E. corrodens는 면역저하 환자에서 주로 문제를 일으키며, 감염시 두경부, 폐, 복부 등에 위험을 초래할 수 있어 치료의 적절성에 대한 중요성이 부각되고 있다. Eikenella corrodens는 균 동정을 위해 CO₂의 공급을 필요로 하며 서서히 자라는 특성상 까다로운 배양조건을 필요로 하는 균주이다. 혐기성 균주이지만 metronidazole이나 clindamycin과 같은 항균제에는 반응을 안하는 특이한 항생제 감수성에 의해 보편적인 구강내 상재균에 대한 경험적 치료에 실패할 수 있다. 치료에 있어 잘못된 초기 항생제 선택이나 외과적 시술이 적절히 시행되지 않은 경우에 치료실패의 요인이 될 수 있으므로 적절한 항생제 사용과 함께 외과적 처치가 동반되어야 한다. 저자들은 정상 면역력을 가진 성인에서 사람에게 물리고 난 후 발생한 E. corrodens에 의한 간농양의 적절한 치료의 결과를 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Eikenella corrodens is a slow growing, facultatively anaerobic gram-negative rod that is part of the normal flora of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tracts. In most patients with E. corrodens infections, host defenses are compromised due to surgery, or chronic debilitating illness such as malignancies, or immunosuppressive therapy. This organism causes abscesses and infections that are at times fatal. We experienced a case of E. corrodens isolated from liver abscess in an immunocompetent patient. A 50-year-old man who is a dentist, was hospitalized because of fever and myalgia of 10 days' duration. Abdominal ultrasonography showed non-septated, 3.8×4.6 ㎝ sized abscess in the segment 6/7 of the liver. E. corrodens was isolated from aspiration of liver abscess. This organism was presumably acquired from his patient's oral cavity during dental procedure. We hope that increased awareness to E. corrodens will raise the index of suspicion, and contribute to optimal management of these infections, minimizing the significant morbidity associated with this organism.
CaCl<sub>2</sub> 용융염에서 TiO<sub>2</sub> 펠렛의 전기화학적 환원반응 특성

본 연구에서는 $850^{\circ}C$의 $CaCl_2$ 용융염계에서 전해환원공정을 통해 $TiO_2$로부터 금속티타늄을 제조하였다. Ni-$TiO_2$ 조합전극을 환원전극으로 그라파이트를 산화전극으로 사용하였으며, 셀전위를 제어하면서 $TiO_2$의 전해환원 특성을 관찰하였다. XRD 분석을 통해 $TiO_2$가 $CaTiO_3$, $Ti_2O$, $Ti_6O$와 같은 다양한 반응 중간생성물을 거쳐 Ti 스폰지로 환원되는 것이 밝혀졌다. 또한 SEM 분석을 통해 $TiO_2$ 전해환원 반응동안 펠렛의 바깥표면부터 환원반응이 시작되어 펠렛중심으로 진행이 되는 것이 확인되었다. 전해환원 반응도중 환원된 티타늄금속은 초기에는 다공성 스폰지 구조를 보이나 고온에서 반응이 진행됨에 따라 점차 소결에 의해 수축되어 다공성 구조가 사라지는 현상을 보였다. A porous $TiO_2$ pellet was electrochemically converted to the metallic titanium by using a $CaCl_2$ molten salt system at $850^{\circ}C$. Ni-$TiO_2$ and graphite electrodes were used as cathode and anode, respectively. The electrochemical behaviour of $TiO_2$ pellet was determined by a constant voltage control electrolysis. Various reaction intermediates such as $CaTiO_3$, $Ti_2O$ and $Ti_6O$ were observed by XRD analysis during electrolysis of the pellet. Once $TiO_2$ pellet was converted to a porous metallic structure, the porous structure disappeared by sintering and shrinking with increasing the reaction time at high temperature.

