts of colonialisation, mass migration and marginal social status are suggested as providing the essential background for such an understanding. Several different theoretical approaches to understanding such movements are considered, with some attention to major theorists ofstructure and agency. It is argued that ultimately messianic movements can be appreciated in terms ofa kind of‘anticipatory consciousness’, and are enabled to challenge current social orders because they are motivated by a particular notion of time, which combines a medieval and revolutionary notion of simultaneity with one of historical progression which is, however, not gradualist. A ‘central irreducible core’ of ritual beliefs and actions among the Hmong emerges from this consideration of historical movements, which may demand a reconsideration of older and largely abandoned notions of cultural structure.
Buckling optimization of laminated composite plate with elliptical cutout using ANN and GA
Nicholas, P. Emmanuel,Padmanaban, K.P.,Vasudevan, D. Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.4
Buckling optimization of laminated composite plates is significant as they fail because of buckling under in-plane compressive loading. The plate is usually modeled without cutout so that the buckling strength is found analytically using classical laminate plate theory (CLPT). However in real world applications, the composite plates are modeled with cutouts for getting them assembled and to offer the provisions like windows, doors and control system. Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to analyze the buckling strength of the plate with cutouts and it leads to high computational cost when the plate is optimized. In this article, a genetic algorithm based optimization technique is used to optimize the composite plate with cutout. The computational time is highly reduced by replacing FEA with artificial neural network (ANN). The effectiveness of the proposed method is explored with two numerical examples.
Using GST To Analyze the Collapse of AOL
Nicholas John Robak KINFORMS 2008 Management Review Vol.3 No.1
In 1972 Fremont E. Kast and James E. Rosenzweig published “General Systems Theory: Applications for Organization and Management “ in the Academy of Management Journal. Over the more than thirty years since publication this article has become a classic. The writing is quite theoretical and abstract. This paper will take the highly conceptual, often abstruse, terminology used in the article and take the current status of AOL (America Online) to illustrate the mechanics articulated and thereby illustrate the applicability and relevance of the article today.
Monetary and Asset Market Models for Sterling Exchange Rates: A Cointegration Approach
( Nicholas Sarantis ),( Chris Stewart ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 1995 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.10 No.3
The aim of this paper is to investigate the determination of bilateral sterling exchange rates over the floating period 1973Q1-1990Q3. The exchange rates covered are: US dollar/pound, D-mark/pound, yen/pound, and F-franc/pound. We provide an econometric evaluation of the main exchange rate theories, using the cointegration-error correction methodology and non-nested tests. We have been unable to find any statistical evidence in support of a long-run relationship consistent with the various monetary models. The empirical results for the long-run and dynamic exchange rate equations provide strong support for a modified uncovered interest rate parity and the portfolio balance models.
