Effects of endosulfan (EN), an insecticide, and bleomycin (BL), an antibiotic, on the body weight in the normal mice, and the in vivo cell growth, tumor weight, and hematological parameters of the Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cell-bearing Swiss albino mice Mus musculus were evaluated. EN and BL were respectively administered orally and intraperitoneally to the experimental mice; the control group consisted of EAC cell-bearing untreated mice only. EN reduced the body weight in normal mice, whereas BL resulted in a steady body weight compared to the control. EN increased the EAC cell count significantly by reducing the growth of normal viable cells. In contrast, BL reduced the cell count by increasing the proportion of viable cells in the body. The tumor weights induced by EN were significantly higher than those of the EAC control and the BL-treated animals. In comparisons with the control and the BL mice, hematological parameters such as hemoglobin (%) and the number of RBC and lymphocytes were lowered, while counts of WBC, neutrophils, and monocytes were elevated after EN treatments. These results show that BL is capable of reducing the EN-induced neoplastic and haematological alterations in the mice under laboratory conditions. Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder where genetic factors play causal role. This case-control study explored the association between perinatal and socioeconomic status with risk of autism. It was a case control study among children who came from different areas of the country during the period of 2005 to 2015 for assessment in the outdoor facility of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. One hundred children were diagnosed autism by Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)-Generic. Among them 79 were boys and 21 were girls. Another one hundred children without autism were taken as control, 65 of them were boys and 35 were girls. Perinatal and socioeconomic risk factors were analyzed in these two groups, using medical records. Mean age of the ASD children was 3.51+1.58 year and control was 3.80+1.53. Male predominance was observed in ASD children. After univariate analysis three significant variables identified to pose as risk for autism. These were parental advanced level of education (P=<0.001), urban residence (P=<0.001) and neonatal jaundice (P=<0.001). Variables like male sex, occupation as service holder and low birth weight at birth approached significance at the 0.05 level. Results suggested that parental profile as well as perinatal environment are associated with risk of autism and this factors act independently.

Nonplanar Ion-acoustic Shock Waves in a Multi-ion Plasma with Nonextensive Electrons and Positrons

The basic features of ion-acoustic shock waves (IASHWs) in a multi-ion nonextensive plasma (containing positive light ions, negative heavy ions, as well as nonextensive electrons and positrons) have been rigorously investigated in a nonplanar geometry. The standard reductive perturbation method has been employed to derive the Modified Burgers (MB) equation. The combined effects of the electron and positron nonextensivity, and the ion kinematic viscosity significantly have been found to modify the basic properties of these electrostatic shock structures. The properties of the cylindrical and the spherical IASHWs are observed to differ significantly from those of onedimensional planar waves. The findings obtained from this theoretical investigation may be useful in understanding the characteristics of IASHWs both in space and laboratory plasmas.

A rigorous theoretical investigation has been carried out on the propagation of nonplanar (cylindrical and spherical) dust-ion-acoustic (DIA) waves in an unmagnetized dusty multi-ion plasma system containing nonextensive electrons, inertial negatively-charged heavy ions, positively-charged Maxwellian light ions, and negatively-charged stationary dust. The well-known reductive perturbation technique has been used to derive the modified Burgers-type equation (which describes the shock wave’s properties), and its numerical solution is obtained. The basic features (viz. polarity, amplitude, width, etc.) of the cylindrical and the spherical DIA shock waves are investigated. The basic features of the cylindrical and the spherical DIA shock waves are found to have been significantly modified in a way that depends on the intrinsic parameters (viz. electron nonextensivity, heavy-ion’s kinematic viscosity, heavy-to-light-ion number density ratio, electron-to-light-ion temperature ratio, etc.) of the considered plasma system. The characteristics of the cylindrical and the spherical DIA shock waves are observed to be qualitatively different from those of planar ones.
