There is an increasing interest in research to help overcome the energy crisis that has been focused on energy storage applications in various parts of power systems. Energy storage systems are good at enhancing the reliability or improving the efficiency of a power system by creating a time gap between the generation and the consumption of power. As a contribution to the various applications of storage devices, this paper describes a novel algorithm that determines the power and storage capacity of selected energy storage devices in order to improve upon railroad system efficiency. The algorithm is also demonstrated by means of simulation studies for the Korean railroad lines now in service. A part of this novel algorithm includes the DC railroad powerflow algorithm that considers the mobility of railroad vehicles, which is necessary because the electric railroad system has a distinct distribution system where the location and power of vehicles are not fixed values. In order to derive a more accurate powerflow result, this algorithm has been designed to consider the rail voltage as well as the feeder voltage for calculating the vehicle voltage. By applying the resultant control scheme, the charging or discharging within a specific voltage boundary, energy savings and a substation voltage stabilization using storage devices are achieved at the same time.
전기철도 회생에너지 활용 극대화를 위한 에너지 저장장치 최적 동작 전압 결정 알고리즘에 관한 연구

In this paper, the optimized charging-discharging scheme for energy storage systems (ESSs) on the railway systems are presented to enhance the energy efficiency around the Korean suburban railway systems. To coordinate the control of ESSs, continuous de railway loadflow analysis considering ESSs has been performed with the real railway operation data. First, the total amount of charged energy with the specific charging voltage is calculated. Then the discharging voltages are calculated with the optimization algorithm to discharge all amounts of charged energy. To verify the effects of the boundary variation, case studies for Seoul Metro Line had been performed. Consequently, the energy efficiency is enhanced and the storage capacity is optimized with the operation boundary optimization algorithm.

본 논문은 철도부하의 이동을 고려한 전력조류계산 알고리즘에 기반하여, 에너지 저장장치를 설치하였을 때 철도계통의 영향 해석에 관한 논문이다. 철도부하는 위치적 변화 뿐 만 아니라 기동-타행-제동의 운전모드의 변화에 따라 전력소비 패턴이 달라지는데, 제동 시에 발생하는 회생에너지를 에너지 저장장치를 이용하여 활용함으로서 에너지 절감 효과 및 가선전압 안정화를 구현할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 서울지하철 2호선의 실계통에 대한 사례연구를 수행하여, 실계통에 에너지 저장장치를 적용함으로서 그 필요성을 증명하였다.

This paper presents a novel fault location scheme on Korean AC electric railway systems. On AC railway system, because there is a long distance, 40 ㎞ or longer, between two railway substations, a fault location technique is very important. Since the fault current flows through the catenary system, the catenary system must be modeled exactly to analyze fault current magnitude and fault location. In this paper, before suggestion for the novel scheme of fault location, a 9-conductor modeling technique that includes boost wires and impedance bonds is introduced, based on the characteristics of Korean AC electric railway. After obtaining a 9-conductor modeling, the railway system is constructed for computer simulation by using PSCAD/EMTDC. By case studies, we can verify superiority of a new fault location scheme and suggest a powerful model for fault analysis on electric railway systems.

