뇌동맥류 파열의 계절적 변동과 유발인자에 대한 임상분석

The author investigated activities and events of the patients as well as diurnal and seasonal variation in the onset of aneurysmal rupture in 124 consecutive patients. The result showed that the onset of aneurysmal rupture was associated with nonactive state(sleep, rest) in 17.9%, working on job or house in 12.8%, bathing and/ or washing up in 7.2%. Diurnal variation of the onset of aneurysmal rupture showed two broad peak from 6 to 12 a. m. (32.2%) and from 7 to 11 p. m. (24.1%). The seasonal variation of onset of aneurysmal rupture showed the large peak in from late winter to early spring. The 22.6% patients rebleeded after initial bleeding, the first day rebleeding rate is 17.9% and rebleeding in a week is 71.4%. We concluded that onset of the aneurysmal rupture is related not only to physiol ogical circadian periodicity of blood pressure change but also to the activities or event which induced a sharp rising blood pressure and changing the venous and cerebrospinal fluid pressure.
HPLC를 이용한 백삼,홍삼 및 홍삼 농죽액의 Ginsenosides 함량 분석

Commercial White ginseng(WG), Red ginseng (RG), and Red ginseng concentrate(RGC) were analyzed for ginsenosides Rg1, Rb1, and Re by HPLC. The contents of Rg1, Rb and Re were 0.25%, 0.17%, 0.13% in WG, the contents of Rg1, Rb1, and Re were 0.11%, 0.23%, 0.12% in RG, and the contents of Rg1, Rb1, and Re were 0.7%, 0.04%, 0.42% in RGC. In Rg1, the contents were decreased in the order of RGC(O.70%)>WG (0.25%)>RG(O.11%), in Rb1, RG(O.23%)>WG(O.17%)> RGC(O.04%), in Re, RGC(0.42%)>WG(0.13%)>RG(O.12%). The total content s of Rg1, Rb1, and Re were decreased in the order of RGC(1.16%)>WG(0.55%)>RG(O.46%). Overall results demonstrated that The content of Rg1 was higher than those of Rb1 and Re in WG and RGC, while the content of Rb1 was higher than those of Rg1 and Re in RG.

불포화 에스트테르 수지의 큰 이용분야의 하나로 건축재료가 있으나 여기서 가장 문제로 되어 있는 것이 바로 난연성의 향상이다 불포화 폴리에스터수지는 탄소를 구성성분으로 하는 유기물이므로 무기재료와 같은 불연성을 기대하기는 어려우나 어느 정도까지는 연소를 억제시킬 수는 있다. 본 연구에서는 UP를 결합재로 하고 탄산칼슘을 충진재로, 규사를 잔골재로 하는 폴리머 모르터를 제조하고 이에 첨가되는 난연제량과 UP량을 각각, 5~12.5%, 12~24%로 변화시켜 난수별 난연특성을 고찰하였던 바, UP사용량에 따른 특정 난연제의 최적 사용량 범위를 얻을 수 있었다. One of the fields using the unsaturated polyester resin is the constructional material, but the most serious problem, in this field, is the incombustibility improvement. it is hard to expect the noncombustibility as in the inorganic materials for the unsaturated polyester resin since whose structural material is carbon, but the combustion can be controlled up to some degree. In this study the polymer mortars were made in which the unsaturated polyester resin as binder, the calcium carbonate as filler and the silica sand as fine aggregate. The incombustible characteristics were then investigated as varying the amount of the flame retarder and the unsaturated polyester resin from 5 to 12.5% and 12 to 24%, respectively. Based on the results, the optimized range of amount of flame retarder used with various amount of unsaturated polyester resin could be obtained.

Simultaneous oceurrence of adrenocortical tumor and pheochromocytoma is extremely rare. Coexistence of adrenal tumor and pheochromocytoma was first reported by Cope in 1952 and some other cases were reported after that. But there was no report about coexistence of adrenocortical carcinoma and paragangliomas. Recently, we experienced a case of adrenocortical carcinoma associated with multiple paragangliomas. A 35-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of left upper abdominal pain. A palm-sized fum tender mass was palpated at left upper quadrant. Hormonal studies revealed pheochromocytomas feature. Fmergency operation was performed because of the possibility of intemal hemorrhage of the tumor. Operator found 10 cm sized mass in left adrenal area and also the other 5 small tumors adjacent to IVC. Pathologic report revealed that adrenal mass was adrenocortical carcinoma with hemorrhagic necrosis and tumors adjacent to IVC were paragangliomas. This patient was the first case of adrenocortical carcinoma with multiple paragangliomas in the world. So we report this case with a review of literature. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 14:599-604, 1999)
Fra-1 Expression in Malignant and Benign Thyroid Tumor

N/A Background : The differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules is very important in deciding the treatment modality and the fine needle aspiration is the best diagnostic method. But, there are some limitations in use because of inadequate test materials and difficulty in interpreting. According to the study of oncogene and tumor suppressor gene about the origin of thyroid tumor, expression of Fra-1, one of AP-1 complex, is increased in thyroid neoplasm, though not present in the normal tissue. So, there is a possibility that it will be used as a method for the differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules. We tried to know whether presence or absence of Fra-1 expression can be used as a diagnostic method in differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules using the immunohistochemical (IHC) staining method. Method : In 4 types of thyroid tumor that were confirmed by histologic diagnosis after operation (18 cases of adenomatous goiter, 16 cases of follicular adenoma, 30 cases of papillary cancer, 10 cases of follicular cancer), IHC staining method was performed to evaluate the expression of Fra-1. Result : In papillary and follicular thyroid cancers, the expression of Fra-1 was stronger than in benign thyroid tumor, but there was no difference in Fra-1 expression between the two types of carcinoma. Weak expression of Fra-1 was observed in all cases of follicular adenoma, though it was weaker than in carcinoma, and it was also weakly expressed only in some cases (33%) of adenomatous goiter. Conclusion : The expression of Fra-1 was stronger in thyroid cancer than in benign thyroid tumor, but it was impossible to differentiate thyroid cancer from benign thyroid tumor by presence or absence of Fra-1 expression using IHC staining method.

The potential benefits of generating and using transgenic cattle range from im-provements in agriculture to the production of large quantities of pharmaceutically rele-vant proteins. Previous studies have attempted to produce transgenic cattle and other livestock by pronuclear injection and somatic cell nuclear transfer, but these approa-ches have been largely ineffective; however, a third approach, lentivirus-mediated trans-genesis, has successfully produced transgenic livestock. In this study, we generated transgenic (TG) Korean native cattle using perivitelline space injection of viral vectors, which expressed enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) systemically. Two different types of lentiviral vectors derived from feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) carrying EGFP were injected into the perivitelline space of MII oocytes. EGFP expression at 8-cell stage was significantly higher in the FIV group compared to the HIV group (47.5±2.2% vs. 22.9±2.9%). Eight- cell embryos that expressed EGFP were cultured into blastocysts and then transferred into 40 heifers. Ten heifers were successfully impregnated and delivered 10 healthy calves. All of these calves expressed EGFP as detected by in vivo imaging, PCR and Southern blotting. In addition, we established an EGFP-expressing cell line from TG calves, which was followed by nuclear transfer (NT). Recloned 8-cell embryos also expressed EGFP, and there were no differences in the rates of fusion, cleavage and development between cells derived from TG- and non-TG calves, which were subsequently used for NT. These results illustrate that FIV-based lentiviruses are useful for the production of TG cattle. Moreover, our established EGFP cell line can be used for additional studies that involve induced pluripotent stem cells.
