      • Structural Changes Associated with Delayed Dark Adaptation in Age-Related Macular Degeneration

        Lains, I.,Miller, J.B.,Park, D.H.,Tsikata, E.,Davoudi, S.,Rahmani, S.,Pierce, J.,Silva, R.,Chen, T.C.,Kim, I.K.,Vavvas, D.,Miller, J.W.,Husain, D. Published for the American Academy of Ophthalmolog 2017 Ophthalmology Vol.124 No.9

Purpose: To examine the relationship between dark adaptation (DA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based macular morphology in age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Design: Prospective, cross-sectional study. Participants: Patients with AMD and a comparison group (>50 years) without any vitreoretinal disease. Methods: All participants were imaged with spectral-domain OCT and color fundus photographs, and then staged for AMD (Age-related Eye Disease Study system). Both eyes were tested with the AdaptDx (MacuLogix, Middletown, PA) DA extended protocol (20 minutes). A software program was developed to map the DA testing spot (2o circle, 5o superior to the fovea) to the OCT B-scans. Two independent graders evaluated the B-scans within this testing spot, as well as the entire macula, recording the presence of several AMD-associated abnormalities. Multilevel mixed-effects models (accounting for correlated outcomes between 2 eyes) were used for analyses. Main Outcome Measures: The primary outcome was rod-intercept time (RIT), defined in minutes, as a continuous variable. For subjects unable to reach RIT within the 20 minutes of testing, the value of 20 was assigned. Results: We included 137 eyes (n = 77 subjects), 72.3% (n = 99 eyes) with AMD and the remainder belonging to the comparison group. Multivariable analysis revealed that even after adjusting for age and AMD stage, the presence of any abnormalities within the DA testing spot (sz = 4.8, P < 0.001), as well as any abnormalities in the macula (sz = 2.4, P = 0.047), were significantly associated with delayed RITs and therefore impaired DA. In eyes with no structural changes within the DA testing spot (n = 76, 55.5%), the presence of any abnormalities in the remaining macula was still associated with delayed RITs (sz = 2.00, P = 0.046). Presence of subretinal drusenoid deposits and ellipsoid zone disruption were a consistent predictor of RIT, whether located within the DA testing spot (P = 0.001 for both) or anywhere in the macula (P < 0.001 for both). Within the testing spot, the presence of classic drusen or serous pigment epithelium detachment was also significantly associated with impairments in DA (P @? 0.018). Conclusions: Our results suggest a significant association between macular morphology evaluated by OCT and time to dark-adapt. Subretinal drusenoid deposits and ellipsoid zone changes seem to be strongly associated with impaired dark adaptation.

Leakage Flow Influence on SHF pump model performances

        Annie-Claude Bayeul-Lainé,Patrick Dupont,Antoine Dazin,Gérard Bois,Olivier Roussette,Qiaorui Si 한국유체기계학회 2015 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.8 No.4

This paper deals with the influence of leakage flow existing in SHF pump model on the analysis of internal flow behaviour inside the vane diffuser of the pump model performance using both experiments and calculations. PIV measurements have been performed at different hub to shroud planes inside one diffuser channel passage for a given speed of rotation and various flow rates. For each operating condition, the PIV measurements have been trigged with different angular impeller positions. The performances and the static pressure rise of the diffuser were also measured using a three-hole probe. The numerical simulations were carried out with Star CCM+ 9.06 code (RANS frozen and unsteady calculations). Some results were already presented at the XXth IAHR Symposium for three flowrates for RANS frozen and URANS calculations. In the present paper, comparisons between URANS calculations with and without leakages and experimental results are presented and discussed for these flow rates. The performances of the diffuser obtained by numerical calculations are compared to those obtained by the three-holes probe measurements. The comparisons show the influence of fluid leakages on global performances and a real improvement concerning the efficiency of the diffuser, the pump and the velocity distributions. These results show that leakage is an important parameter that has to be taken into account in order to make improved comparisons between numerical approaches and experiments in such a specific model set up.

