Fabrication of $SrZrO-3$-based Proton Conductors and Their Characterization

The Y- or Yb-doped SrZrO$_3$ proton conductors were fabricated using the powders prepared by the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). The electrical conductivity was evaluated from an a.c. impedance measurements. The conductivity of SrZr$_{0.92}$Yb$_{0.08}$O$_{3-\delta}$ was 1.8$\times$10$^{-3}$ Scm$^{-1}$ at $900^{\circ}C$ in dry air atmosphere and its activation energy was 0.50 eV. The conductivity in wet air was larger, compared with the dry air, and the activaton energy of SrZr$_{0.92}$Yb$_{0.08}$O$_{3-\delta}$ in wet air was 0.40 eV.
A Novel Implantable Cerebrospinal Fluid Reservoir : A Pilot Study

Objective : The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the safety and function of the newly developed cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) reservoir called the V-Port. Methods : The newly developed V-Port consists of a non-collapsible reservoir outlined with a titanium cage and a connector for the ventricular catheter to be assembled. It is designed to be better palpated and more durable to multiple punctures than the Ommaya reservoir. A total of nine patients diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis were selected for V-Port insertion. Each patient was followed up for evaluation for a month after the operation. Results : The average operation time for V-Port insertion was 42 minutes and the average incision size was 6.6 cm. The surgical technique of V-Port insertion was found to be intuitive by all neurosurgeons who participated in the pilot study. There was no obstruction or leakage of the V-Port during intrathecal chemotherapy or CSF drainage. Also, there were no complications including post-operative intracerebral hemorrhage, infection and skin problems related to the V-Port. Conclusion : V-Port is a safe and an easy to use implantable CSF reservoir that addresses problems of other implantable CSF reservoirs. Further multicenter clinical trial is needed to prove the safety and the function of the V-Port.

The Alaska pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus) belongs to the family Gadidae; it is a cold water fish, and has been developed as a novel aquaculture species in Korea. In this study, we describe ongoing surveillance for aquatic animal pathogens based on growth stages. We investigated bacterial flora in rearing water, and monitored pathogens; we also analyzed histopathological traits of abnormal fish. In rearing water, the total bacterial counts were 2.1×10<sup>3</sup> cfu/mL and Vibrio spp. (52%) were predominant in the larvae stage. In the juvenile and adult stages, the total bacterial counts were 3.4×10<sup>3</sup> and 3.2×10<sup>2</sup> cfu/mL, respectively (with Pseudomonas sp. as the predominant species; 90% and 52%). This result revealed that the bacterial flora in rearing water changed depending on the feeding types. No virulent-bacteria or problematic viruses (VHSV, viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus; NNV, nervous necrosis virus; MBV, marine birnavirus) were detected from outwardly healthy fish using either culture or PCR assay. Some juveniles (less than 5%) had gas bubbles on the gill lamellae, degeneration of the corneal epithelium, and choroid gland degeneration, suggesting that these symptoms were caused by external injury and secondary infection by opportunistic bacteria. Disease management is important to cope with disease emergence in the novel aquaculture species Alaska pollock.

The purpose of this researeh was to investigate the common delinquencies commiled by Taekwondo players and non-players of high school and to provide basis data in support. The subjects were 800 students : Including 184 taekwondo players at athletic high school(129 boys,55 girls), 211 non-players at high schools(152 boys, 59 girls) in Seoul. 195 taekwondo players at athletic high schools(154 boys, 41 girls), 210 non-players at high schools(l50 boys, 60 girls)in Incheon. They were compared and analysed. in aspects of sex, father`` s jobs and education, amount of pocket money, careers as a player, and winning prizes. They were also compared and analysed in the aspect of violations of public rules, properties, status, personal relationship, and seclusion according to the type of delinquency. Data was collected through questionnaires and self-administration method and analysed according to one-way ANOVA The conclusions were as follows: 1. The level of delinquency depended on mediate variables. 1) Male students showed a higher frequency of delinquency in public rules, status, seclusion, properties, and personal relationship. 2) The higher the father``s job the greater the frequency of delinquency Professional work, administrative work, sales, sales, etc, blue color, clerical work in sequence. 3) Father``s education had no effect on delinquency. 4) Statistics showed. that the more pocket money, the higher the frequency of delinquency.(according to the following order: over 160.000 won, less 160.000 won ~ over 120.000 won, less 120.000 won ~ over 80.000 won, over 40.000 won -less 80.000 won, less 40.000 won). 2. The level of delinquency depending on taekwondo players and non-players showed made no difference. 1) Public rules between taekwondo players and non-players showed taekwondo players had a higher frequency of delinquency than non-players. 2) Property hetween taekwondo players and non-players showed made no difference. 3) Status between taekwondo players and non-pLayers showed made no difference. 4) The personal relationship between taekwondo players and non-players showed made no difference. 5) Seclusion between taekwondo pLayers and non-players showed non-players had a higher frequency of delinquency than taekwondo players. 3. Careers as a taekwondo player made no difference. 4. Careers of winning prizes as a taekwondo player had no effect on public rules, property, personal relationship, and seclusion except for status.

Spatio-temporal projection of evapotranspiration over croplands would be useful for assessment of climate change impact and development of adaptation strategies in agriculture. Potential evapotranspiration (PET) and dryness index (DI) during rice growing seasons were calculated using climate change scenario data provided by the National Institute of Meteorological Research (NIMR). A data processing tool for gridded climate data files, readGrADSWrapper, was used to calculate PET and DI during the current (1986-2005) and future (2006-2100) periods. Scripts were written to implement the formulas of PET and DI in R, which is an open source statistical data analysis tool. Evapotranspiration in rice fields ($PET_{Rice}$) was also determined using R scripts. The Spatio-temporal patterns of PET differed by regions in Korean Peninsula under current and future climate conditions. Overall, PET and $PET_{Rice}$ tended to increase throughout the $21^{st}$ century. Those results suggested that region-specific water resource managements would be needed to minimize the risk of water loss in the regions where considerable increases in PET would occur under the future climate conditions. For example, a number of provinces classified as a humid region were projected to become a sub-humid region in the future. The Spatio-temporal assessment of water resources based on PET and DI would help the development of climate change adaptation strategies for rice production in the 21st century. In addition, the studies on climate change impact would be facilitated using specialized data tools, e.g., readGrADSWrapper, for geospatial analysis of climate data.
