Effect of Vinyl Acetate Effluent in Reducing Heat of Hydration of Concrete

Mohammad Ismail,Ainul Haezah Noruzman,Muhammad Aamer Rafique Bhutta,Taliat Ola Yusuf,Ibrahim Hassan Ogiri 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.20 No.1

Waste generation especially in surface coating industries is a potential pollutant to the environment globally. Waste disposal in the form of recycling or reused has gained some recognition as a raw material in many kind of interested fields. This study is therefore, aimed at utilizing Vinyl acetate effluent generated from manufacturing process of paint as polymer modifier in concrete. The research highlights the influence of Vinyl acetate effluent on setting time and control of heat of hydration in concrete. Three specimens containing 0%, 2.5% and 5% of Vinyl acetate effluent by weight of cement were prepared in cubic moulds. The temperature rises due to heat of hydration in all mixes were recorded. Finding shows that incorporating Vinyl acetate effluent considerably delayed the setting time in cement paste and reduced the total temperature rise in polymer modified concrete. Therefore, addition of Vinyl acetate effluent polymer in concrete may improve the properties of concrete to some extent particularly in mass concrete production.

Improved corrosion resistance of mild steel against acid activation: Impact of novel Elaeis guineensis and silver nanoparticles

Mohammad Ali Asaad,Noor Nabilah Sarbini,Arizu Sulaiman,Mohammad Ismail,Ghasan Fahim Huseien,Zaiton Abdul Majid,Pandian Bothi Raja 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.63 No.-

Influence of novel green Elaeis guineensis (EG) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on the improved corrosion resistance of mild steel against acute acid attack is reported. Such EG/AgNPs were synthesized from palm oil leaf extracts and used as inhibitor with varying contents to inspect the feasibility of modifying the acid (1 M HCl(aq)) mediated anti-corrosion behaviour of mild steel. The structural and morphological properties of the extracted EG/AgNPs inhibitor (in powder form) were determined using TEM, XRD, and EDX analyses. Furthermore, the acid solution exposed mild steel specimens were characterized via FESEM, EDX, AFM, XRD, weight loss, polarization and electrochemical impedance measurements. Mild steel surface was found to adsorb the EG/AgNPs and formed a protective film advantageous for inhibiting the acid attack. Steel specimen incorporated with 10% (v/v) of EG/AgNPs inhibitor revealed maximum inhibition efficiency of 94.1%.

      • A Multi-Layer Perceptron Approach for Customer Churn Prediction

Mohammad Ridwan Ismail,Mohd Khalid Awang,M Nordin A Rahman,Mokhairi Makhtar 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.10 No.7

Nowadays, the telecommunication industries are facing substantial competition among the providers in order to capture new customers. Many providers have faced a loss of profitability due to the existing customers migrating to other providers. Customer retention program is one of the main strategies adopted in order to keep customers loyal to their provider. However, it requires a high cost and therefore the best strategy that companies could practice is to focus on identifying the customers that have the potential to churn at an early stage. The limited amount of research on investigating customer churn using machine learning techniques has lead this research to explore the potential of an artificial neural network to improve customer churn prediction. The research proposes Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural network approach to predict customer churn in one of the leading Malaysian’s telecommunication companies. The results are compared against the most popular churn prediction techniques such as Multiple Regression Analysis and Logistic Regression Analysis. The result has proven the supremacy of neural network (91.28% of prediction accuracy) over the statistical models in prediction tasks. Overall, the findings suggest that a neural network learning algorithm could offer a viable alternative to statistical predictive approaches in customer churn prediction.

SECTORAL CO-INTEGRATION AND THE ROLE OF AGRICULTURE IN BANGLADESH

Mohammad Ismail Hossain,Mst. Esmat Ara Begum,Eleni Papadopoulou,AnastasiosSemos 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2012 JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE Vol.10 No.3

This study estimates a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) that incorporates the linkages among the agriculture, industry, construction, transport, storage and communication and service sectors for Bangladesh by using historical data from 1979 to 2009. Two cointegrating vectors confirm that all the different sectors moved together over the sample period, and therefore that their growth rates are interdependent. The long-run relationships of the industrial, construction, transport, storage and communication and service sectors to the agricultural sector were established, and the results show that the industrial and construction sectors contribute positively to the agricultural sector, the growing service sector contributes negatively and the transport, storage and communication sector shows mixed results. In addition, weak exogeneity for the agricultural sector is rejected and this underlines the fact that the agricultural sector should be considered by policymakers in any analysis of inter sector growth.

Cointegration Analysis of Rural Wheat Markets in Northern Bangladesh

Mohammad Ismail Hossain,Eleni Papadopoulou,Esmat Ara Begum 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2011 JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE Vol.9 No.2

This paper examines the cointegration of wheat market prices in Northern Bangladesh. Results are based on weekly wholesale price data on wheat collected from the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) in eight markets in the Rangpur division of Northern Bangladesh. The data has 208 observations for wheat in each of the eight markets ranging over a period of January 2006 to December 2009. Johansen’s cointegration test reveals that most of the wholesale markets of wheat in the Rangpur division are co-integrated which indicates that price signals and information are transmitted smoothly across the markets. The discovery of the market integration appears to be quite significant for the success of price policy and market liberalization programs which are being undertaken in Bangladesh.