Static pressure recovery analysis in the vane island diffuser of a centrifugal pump

        Qiaorui Si,Patrick Dupont,Annie-Claude Bayeul-Lainé,Antoine Dazin,Olivier Roussette,Gérard Bois 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.2

The overall performance of a vane-island type diffuser of a centrifugal pump model was obtained by means of directional probe traverses. These measurements were performed in an air model of a real hydraulic pump for five volume flow rates. Directional probe traverses are performed with a classical three-hole probe to cover most of the complete inlet section of the diffuser from hub to shroud and from pressure to suction side. Existing Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurement results are also used to compare probe measurement results between the inlet and outlet throats of vane island diffuser at mid-span. Some assistance from already existing unsteady calculation, including leakage effects, is used to evaluate the numerical approach capability and to correctly define the mean initial conditions at impeller’s outlet section. Pressure recovery and the measured total pressure loss levels inside this particular vane diffuser geometry are then calculated. Detailed analysis of the flow structure at the inlet section of the vane island diffuser is presented to focus on pressure evolution inside the entire diffuser section for different flow rates. The combined effects of incidence angle and blockage distributions along hub to shroud direction are found to play an important role on loss distribution in such a diffuser.

      • A Novel Technique for Real-Time Internet Radio Recorder on Non-DSP Embedded System

        Lain-Jinn Hwang,Chien-Chou Shih,I-Ting Kuo 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.3 No.3

The capability of providing real-time multimedia player over the Internet is an important future application for embedded system. However, the main challenge of such an application is the limitation on computation performance and memory size in architecture of embedded system, especially while encoding and decoding. In this paper, a Streaming Packet Tracer (SPT) algorithm is proposed for real-time tracing the streaming packet header. Based on the SPT algorithm, we present a novel software-based technique which enables a non-DSP embedded system to play and record real-time streaming audio simultaneously. To verify the feasibility of the proposed technique, a real-time Internet radio recorder has been implemented on SBC-2410x embedded system successfully. The experimental results show that our achievement has reduced the CPU usage rate from over 100% to about 30%-40% in comparison with other recording method.

The Link between Suicidality and Electroencephalography Asymmetry: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Laine B. Butler,Kate B. Nooner 대한정신약물학회 2023 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.21 No.3

As one of the leading causes of death globally, suicide has been researched extensively to better understand factors that confer risk or resilience for suicidality. Promising areas of the literature have focused on brain-based factors that might indicate susceptibility to suicide. Some studies have investigated the link between electroencephalography (EEG) asymmetry, referring to differences in electrical activity in the brain from the left to right hemisphere, and suicidality. The present study is a comprehensive review and meta-analysis of the literature to see if certain patterns in EEG asymmetry serve as a diathesis for suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The results of the current investigation found that EEG asymmetry was not systematically related to suicide based on the literature reviewed. While the present review does not rule out all brain-based factors, the findings suggest that EEG asymmetry may not be a biomarker for suicidality.

Zero distribution of some delay-differential polynomials

        Ilpo Laine,Zinelaabidine Latreuch 대한수학회 2020 대한수학회보 Vol.57 No.6

Let $f$ be a meromorphic function of finite order $\rho$ with few poles in the sense $S_{\lambda}(r,f):=O(r^{\lambda +\varepsilon})+S(r,f)$, where $\lambda <\rho$ and $\varepsilon \in (0,\rho-\lambda)$, and let $g(f):=\sum_{j=1}^{k}b_{j}(z)f^{(k_j)}(z+c_{j})$ be a linear delay-differential polynomial of $f$ with small meromorphic coefficients $b_{j}$ in the sense $S_{\lambda}(r,f)$. The zero distribution of $f^{n}(g(f))^{s}-b_{0}$ is considered in this paper, where $b_0$ is a small function in the sense $S_{\lambda}(r,f)$.
