Objective Patients are often transported within the hospital, especially in cases of critical illness for which computed tomography (CT) is performed. Since increased transport time increases the risks of complications, reducing transport time is important for patient safety. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of our newly invented device, the Easy Tube Arrange Device (ETAD), to reduce transport time for CT evaluation in cases of critical illness. Methods This prospective randomized control study included 60 volunteers. Each participant arranged five or six intravenous fluid lines, monitoring lines (noninvasive blood pressure, electrocardiography, central venous pressure, arterial catheter), and therapeutic equipment (O2 supply device, Foley catheter) on a Resusci Anne mannequin. We measured transport time for the CT evaluation by using conventional and ETAD method. Results The median transport time for CT evaluation was 488.50 seconds (95% confidence interval [CI], 462.75 to 514.75) and, 503.50 seconds (95% CI, 489.50 to 526.75) with 5 and 6 fluid lines using the conventional method and 364.50 seconds (95% CI, 335.00 to 388.75), and 363.50 seconds (95% CI, 331.75 to 377.75) with ETAD (all P<0.001). The time differences were 131.50 (95% CI, 89.25 to 174.50) and 148.00 (95% CI, 116.00 to 177.75) (all P<0.001). Conclusion The transport time for CT evaluation was reduced using the ETAD, which would be expected to reduce the complications that may occur during transport in cases of critical illness.
Female-to-Male Proportions of the Head and Face in Koreans

It is well known that the head and face are smaller in female subjects than in male subjects. However, almost all previous studies have quantified the size difference between female and male subjects as simple numerical values, which might not clarify the difference. The present study evaluated the female-to-male proportions of the head and face so as to clarify the sex-related differences. A total of 1939 female subjects and 1398 male subjects were divided into 3 age groups: young (20-39 y), middle-aged (40-59 y), and elderly (60-79 y). The dimensions were classified into 3 categories: 5 cephalic, 3 frontal facial, and 6 lateral facial. The female-to-male proportions of individual dimensions were compared in the 3 age groups using the following formula: female measurement value × 100/(mean of male measurement value). The female-to-male proportions of the cephalic dimension increased with age, with the female cephalic dimensions overall being about 96% of the male cephalic dimensions. The female-to-male proportions of the frontal facial dimension were constant across the age groups, with the female frontal facial dimensions overall being 95% of the male frontal facial dimensions. The female lateral facial dimension increased markedly from the young to middle-aged group and was constant or decreased slightly from the middle-aged to the elderly group. Overall, the female lateral facial dimensions were approximately 97% of the male lateral facial dimensions. The present study will suggest a new approach to elucidate those sex-related dimensional differences that are characteristic of female and male subjects.

<P>DNA polymerase (pol) κ, one of the Y-family polymerases, has been shown to function in error-free translesion DNA synthesis (TLS) opposite the bulky <I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-guanyl DNA lesions induced by many carcinogens such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. We analyzed the biochemical properties of eight reported human pol κ variants positioned in the polymerase core domain, using the recombinant pol κ (residues 1–526) protein and the DNA template containing an <I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-CH<SUB>2</SUB>(9-anthracenyl)G (<I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-AnthG). The truncation R219X was devoid of polymerase activity, and the E419G and Y432S variants showed much lower polymerase activity than wild-type pol κ. In steady-state kinetic analyses, E419G and Y432S displayed 20- to 34-fold decreases in <I>k</I><SUB>cat</SUB>/<I>K</I><SUB>m</SUB> for dCTP insertion opposite G and <I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-AnthG compared to that of wild-type pol κ. The L21F, I39T, and D189G variants, as well as E419G and Y432S, displayed 6- to 22-fold decreases in <I>k</I><SUB>cat</SUB>/<I>K</I><SUB>m</SUB> for next-base extension from C paired with <I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-AnthG, compared to that of wild-type pol κ. The defective Y432S variant had 4- to 5-fold lower DNA-binding affinity than wild-type, while a slightly more efficient S423R variant possessed 2- to 3-fold higher DNA-binding affinity. These results suggest that R219X abolishes and the E419G, Y432S, L21F, I39T, and D189G variations substantially impair the TLS ability of pol κ opposite bulky <I>N</I><SUP>2</SUP>-G lesions in the insertion step opposite the lesion and/or the subsequent extension step, raising the possibility that certain nonsynonymous pol κ genetic variations translate into individual differences in susceptibility to genotoxic carcinogens.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/crtoec/2014/crtoec.2014.27.issue-5/tx500072m/production/images/medium/tx-2014-00072m_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/tx500072m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
인적자원관리측면에서의 부산신발산업 발전방안에 관한 연구

