The latest trend in neuromuscular monitoring: return of the electromyography

To reduce the risk of residual neuromuscular blockade, neuromuscular monitoring must be performed. Acceleromyography (AMG)-based neuromuscular monitoring was regarded as “clinical gold standard” and widely applied. However, issues related to patient’s posture and overestimation of train-of-four ratio associated with AMG-based neuromuscular monitoring have increased. Recently, electromyography (EMG)-based neuromuscular monitoring is receiving renewed attention, since it overcomes AMG’s weaknesses. However, both AMG-based and EMG-based systems are useful when certain considerations are followed. Ultimately, to assure the patient’s good outcomes, the choice of monitoring system is not as important as the monitoring itself, which should be always implemented in such patients.

Clocks for time synchronization using radio signals such as global navigation satellite system (GNSS) may lose reference signals by intentional or unintentional jamming. This is called as holdover. When holdover occurs, a clock goes into free run in which synchronization performance is degraded considerably. In order to maintain the required precise time synchronization during holdover, accurate estimation on main parameters such as frequency offset and frequency drift is needed. It is necessary to implement an optimum filter through various simulation tests by creating clock noise in accordance with given specifications in order to estimate the main parameters accurately. In this paper, a method that creates clock noise in accordance with given specifications is described.
Fast motion estimation algorithm based on adaptive search range decision

The motion estimation in video codec is very important because motion estimation has decisive effect on encoding time and video quality. The most fundamental motion estimation method is Full Search algorithm. Although Full Search algorithm shows the best video quality, computation complexity is extremely increased. Thus, a variety of fast motion estimation algorithms have been proposed to reduce the complexity and maintain the high video quality. In this paper, we propose the new method that changes the search range using Sum of Absolute Difference between macroblock of current frame and macroblock at the same position of previous frame. According to experimental results, our proposed algorithm showed in the average of 0.03 ㏈ PSNR degradations and the computational complexity was 139 times less than FS.

Collagen- based cell-printing technology has provided a new strategy for tissue engineering. However, although collagen-based scaffolds can provide an outstanding biofunctional benefits, their low mechanical strength and poor controllability have been limitation for their usage as hard tissue regeneration. To overcome this limitation, α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) has been used for biomedical scaffolds. α-TCP is biocompatible and soluble material, and hydrolyzed rapidly to calcium-deficient hydroxyapatite which makes α-TCP a useful material for bone tissue regeneration. in this study, we fabricate 3-dimensional (3D) scaffold based on α-TCP/collagen struts coated with collagen-based bioink. To compare the physical and cellular activities, we used a scaffold composed of α-TCP/collagen scaffold coated with cell-embedded collagen. Following fabrication of the cell (MC3T3-E1)-embedded a-TCP/collagen scaffold, the cellular activities were evaluated in vitro.