Farmers and private traders response to rice markets liberalization in Bangladesh

Mohammad Ismail  Hos,Wim Verbeke 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2008 JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE Vol.6 No.1

Rice is staple food for Bangladeshi people. Although rice markets were liberalized in 1992, the government continued to intervene in this sector. This study examines the farmers" and private traders" response in liberalized rice marketing system in two regions. 40 farmers and 20 traders were interviewed by using a structural questionnaire for collecting the necessary information. The liberalization of the rice market, in particular, has been embraced more by the private traders then by the farmers. Although there has been a rapid emergence of private traders, the emergence of a vibrant trading sector that would fill the gap left by the state has been slow. The rice market is segmented with the private traders supplying different market circuits. Farmers on the other have not responded positively ? 새 the lack of capital, lack of storage facilities, lack of market information, dominance of intermediaries and low price during the harvest period. Most of the farmers are unwilling to expand their acreage due to the family requirements of other crops. In rural remote areas where the road infrastructure is poor, private sector marketing activities have not yet emerged. Thus government can foster private participation and market integration by improving the road and storage infrastructure. Furthermore, government needs to take measures that strengthen the agricultural price and marketing information system targeted at both farmers and traders.

Brown Tumor of the Cervical Spines: A Case Report with Literature Review

Mohammad Dursi Alfawareh,Mohammed Mohamoud Halawani,Walid Ismail Attia,Mohamoud Halawani 대한척추외과학회 2015 Asian Spine Journal Vol.9 No.1

To report a rare case of axis brown tumor and to review literature of cervical spine brown tumor. Brown tumor is a rare bone lesion, incidence less than 5% in primary hyperparathyroidism. It is more common in secondary hyperparathyroidism with up to 13% of cases. Brown tumor reactive lesion forms as a result of disturbed bone remodeling due to long standing increase in parathyroid hormones. Cervical spine involvement is extremely rare, can be confused with serous spine lesions. To date, only four cases of cervical spine involvement have been reported. Three were due to secondary hyperparathyroidism. Only one was reported to involve the axis and was due to secondary hyperparathyroidism. This is the first reported case of axis brown tumor due to primary hyperparathyroidism. A case report of brown tumor is presented. A literature review was conducted by a Medline search of reported cases of brown tumor, key words: brown tumor, osteoclastoma and cervical lesions. The resulting papers were reviewed and cervical spine cases were listed then classified according to the level, cause, and management. Only four previous cases involved the cervical spine. Three were caused by secondary hyperparathyroidism and one was by primary hyperparathyroidism which involved the C6. Our case was the first case of C2 involvement of primary hyperparathyroidism and it was managed conservatively. Brown tumor, a rare spinal tumor that presents with high PTH and giant cells, requires a high level of suspicion.

      • Biogeography-based Interference Mitigation Scheme for OFDMA System in Heterogeneous Network

Mohammad Kamrul Hasan,Ahmad Fadzil Ismail,Aisha-Hassan Abdalla,Wahidah Hashim,Shayla Islam 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.10

In Heterogeneous Network (HetNet), the small base station such as femtocells are deployed in indoor and multiple business complexes in order to extend the coverage and capacity. The deployment of co-channel (i.e. shared channel) for femtocells along with macrocell induces the severe interference issues. This is because of effects on SINR and thereby capacity become deteriorated. Therefore, this paper investigates the interference mitigation techniques and come out with a proposal to improve the Signal to Interference Noise Ratio (SINR) performance as well as total capacity in Heterogeneous Network (HetNet). The simulation results show that the achieved capacity is maximized than the existing technique.

The Sustainable Port Classification Framework for Enhancing the Port Coordination System

Mohammad Khairuddin OTHMAN,Noorul Shaiful Fitri ABDUL RAHMAN,Alisha ISMAIL,A.H. SAHARUDDIN 한국해운물류학회 2019 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.35 No.1

The port classification framework is not only beneficial for highlighting the background of the ports, but can also be utilized in the benchmarking and comparison of port coordination systems. In Malaysia, the lack of concrete justifications in the existing port classification process had resulted in a debatable framework of port classification development and consequently, confusion among the port stakeholders. As such, this study is conducted with the aim of revising the Malaysian ports' classification framework according to the global perspective of a sustainable port classification framework through the enhancement of its national port coordination system. By using a qualitative approach of descriptive analysis, the background of the port classification systems was not only analysed according to the Malaysian and global perspectives, the segregation of three different ports classes was also emphasized in the enhancement of the country's port coordination system. Apart from being a comprehensive reference that aids the academicians and stakeholders in the improvement of the existing loopholes in the Malaysian port coordination system, this paper had also offered a sustainable classification framework guideline for decision and policy-makers in the expansion of port competitiveness through a reclassification of the national port operations.