신발산업의 경우 인적자원관리의 성과가 매우 폐쇄적이며, 그 실행도 경영자의 경험적ㆍ주관적 관점에서 이루어지고 있어 이에 대한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 또한 인적자원의 효율적 관리에 관한 그 동안의 연구는 거의 없었고, 또한 있었다 하더라도 주로 인적자원관리 기능 내의 보상 분야와 그 유효성, 그리고 영향요인 등이 연구의 주류를 이루었다. 지금까지 신발산업에서의 인재선발 및 채용은 관행적으로 특정인이 어떤 분야에 유능하다는 식의 인적소개를 통해 개별접촉을 통해 이루어져 왔고, 인적자원관리 역시 시스템화되지 못하고 주먹구구식으로 이루어져 왔다. 이렇게 인력관리가 이루어지다 보니 제대로 된 인력관리는 어렵게 되었고, 또한 많은 사람들이 제대로 자신의 능력을 평가받지 못하는 경우가 많아 내부적으로 직무만족과 조직몰입에 많은 문제를 내포하게 되었다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구에서는 과거의 인력관리실태를 벗어나 현재 우리나라 신발산업의 인적자원관리 특성이 어떠한지를 고찰하여 이에 대한 개선방안을 마련하고자 한다. In footwear industry, outcome of human resources management is very exclusive. Also, the managing practice is performed by manager"s subjective experience, so researches on this subject is very rare. Moreover, there has been almost no research on efficiency in managing human resources. Even though there has, the studies have been mainly about compensation parts, effectiveness, and causes of influence in functions of human resources management. So far, selecting and employing human resources has been accomplished by individual contacts through introducing, habitually, by saying certain person is capable for certain parts. Also management of human resources has been practiced without proper rules or systems. Such type of managing human resources resulted in difficulties. Many people have been underestimated from their capacity and involved with many problems in term of satisfaction and concentration in work. From such a point of view, this study tries to escape from the realities of existing management of human resources, investigates characters of managing human resources in domestic footwear industry, and prepares development plans for this.<BR> Like this, management of human resources can be accomplished efficiently when the CEO recognizes importance of human resources, develop and nourish human resources in a connection to management strategy, and operate an organization by decentralization and self-regulating, not by authoritarianism of CEO. Also, in management of human resources in footwear industry strategic approach should be made, and development and nourishment plans should be prepared in establishing strategic plans. Also, I think a conversion of thought in managers is required for more systematized human resources management.

This study investigated the impacts of gelatin hydrolysate addition on the technological properties and lipid oxidation stability of cooked sausage. Gelatin hydrolysate was prepared from pork and duck skin gelatin, through stepwise hydrolysis using collagenase and pepsin. The cooked sausages were formulated without gelatin (control) or with 1% pork skin gelatin, 1% duck skin gelatin, 1% pork skin gelatin hydrolysate, and 1% duck skin gelatin hydrolysate. The pH, color characteristics, protein solubility, cooking loss, and textural properties of cooked sausages were evaluated, and the 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) value was measured weekly to determine lipid oxidation stability during 4 wk of refrigerated storage. Enzymatic hydrolysis of gelatin decreased protein content and CIE L* but increased redness and yellowness (p<0.05). When 1% gelatin or gelatin hydrolysate was incorporated in cooked sausage, however, little to no impacts on pH value, moisture content, protein content, color characteristics, protein solubility, and cooking loss were found (p>0.05). The addition of 1% duck skin gelatin hydrolysate increased the cohesiveness and chewiness of cooked sausages. The inclusion of 1% duck skin gelatin accelerated lipid oxidation of cooked sausages during refrigerated storage (p<0.05), whereas duck skin gelatin hydrolysate caused a lower TBARS value in cooked sausage compared to duck skin gelatin. The results show comparable effects of gelatin and gelatin hydrolysate addition on the technological properties of cooked sausages; however, the oxidative stability of raw materials for gelatin extraction should be evaluated clearly in further studies.

<P>Nonlinear transport is intensively explained through Poole-Frenkel (PF) transport mechanism in organic thin film transistors with solution-processed small molecules, which is, 6,13bis( triisopropylsilylethynyl) (TIPS) pentacene. We outline a detailed electrical study that identifies the source to drain field dependent mobility. Devices with diverse channel lengths enable the extensive exhibition of field dependent mobility due to thermal activation of carriers among traps.</P>
