Among the school gymnastics facilities, perhaps the most common ones are gymnastics apparatus. That's why a historic study in the event of havy gymnastics is required. The researchers here have examined the origin of gymnastics with apparatus centered on Jahn's "turen" exercise. The results are as follows : 1. Heavy gymnastics originally contained a lot of elements from field and track events. It had aims of obtaining natural physical movement and enhancing work efficiency. 2. An outdoor event turnen was banned and changed into an inddor event. The fact that apparatus gymnastics is nowadays held indoors reveals the decisive influnece of Jahn's turnen exercise. 3. Jahn's balance beam exercise was at first played for the purpose of blancing oneself and merely for fun. It has developed into the present from through wide distribution and elaboration. 4. Jahn first used the term of parallel bars and the present women's event of parallel bars resembles Jahn's. 5. Jahn's horizontal bars have also had a great effect on today's event of horizontal bars.

상완골 원위부 과간 골절은 소아에서는 매우 드물게 발생되는 골절로 대부분 주관절의 굴곡상태로 주관절 후방부에 직접적인 충격에 의해 발생하는 것으로 보고되고 있다. 전위가 없거나 경미한 경우 도수적 정복술 혹은 도수적 정복술 후 경피적 핀고정술을 시행하며, 전위가 심한 골절이거나 도수적 정복술이 불가능한 경우 관혈적 정복술 후 핀고정술을 시행하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 저자들은 전위된 상완골 원위부 과간 골절 환아 2예에서 각각 도수적 정복술과 관혈적 정복술 후 K 강선 고정술을 시행하여 만족한 결과를 얻었기에 보고하는 바이다. Intercondylar fractures of the distal humerus are very rare in children. The pattern of the fracture would suggest that the mechanism of injury involves a fall directly on the flexed elbow. Most agree that the undisplaced fracture can be managed conservatively. With increasing displacement and comminution, the opinions tend to differ. We suggest that closed reduction with percutaneous K wire pinning and open reduction with percutaneous K wire pinning offer a satisfactory methods by which to treat displaced intercondylar fracture in children.
성견 치은에서 90% Phenol을 이용한 멜라닌 색소의 제거에 관한 연구

In this present study, the healing process and the recurrence of pigmentation were evaluated clinically and histologically in accordance with the extent and the range of pigmentation after phenol was applied to remove melanin pigmentation in gingiva. Six mongrel dogs were used. The melanin pigmentation in canine gingiva were classified into slight, moderate, and severe according to the extent of pigmentation and divided into local and diffuse types according to the range. Following general and local anesthesia, 90% phenol was applied to the pigmented gingiva of the subjects with small cotton balls until the surface was etched to be whitish and was neutralized with small cotton balls soaked by 95% alcohol. The contralateral pigmented gingiva to the one treated with phenol, was treated by surgical deepithelialization. At1, 3, and 8 weeks, the treated gingiva was examined clinically and evaluated histologically following H-E stain, and HMB 45 stain for melanocyte after biopsy. In the phenol treated sites, epithelium and connective tissue healed normally and there was no pigmentation at 1 week. At 3 weeks of healing, melanin repigmentation was observed in the severe local type and moderate to severe diffuse type. In the surgically deepithelialized sites, healing was delayed, compared to phenol treated sites and the infiltration of the inflammatory cells and congestion in connective tissue was shown at 1 week. At 3 weeks, healing was completed and there was a partial melanin repigmentation. At 8 weeks of healing, the extent and the range of repigmentation were increased in both group according to the extent or range priot to depigmentation procedure. These results suggest that the removal of melanin pigmentation with 90% phenol application result in normal healing process of gingiva. However, in the severe local type and moderate to severe diffuse type, sites treated with phenol showed repigmentation at 3 week, which was earlier than surgical deepithelialized sites. Therefore it is required to select appropriate method according to initial condition of pigmentation.
Oxidations of Cyclohexanols by N-Bromosuccinimide and Sodium Hypochlorite

The axial alcohol in trans-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol was oxidized more readily than the equatorial alcohol in cis-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol by NBS in aqueous dioxane. On the contrary, the equatorial alcohol was preferentially oxidized to the axial one by 10% aqueous sodium hypochlorite in the presence of tetrabutylammonium hydrogen sulfate (TBHS). The specificity indicates the presence of two different mechanism. In acidic medium, the cleavage of C-H bond is rate determining step while the reactivity of the alcohol is important in the presence of TBHS. The mechanism in basic medium without TBHS will be discussed.

During the synthesis of 4-fluorobenzaldehyde via the SNAr reaction of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde with TBAF, it was found that an equivalent amount of TBAF could oxidize benzaldehyde to benzoic acid. The reaction of 4-nitrobenzaldehyde with tetrabutylammonium fluoride (TBAF) gave 4-nitrobenzoic acid in high yield. Depending on the reaction conditions, other aromatic aldehydes produced acids with fewer amounts of alcohols. However, this type of oxidation has limited practical applications. Nevertheless, the mechanism is quite different from the Cannizzaro reaction because the amounts of the acid salt and alcohol formed were different.
