Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of $Alocasia$ $indica$ ($Roxb.$) $Schott$

        Rahman, Md. Atiqur,Solaiman, Md.,Haque, Md. Ekramul,Das, A.K. 경희한의학연구센터 2011 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.11 No.3

The ethanol extract of the dried rhizome of Alocasia indica (Roxb.) Schott. (Family - Araceae) was investigated for its possible analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in animal models. The extract showed significant ($P$ <0.001) writhing inhibition in acetic acid-induced writhing in mice at the oral dose of 300 and 600 mg/kg of body weight comparable to the standard drug diclofenac sodium at the dose of 25 mg/kg of body weight. Moreover, when given orally to rats at dose of 300 and 600 mg/kg of body weight, the extract showed a significant ($P$ <0.001) anti-inflammatory activity against carrageenin induced paw edema in rats which was comparable to the standard drug aspirin at the dose of 150 mg/kg of body weight. The overall results tend to suggest the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of the crude ethanolic extract of dried rhizome of $Alocasia$ $indica$ ($Roxb.$) $Schott$. The obtained results provide a support for the use of this plant in traditional medicine and its further investigation.

Thermo-hydraulic Effect of Tubular Heat Exchanger Fitted with Perforated Baffle Plate with Rectangular Shutter-type Deflector

Md Atiqur Rahman 한국화학공학회 2024 Korean Chemical Engineering Research(HWAHAK KONGHA Vol.62 No.2

A study was conducted on a tubular heat exchanger to improve its heat transfer rate by using a novel baffle plate design with discontinuous swirling patterns. The design consisted of perforated baffle plates with rectangular air deflectors positioned at varying angles. The tubes in the heat exchanger were arranged in a consistent alignment with the airflow direction and exposed to a uniform heat flux on their surfaces. Each baffle plate included sixteen deflectors inclined at the same angle and arranged in a clockwise pattern. This arrangement induced a swirling motion of the air inside a circular duct where the heated tubes were located, leading to increased turbulence and improved heat transfer on the tube surfaces. The spacing between the baffle plates was adjusted at different pitch ratios, and the Reynolds number was controlled within a range of 16,000 to 29,000. The effects of pitch ratios and inclination angles on the heat exchanger's performance were analyzed. The results indicated that using a baffle plate with rectangular deflectors inclined at 30° and a pitch ratio of 1.2 resulted in an average increase of 1.29 in the thermal enhancement factor.

      • DWT-SVD based New Watermarking Idea in RGB Color Space

Md. Atiqur Rahman,M.M. Fazle Rabbi 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.6

The growing demand of securing the online trade and digital content bought the digital watermarking as major tools for protecting copyright, preventing unauthorized distribution, track back the source, confirming the ownership, authentication and many more. This paper proposes a new algorithm which shows better resistance against some common attacks. The SVD-DWT technique is applied here for deconstructing and reconstructing the image. The secret watermark is embedded into the R band using a secret key after separating the host image into three respective bands namely R, G and B. The extracting process is performed by splitting the watermarked image into all the color channels and then applying further process into R plane. The experimental result shown in tabular form indicates the better robustness of the proposed algorithm against various attacks on image.

MPK9 and MPK12 function in SA-induced stomatal closure in Arabidopsis thaliana

        Khokon, Md. Atiqur Rahman,Salam, Mohammad Abdus,Jammes, Fabien,Ye, Wenxiu,Hossain, Mohammad Anowar,Okuma, Eiji,Nakamura, Yoshimasa,Mori, Izumi C.,Kwak, June M.,Murata, Yoshiyuki Informa UK (TaylorFrancis) 2017 Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry Vol.81 No.7

Salicylic acid (SA) induces stomatal closure sharing several components with abscisic acid (ABA) and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) signaling. We have previously shown that two guard cell-preferential mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), MPK9 and MPK12, positively regulate ABA signaling and MeJA signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana. In this study, we examined whether these two MAPKs are involved in SA-induced stomatal closure using genetic mutants and a pharmacological, MAPKK inhibitor. Salicylic acid induced stomatal closure in mpk9 and mpk12 single mutants but not in mpk9 mpk12 double mutants. The MAPKK inhibitor PD98059 inhibited SA-induced stomatal closure in wild-type plants. Salicylic acid induced extracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, intracellular ROS accumulation, and cytosolic alkalization in the mpk9, mpk12, and mpk9 mpk12 mutants. Moreover, SA-activated S-type anion channels in guard cells of wild-type plants but not in guard cells of mpk9 mpk12 double mutants. These results imply that MPK9 and MPK12 are positive regulators of SA signaling in Arabidopsis guard cells.
