This research work focuses on the design of a robust-adaptive control algorithm for a 4DOF Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV). The proposed strategy is based in a Non-Singular Terminal Sliding Mode Control (NTSMC) with adaptive gains, where the proposed adaptation mechanism ensures that the gains remain bounded. In this control strategy a non-singular terminal sliding surface is proposed to obtain a faster convergence of the tracking errors. The NTSMC ensures Practical Finite-Time Stability for the closed-loop system as well as exhibits a chattering reduction. In order to demonstrate the satisfactory performance of the proposed controller, a set of experiments was performed with a Non-singular Terminal Sliding Mode Controller and an Adaptive Non-Singular Terminal Sliding Mode Control (ANTSMC) in real time for trajectory tracking in the X-Y plane, the graphs showed that the ANTSMC converges faster to a smaller region and reduces oscillations.
Modified Disk-Shaped Compact Tension Test for Measuring Concrete Fracture Properties

A new approach for measuring the specific fracture energy of concrete denoted modified disk-shaped compact tension (MDCT) test is presented. The procedure is based on previous ideas regarding the use of compact tension specimens for studying the fracture behavior of concrete but implies significantmodifications of the specimen morphology in order to avoid premature failures (such as the breakage of concrete around the pulling load holes). The manufacturing and test performance is improved and simplified, enhancing the reliability of the material characterization. MDCTspecimens are particularly suitable when fracture properties of already casted concrete structures are required. To evaluate the applicability of theMDCT test to estimate the size-independent specific fracture energy of concrete (GF), the interaction between the fracture process zone of concrete and the boundary of theMDCTspecimens at the end of the test is properly analyzed. Further, the experimental results of GF obtained by MDCT tests for normal- and high-strength selfcompacting concrete mixes are compared with those obtained using the well-established three-point bending test. The procedure proposed furnishes promising results, and the GF values obtained are reliable enough for the specimen size range studied in this work.

Characterization of the main component of equal width welded I-beam-to-RHS-column connections

The present paper tries to contribute fill the gap of application of the component method to tubular connections. For this purpose, one typical joint configuration in which just one component can be considered as active has been studied. These joints were selected as symmetrically loaded welded connections in which the beam width was the same as the column width. This focused the study on the component „side walls of rectangular hollow sections (RHS) in tension/compression‟. It should be one of the main components to be considered in welded unstiffened joints between I beams and RHS columns. Many experimental tests on double-sided I-beam-to-RHS-column joint with a width ratio 1 have been carried out by the authors and a finite element (FE) model was validated with their results. Then, some different analytical approaches for the component stiffness and strength have been assessed. Finally, the stiffness proposals have been compared with some FE simulations on I-beam-to-RHS-column joints. This work finally proposes the most adequate equations that were found for the stiffness and strength characterization of the component „side walls of RHS in tension/compression‟ to be applied in a further unified global proposal for the application of the component method to RHS.
Optimal Dispatch Model for Demand Response Aggregators

This paper proposes a new three-phase optimal dispatch model for multiple Demand Response (DR) aggregators. By means of the unbalanced distribution system modeling, DR involvement of single- and three-phase consumers is considered avoiding aggravating the asymmetric balancing between phases, as opposed to traditional positive-sequence DR approaches. Furthermore, this proposal can consider several DR service providers by means of the explicit inclusion of their characteristics, in the form of cost functions and capacity, in an optimal dispatch model for DR support at the distribution system level. Hence, this proposal helps to eliminate any possible uncertainty about the provision of DR services by improving the traditional hierarchical scheme adopted based on prices issued by the Independent System Operator (ISO). The model is implemented and solved combining the two state-of-the-art computational tools, Matlab® and OpenDSS. The former is used to solve the optimization problem, whereas the latter is used to perform numerical simulations of three-phase unbalanced power flow; both tools allow a straightforward model implementation resulting in a tool easily modified and updated. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is numerically demonstrated using the IEEE 13- and 123-node test feeders, in which undesirable operating scenarios are corrected by the implementation of the optimal dispatch of DR resources in very short computational times. Based on the results, it is shown how the ISO is capable to request DR considering several aggregators competing at the distribution system level. Finally, the loss reduction has been included in the objective function, showing that the proposal optimally dispatches the DR aggregators to conveniently minimize the ISO’s operational costs.

A 36 year-old man was referred to our hospital for the evaluation of an abnormal shadow on the cardiac apex on a chest X-ray fi lm.He denied systemic disease such as hypertension or diabetes mellitus and had no history of specifi c conditions, such as Kawasaki`s disease, chest trauma or connective tissue disorder. He had no subjective symptoms. His blood pressure was 120/75 mmHg and pulse rate was 70 beats/min. On physical examination, continuous murmur of a grade II/VI was audible at 4th left intercostal space. The results of other physical examination and blood test were normal. A Chest X-ray showed a radio-opaque shadow at the apex. An echocardiography was arranged and a round sac of 4x4 cm located in the apex, as well as a double-chamber right ventricle was observed Contrast echocardiography with Sonovue showed the fi lling of the vascular sac with contrast then partial fi lling of the distal RV apex. The abnormal vascular sac was connected from the left side to a vascular structure that looks to be coronary artery and from the right side to the distal part of a double right ventricle apex with a bi-directional shunt (fi stula). It also demonstrates the high velocity and centrifuge nature of blood fl ow in the vascular sac. Chest CT showed a LAD ectasia with a 4x4 cm saccular aneurysm at the distal portion of LAD Cardiac MRI revealed a giant left descending coronary artery distal aneurysm attached to a double apex right ventricle Coronary angiography revealed a dilated LAD with a huge saccular coronary aneurysm at its distal portion. The patient refused surgical correction for the coronary aneurysm and fi stula. He was discharged and has been followed up for more than 1 year without cardiovascular events.
