Numerous regulatory hormones, cytokines, and growth factors are implicated in the control of bone metabolism through action on osteocblastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation. Recently, it has been reported that nitric oxide〔NO〕is produced by osteoblasts and induction of inducible NO synthase〔iNOS〕activity is demonstrated after stimulation by lipopolysaccharide and several cytokines. NO has been postulated to be an important regulatory factor in bone metabolism. The present study was undertaken to investigate whether osteotropic hormones affect cytokine-induced NO production by using parathyroid hormone〔PTH〕and prostaglandin E_2〔PGE_2〕. The osteoblastic cell line MC3T3/E1 was cultured in α-MEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum at 37℃ in a humidified atmosphere of 5% CO_2 in air. MC3T3/E1 cells were plated in 96-well plates at a density of 2-3×10^3 cells/well in and grown to confluence. Then the cells were pretreated with osteotropic hormones〔PTH,0-400 ng/ml; PGE2, 0-500ng/ml〕in the medium supplemented with 0.4% FBS for 48hours and the cells treated with cytokines [tumor necrosis factor alpha〔TNFα〕, 0.2-5 ng/ml;interferon gamma〔IFNγ〕, 10-250 U/ml] in phenol red-free α-MEM/0.4% FBS for an additional 48 hours. No synthesis was assessed by measuring the nitrite anion concentration, a reaction product of NO, in the cell culture medium using Griess reagent. The nitrite essay showed that PTH and PGE2 slightly induce NO production without cytokines compared to the control〔0.70 nmloe/ml, control vs. 400 ng/ml PTH-treated value of 2.05 and 100 ng/ml PGE2-treated value of 1.62〕. However, osteotropic hormones induced a significant increase in NO production in the presence of 1 ng/ml TNFα and 50 U/ml IFNγ〔2.97 nmole/ml, control vs. 25 ng/ml PTH-treated value of 5.08; 7.02 nmole, control vs. 400 ng/ml PGE2-treated value of 15.12〕. Both PTH and PGE2 synergized with relatively higher concentrations〔1-5ng/ml〕of TNFα in the production, causing about 50-100% increase in nitrite. These results suggest that the actions of osteotropic hormones in bone metabolism may be partially mediated by NO in the presence of cytokines.
Regulation of Apoptosis by Nitrosative Stress
Kim, Ki-Mo,Kim, Peter K.M.,Kwon, Young-Guen,Bai, Se-Kyung,Nam, Woo-Dong,Kim, Young-Myeong Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biol 2002 Journal of biochemistry and molecular biology Vol.35 No.1
Nitrosative stress can prevent or induce apoptosis. It occurs via S-nitrosylation by the interaction of nitric oxide (NO) with the biological thiols of proteins. Cellular redox potential and non-heme iron content determine S-nitrosylation. Apoptotic cell death is inhibited by S-nitrosylation of the redox-sensitive thiol in the catalytic site of caspase family proteases, which play an essential role in the apoptotic signal cascade. Nitrosative stress can also promote apoptosis by the activation of mitochondrial apoptotic pathways, such as the release of cytochrome c, an apoptosis-inducing factor, and endonuclease G from mitochondria, as well as the suppression of NF-${\kappa}B$ activity. In this article we reviewed the mechanisms whereby S-nitrosylation and nitrosative stress regulate the apoptotic signal cascade.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Here, we identify cells within human adult secondary lymphoid tissues that are comparable in phenotype and location to the lymphoid tissue inducer (LTi) cells that persist in the adult mouse. Identified as CD117+CD3−CD56− cells, like murine LTi cells, they lack expression of many common lineage markers and express CD127, OX40L and TRANCE. These cells were detected at the interface between the B‐ and T‐ zones, as well as at the subcapsular sinus in LNs, the location where LTi cells reside in murine spleen and LNs. Furthermore, like murine LTi cells, these cells expressed high levels of IL‐22 and upregulated IL‐22 expression upon IL‐23 stimulation. Importantly, these cells were not an NK cell subset since they showed no expression of IFN‐γ and perforin. Interestingly, a subset of the CD117+CD3−CD56−OX40L+ population expressed NKp46, again similar to recent findings in mice. Finally, these cells supported memory CD4+ T‐cell survival in an OX40L‐dependent manner. Combined, these data indicate that the CD117+CD3−CD56−OX40L+ cells in human secondary lymphoid tissues are comparable in phenotype, location and function to the LTi cells that persist within adult murine secondary lymphoid tissues.</P>
Degradation of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite materials by localized charges and its polarity dependency
Kim, Min-cheol,Ahn, Namyoung,Lim, Eunhak,Jin, Young Un,Pikhitsa, Peter V.,Heo, Jiyoung,Kim, Seong Keun,Jung, Hyun Suk,Choi, Mansoo The Royal Society of Chemistry 2019 Journal of materials chemistry. A, Materials for e Vol.7 No.19