목적: 크기가 매우 큰 맥락막 흑색종에서 안구적출술을 시행하지 않고, 국소절제술 및 근접 방사선 치료를 동시에 시행하여 성공적으로 치료한 증례를 보고하고자 한다. 증례요약: 48세 여환이 2개월 전부터 우안의 코 쪽 시야가 가려져 보이는 증상 주소로 내원하였다. 우안 최대교정시력 0.6, 안저 절반이상을 가리는 버섯 모양의 검은 맥락막 종괴 소견 확인되었다. 자기공명영상검사상 종양의 크기는 기저 17.1 mm, 높이 14.2 mm였으며 전신적 전이는 확인되지 않았다. 안구를 보존하며 종양의 제거를 위해 전신마취하 부분층판 공막절제술 및 동시 근접 방사선 치료를 시행하였다. 수술 6주 후 유리체절제술 및 백내장수술, 실리콘오일 주입술, 메토트렉세이트 안내 주사술 시행하였다. 방사선 망막병증 예방을 위해 2개월 간격으로 유리체강 내 베바시주맙 주입술을 시행하였다. 수술 후 2년째, 시력 0.01, 안압 14로 안정적인 양상보이며 종양 재발 및 전이 없이 경과 관찰 중이다. 결론: 매우 큰 크기의 맥락막 흑색종 치료를 위해 안구적출술을 시행하지 않고, 수술적 방법이 까다롭지만 흑색종의 국소절제술 및근접 방사선 치료를 통해 안구를 보존하면서도 성공적으로 치료할 수 있다. Purpose: We report successful eyeball-preserving management of a patient with a large choroidal melanoma. We combined partial lamellar sclerouvectomy (PLSU) with ruthenium (Ru)-106 plaque brachytherapy. Case summary: A 48-year-old woman with a history of asthma visited our clinic with a chief complaint of gradual loss of vision at the nasal side of her right eye (best-corrected visual acuity 0.6). Fundus examination revealed a mushroom-shaped, dark choroidal mass 17.1 mm (basal diameter) × 14.2 mm (apical height). There was no evidence of distant metastasis. To remove the tumor while preserving the eyeball, we combined PLSU and simultaneous Ru-106 plaque brachytherapy with the patient under hypotensive general anesthesia. At 6 weeks postoperatively, trans pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil injection was performed to remove the vitreous hemorrhage and treat the retinal detachment. Intravitreal bevacizumab (Avastin, Genentech Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA) (0.05 mL, 1.25 mg) was injected every 2 months to prevent the development of radiation retinopathy. No residual tumor, recurrence, or distant metastasis was noted during follow-up of 2 years. The patient was stable with no ocular complications at her last visit (2 years postoperatively). Conclusions: Contrary to what we expected and despite the surgical difficulties, PLSU combined with Ru-106 plaque brachytherapy is a useful eyeball-preserving strategy even when encountering a very large choroidal melanoma (diameter > 16 mm and apical height > 10 mm). Such a melanoma was previously believed to be treatable only via enucleation.
A Study for DC 1500V Railroad System Modeling Using EMTDC

This paper is about modeling on 1500V DC electric railroad system. Electric railroad systems have peculiar characteristics against other electric system. The characteristics arc that the railroad systems have electric vehicle loads which arc power-varying and location-varying with time. Because of this load characteristic, the electric railroad system modeling which reflects its own characteristics on EMTDC simulation could not be achieved. However, to reflect load characteristic on EMTDC, this paper suggests electric railroad system modeling by using TPS (Train Performance Simulator) that was developed in Korea Railroad Research Institute. A TPS program has various kinds of input data, such as operation condition, vehicle condition, and power system condition. By these data, TPS calculates mechanical power consumption and location, especially it decide electric power consumption on the basis of the fact that consumed electric and mechanical power are equal. Moreover, on this paper, movement of vehicle is reflected on EMTDC simulation as variation of feeder impedance. Also, an electric vehicle load is modeled as time-varying constant power load model.

<P>This paper proposes an application of superconducting flywheel energy storages (SFESs) to compensate the power fluctuation of the large scale wind farm. Based on the global interest against global warming, the power capacity of the renewable generation, especially wind generation, has been increased steeply. However, since wind generations depend on the natural wind speed completely, the power output cannot be controlled. The power fluctuation caused by the non-controllable output characteristic may create voltage problem for local system and frequency problem for whole power system. To solve those problems, the hybrid application of the large-capacity battery energy storage system (BESS) and the high-speed superconducting flywheel energy storage system (SFES) are considered in Heangwon wind farm in Cheju Island in Korea. Through the case studies based on the site-measured output data, the optimal power and energy capacity of the BESSs and SFES are figured out.</P>