<P>The aim of this study was to investigate the protective ability of blackberry extract (BE) against oxidative stress in carbon tetrachloride (CCl<SUB>4</SUB>)-treated rats. The results showed that treatment with BE attenuated lipid peroxidation that was increased by CCl<SUB>4</SUB> and also markedly recovered the activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione reductase (GR), that were decreased by CCl<SUB>4</SUB>. BE also elevated the protein expression levels of NF-E2-related factor-2 (Nrf2), CuZnSOD, MnSOD, GPx-1/2, and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), but not that of catalase. Furthermore, the administration of BE significantly attenuated the levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) that were increased by CCl<SUB>4</SUB>. Therefore, the present study suggests that BE possesses significant protective effects against in vivo oxidative stress.</P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/jf2021804'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

Purpose To assess the magnitude of differences between attenuation values of the true non-contrast image (TNC) and virtual non-contrast image (VNC) derived from twin-beam dual-energy CT (tbDECT) and dual-source DECT (dsDECT). Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 62 patients who underwent liver dynamic DECT with tbDECT (n = 32) or dsDECT (n = 30). Arterial VNC (AVNC), portal VNC (PVNC), and delayed VNC (DVNC) were reconstructed using multiphasic DECT. Attenuation values of multiple intra-abdominal organs (n = 11) on TNCs were subsequently compared to those on multiphasic VNCs. Further, we investigated the percentage of cases with an absolute difference between TNC and VNC of ≤ 10 Hounsfield units (HU). Results For the mean attenuation values of TNC and VNC, 33 items for each DECT were compared according to the multiphasic VNCs and organs. More than half of the comparison items for each DECT showed significant differences (tbDECT 17/33; dsDECT 19/33; Bonferroni correction p < 0.0167). The percentage of cases with an absolute difference ≤ 10 HU was 56.7%, 69.2%, and 78.6% in AVNC, PVNC, and DVNC in tbDECT, respectively, and 70.5%, 78%, and 78% in dsDECT, respectively. Conclusion VNCs derived from the two DECTs were insufficient to replace TNCs because of the considerable difference in attenuation values.

We present a new block cipher called DyC. It consists of four sets(procedures) having the different 22, 22, 24, and 28 one-to-one correspondence functions as the elements. Each one-to-one correspondence function maps a given block to another block. The round key is used to determine exactly one composite function from the possible 216 composite function. The (i+1)th round block is an image of the ith round block in the composite function specified by the ith round key. DyC supports 8×m bit key size, 8×m bit block length, and n rounds. We have confirmed that DyC offers difficulty finding differential and linear characteristics. Moreover, DyC offers security against other well-known advanced cryptanalytic attacks including the slide attacks and interpotation attacks. DyC was designed to offer excellent efficiency in software implementations, including memory requiraments in smart card implementations, as well as performance on other platforms.

The prediction of maneuverability is very important in the design process of an underwater vehicle. In this study, we predicted the steady turning ability of a symmetrical underwater vehicle while considering interactions between the yaw rate and drift/rudder angle through a simulation-based methodology. First, the hydrodynamic force and moment, including coupled derivatives, were obtained by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The feasibility of CFD results were verified by comparing static drift/rudder simulations to vertical planar motion mechanism (VPMM) tests. Turning motion simulations were then performed by solving 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) equations with CFD data. The turning radius, drift angle, advance, and tactical diameter were calculated. The results show good agreement with sea trial data and the effects on the turning characteristics of coupled interaction terms, especially between the yaw rate and drift angle.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are widely distributed in nature and have many applications due to their unique chemical and physicochemical properties. While, PFCs are present in soil, water, and air, their pathway for entry into the human body is circumstantially via contaminated food. The demand for seafood has been increasing. In this study, we investigated via LC-MS/MS, the content of 19 different types of PFCs in 302 samples belonging to five different categories of the typical South Korean seafood. The highest levels of PFOA, PFTrDA, PFOS, and PFPeA were found in dried seafood, canned and salted seafood, processed fish food, and seasoned laver, respectively. The levels of PFOA and PFOS were compared on the basis of various criteria including the nomenclature, biological classification, and habitat of the source of seafood. High levels of PFOA and PFOS were detected in anchovy, sea squirt, and mackerel based on the nomenclature of raw seafood, in crustaceans based on the biological classification, and in demersal organisms based on the habitat. The human intake values of PFOA and PFOS from the processed marine products in South Korea were lower than the tolerable daily intake, indicating that the consumption of these processed seafood poses no immediate harm.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Method validation of each food base was performed. </LI> <LI> 19 types of PFCs showed different patterns in 5 processed seafoods. </LI> <LI> The main cause of the detected levels of PFOA and PFOS was fish species. </LI> <LI> Dry process and characteristics of PFCs affect their levels in dried seafood. </LI> <LI> The levels of PFOA and PFOS were higher in demersal fish than in pelagic fish. </LI> </UL> </P>