<P>Despite the excellent performance of organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials in recent years, the mechanism of their decomposition under actual operating conditions has not yet been elucidated. Herein, we elucidated the breakdown process of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite crystals and identified the polarity-dependent degradation pathway <I>via</I> localized charges by performing time-evolution measurements of the absorption spectra of perovskite films with different underlying charge transport layers and <I>ab initio</I> molecular dynamics calculations. It was found that the carrier polarity (hole-rich or electron-rich) inside the perovskite films played a critical role in the degradation rate, and the polarity-dependent degradation pathway strongly depended on the combination of the surrounding gaseous molecules. The hole-rich perovskite films degraded more rapidly than the electron-rich ones in the presence of H2O, while this degradation trend was reversed in oxygen-only ambient environments. Interestingly, the hole-rich film is extremely unstable in atmospheric air containing both H2O and O2, whereas the MAPbI3 film with excessive electrons was stable in air. An <I>ab initio</I> molecular dynamics simulation was performed to obtain the detailed degradation pathway of MAPbI3 under atmospheric conditions for different polarities of the localized charge. The simulation results are in good agreement with experimental results, and the production of Pb(OH)I predicted in our simulations is confirmed by X-ray-assisted spectroscopic measurements.</P>
Indirect-to-Direct Band Gap Transition of Si Nanosheets: Effect of Biaxial Strain
Kim, Byung-Hyun,Park, Mina,Kim, Gyubong,Hermansson, Kersti,Broqvist, Peter,Choi, Heon-Jin,Lee, Kwang-Ryeol American Chemical Society 2018 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.122 No.27
<P>The effect of biaxial strain on the band structure of two-dimensional silicon nanosheets (Si NSs) with (111), (110), and (001) exposed surfaces was investigated by means of density functional theory calculations. For all the considered Si NSs, an indirect-to-direct band gap transition occurs as the lateral dimensions of Si NSs increase; that is, increasing lateral biaxial strain from compressive to tensile always enhances the direct band gap characteristics. Further analysis revealed the mechanism of the transition which is caused by preferential shifts of the conduction band edge at a specific <I>k</I>-point because of their bond characteristics. Our results explain a photoluminescence result of the (111) Si NSs [U. Kim et al., <I>ACS Nano</I><B>2011</B>, <I>5</I>, 2176-2181] in terms of the plausible tensile strain imposed in the unoxidized inner layer by surface oxidation.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

This paper begins from recognition that Korean presbyterian churches do not rightly understanding the meaning of the Lord's Supper: participation in body of Christ. Only in that supper all korean faith communities can confirm that they are one body in the Lord and have koinonia in the sense of a communal activity even though they have different theological positions. Analysis of 1 Corinthian 11:17‐34 will be particularly important to answer our question, because it reveals explicitly a conflict between the community and its individual members which will help us to understand Paul's view of the community and the individual. This paper deals with the cause and effect of the conflict at the Lord's Supper, individual and Community: the private meal and the Lord's Supper, different groups at the Supper, and finally Paul's suggested solution: motif of koinonia. Paul's view on the individual and the community is present clearly in his letter to the Corinthians in several ways. First, Paul does not disregard the individual's role and action in the community. Second, Paul stresses habits the mutual responsibility of the individuals to each other by virtue of their corporate relationship to Christ. Paul expects the restoration of the motif of koinonia in their community meal. The motif of koinonia is connected to his other idea to solve the conflict: it is "building up." Paul's communal understanding of edification is seen most clearly in 1 Cor.14 where he treats the issue of Christian worship. Paul's principle for Christian worship is, "Let all things be done for building up." Now we can understand what he is saying, "Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor ... just as I try to please all men in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved."
AUTO-GUIDING SYSTEM FOR CQUEAN (CAMERA FOR QUASARS IN EARLY UNIVERSE)
Kim, Eun-Bin,Park, Won-Kee,Jeong, Hyeon-Ju,Kim, Jin-Young,Kuehne, John,Kim, Dong-Han,Kim, Han-Geun,Odoms, Peter S.,Chang, Seung-Hyuk,Im, Myung-Shin,Pak, Soo-Jong The Korean Astronomical Society 2011 Journal of The Korean Astronomical Society Vol.44 No.4
To perform imaging observations of optically red objects such as high redshift quasars and brown dwarfs, the Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe (CEOU) recently developed an optical CCD camera, Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN), which is sensitive at 0.7-1.1 ${\mu}m$. To enable observations with long exposures, we develop an auto-guiding system for CQUEAN. This system consists of an off-axis mirror, a baffle, a CCD camera, a motor and a differential decelerator. To increase the number of available guiding stars, we design a rotating mechanism for the off-axis guiding camera. The guiding field can be scanned along the 10 arcmin ring offset from the optical axis of the telescope. Combined with the auto-guiding software of the McDonald Observatory, we confirm that a stable image can be obtained with an exposure time as long as 1200 seconds.
