A Photovoltaic (PV) system’s power output varies with the change of climate. Frequency deviations, tie line voltage swings are caused by the varying PV power when large PV power from several PV systems is fed in the utility. In this paper, to overcome these problems, a simple coordinated control method for smoothing the variations of combined PV power from multiple PV systems is proposed. Here, output power command is formed in two steps: central and local. Fuzzy control is used to produce the central smoothing output power command considering insolation, variance of insolation and absolute average of frequency deviation. In local step, a simple coordination is kept between the central power command and the local power commands by producing a common tuning factor. Power converters are used to achieve the same output power as local command power employing PI control law for each of the PV generation systems. The proposed method is compared with the method where conventional Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control is used for each of the PV systems. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective for smoothing the output power variations and feasible to reduce the frequency deviations of the power utility.
An Analytical Framework for Studying the Determinants of Vertical Specialization in Asian Countries
Manoj Kumar Academy of Asian Business (AAB) 2018 Academy of Asian Business Review Vol.4 No.1
The paper first presents and modifies this model and then explores its predictions in an empirical analysis of the determinants of vertical specialization (VS) as defined by an index developed by Hummels et al. (2011). The index is calculated for a cross-section of 45 Asian countries and 5 sectors and regressed on a number of variables affecting the timeliness of delivery. In this paper, we identify a deeper dimension of the rising trade shares: the increased importance of imported inputs in the production of goods that are exported that is, vertical specialization. Our evidence from case studies and regression results tables points to large and increasing shares of trade that can be attributed to vertical-specialization based trade. The quantification of VS based trade for each country/product pair in each period is made in a relative and conservative manner, since it includes only the value of intermediate imports that surpasses what is implied by the chosen threshold. The detailed results can be subsequently added up to get any product or geographical breakdown desired. We illustrate this measure by showing the evolution of VS activities at the level over the last four decades using a product breakdown by technological intensity and a geographical breakdown by main areas. There is also empirical evidence on the sharp increase of VS activities in Asia. It is found that vertical specialization is sensitive to trade barriers and infrastructure quality and cost of infrastructural services. The relative importance of trade barriers and various indicators of infrastructure vary between sectors. Thus, we can expect the importance of vertical trade to grow as the world economy heads into the twenty first century.

The present study was aimed to investigate behavioural and biochemical effects of chronic exposure of amplitude modulated and non-modulated microwave radiation on laboratory mice. Chronic microwave exposures were executed with 2.45 GHz of either modulated (power density, 0.029 mW/cm2; specific absorption rate, 0.019 W/Kg with sinusoidal modulation of 400 Hz) or nonmodulated continuous sinusoidal wave (power density, 0.033 mW/cm2; specific absorption rate, 0.023 W/Kg) for 2 hrs daily for 1 month. Mice subjected to non-modulated microwave exposure had significantly increased acetylcholinesterase activity and increased intracellular calcium and nitric oxide levels in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, and also had increased glucose and corticosterone levels in blood compared to control mice. These non-modulated microwave-exposed mice exhibited anxiety-like and depression-like behaviours. In contrast, mice exposed to modulated microwave for the same period did not show such changes in concomitant biochemical and behavioural analyses. These results suggest that chronic non-modulated microwave, but not modulated microwave, radiation may cause anxiety-like and depression-like behaviours and calcium- and NO-related biochemical changes in the brain.
Electro-discharge machining performance of TiCN-based cermets
Manoj Kumar, B.V.,Ramkumar, J.,Basu, B.,Kang, S. MPR Pub. Services 2007 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF REFRACTORY METALS AND HAR Vol.25 No.4
The present investigation aims at evaluating the die sinking electro-discharge machining (EDM) performance of TiCN-20wt.% Ni cermets containing 10wt.% of different secondary carbides: WC, NbC and TaC. Such performance is assessed in terms of making cavity of 1mm depth on a commercial high speed tool steel (HSS). The material removal rate (MRR) is found to be higher for TiCN-20wt.% Ni cermet; however tool wear ratio (TWR) is lower for TiCN-20Ni-10TaC cermet. The quality of cermet tool surface has been quantitatively assessed using surface roughness tester and it was observed that the roughness (Ra or Rz) of TiCN-20Ni-10TaC cermet tool surface is lower, when compared with that of other investigated cermets. SEM-EDAX analysis of EDM surfaces reveal melting and evaporation of the binder as well as pull-out and spalling of brittle carbonitride/carbide grains as the dominant wear mechanisms. The layer formation due to solidification of molten layer and/or transfer of material from workpiece is commonly observed for all the cermet tool surfaces.
The Role of Regional Trade Agreements: in the Case of India
( Manoj Pant ),( Anusree Paul ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2018 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.33 No.3
A Regional Trade Agreements is expected to increase the intra-regional trade volume and welfare of countries. We argue that a formation of Regional Trade Agreements is an endogenous process in the case of India in the model incorporating both inter- and intra-industry trade. Our Results suggest that a Regional Trade Arrangement is encouraging trade only when the partner countries are already sharing great trade volume. For India, its engagements with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and East Asia per se are unlikely to boost trade.
Optimal Design of Flexbeam Cross-Sections using Particle Swarm Assisted Genetic Algorithm
Manoj Kumar Dhadwal,Kyubaek Lim,Sung Nam Jung,Tae Joo Kim 한국항공우주학회 2013 한국항공우주학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.11
This paper presents the optimal design of flexbeam cross-sections for a full-scale bearingless helicopter. A hybrid optimization algorithm based on the particle swarm optimization and real-coded genetic algorithm is used combined with an effective constraint handling scheme. A new rank-based crossover is developed for the real-coded genetic algorithm based on the mutation operator of differential evolution and heuristic crossover. The suggested crossover operator improves both the efficiency as well as the global exploration of the solutions. The particle swarm optimization is then hybridized with the improved genetic algorithm. Euclidean-distance based niching is implemented in the genetic algorithm to maintain the population diversity. The developed algorithm is used for the design of two configurations of the flexbeam cross-section. The optimal results are obtained within very few function evaluations and less CPU time.
A Hybrid of Particle Swarm and Genetic Algorithm for Constrained Real-Parameter Optimization
Manoj Kumar Dhadwal,Sung Nam Jung,Tae Joo Kim 한국항공우주학회 2013 한국항공우주학회 학술발표회 논문집 Vol.2013 No.4
This paper presents a hybrid evolutionary algorithm based on particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm. Levy flights based random walk is introduced in the global-best particle swarm algorithm to enhance the global exploration. A new rank-based multiparent crossover operator is proposed for the realcoded genetic algorithm which improves both the local as well as the global search. The constraints are handled using a feasible population based approach. The numerical experiments are performed on benchmark constrained nonlinear problems including the engineering optimization problems. The results show significant improvements as compared to the other state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of efficiency and robustness.
