Pseudomembranous colitis, caused by altering the normal colonic flora and allowing the multiplication of Clostridium difficile, is an deleterious adverse effect of antibiotics. But it is rarely reported by rifampicin. Rifampicin is one of the first line drug in the treatment of tuberculosis and many patients are exposed to its potential adverse effects. We experienced a patient that had abdominal discomfort and hematochezia due to pseudomembranous colitis after receiving antituberculous medication, and which was probably caused by rifampicin. A 82 years old man was admitted with abdominal discomfort and hematochezia for one week. On the past history he had been diagnosed as endobronchial tuberculosis about 4 months ago. Colonoscopy revealed multiple discrete whitish mucosal lesion on rectosigmoid colon, and histologic findings were consistent with pseudomembranous colitis. The antituberculous agents were discontinued and vancomycin was administered. The patient's symptoms were resolved within several days. There was no recurrence after reinstitution of the antituberculous agents excluding rifampicin. We report here on a case of pseudomembranous colitis probably due to rifampicin.

Background : In recent years gonorrhoea has been panendemic and remains one of the most common Sexually Transmitted Diseases in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Method : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria Gonorrhoeae(PPNG), Ive have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1994, 168 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 109 (64,9% ) were PPNG. Conclustion : Our results suggests that the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is still increasing.

Periosteal osteosarcoma is a distinct entity of malignant bone tumor with characteristic clinical, morphological, and histological features within the group of juxtacortical osteosarcoma. Periosteal osteosarcoma is predominantly located in the tubular long bones, and extremely rarely involving the jaws. A case of periosteal osteosarcoma of the right mandible is presented. A 27-year-old woman complained of the gingival swelling and bleeding tendency of the right posterior mandible. Clinical examination revealed a reddish brown strawberry-like swelling on the affected mucosa, which measured 1.5㎝×1.5㎝. The tumor was located on the lingual cortex of the mandible and extended into the surrounding soft tissues. Microscopically, the tumor consisted exclusively of atypical chondroblastic cells with a small osteoblastic area. A minimal bone marrow involvement was noted and the adjacent cortex was free of tumor. These findings suggested that the tumor originated from the periosteal cambium layer, which lies between the periosteal fibrous layer and the cortex of mandible.

Objectives : Ojeoksan, originally recorded in an ancient Korean medicinal book named “Donguibogam” and has been used for the treatment of circulation disorder of blood which was called blood accumulation (血積) in Korean medicine. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate the beneficial effect of OJS on vascular inflammation in HUVECs. Methods : We evaluated the effect of OJS on the expression of cell adhesion molecules and protective role in HUVEC stimulated by TNF-α by using Western blot. Results : Pretreatment with OJS decreased the adhesion of HL-60 cells to TNF-α-induced HUVEC. OJS suppressed TNF-α-induced expression level of cell adhesion molecules such as intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1(VCAM-1), and endothelial cell selectin (E-selectin). Moreover, OJS significantly decreased TNF-α-induced production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS); and inhibited the phosphorylation of IκB-α in the cytoplasm compared to the experimental group. Pretreatment with OJS inhibited the trans-location of NF-κB p65 to the nucleus. OJS also inhibited phosphorylation of MAPKs compared to the experimental group. OJS significantly increased the protein expression of Nrf2 and HO-1. Conclusions : Ojeoksan has a protective effect on vascular inflammation, and might be a potential therapeutic agent for early atherosclerosis.

Patients die in the emergency department frequently ; however, there has been little about the incidence and cause of Emergency Department death in the emergency medicine literature. This study was conducted retrospectively to gain insight into the patients who die suddenly and unexpectedly in the Emergency Department(ED). A total of 360 patients were pronounced dead in the ED from 1991 through 1994 in Chung Ang Gil Hospital. Of the 360 patients, 309 (86%) were brought to the ED with cardiopulmonary resuscitation in progress or as do not resuscitation(DNR) patients, leaving 51(14%) patients who met the unexpected death criteria. Of the unexpected deaths, 32(62.7%) patients presented to the ED with either abnormal vital sign (24 of 32) or some alteration in consciousness (18 of 32), or both of them (10 of 56). Medical and surgical causes of death represented 47.1% (24 patients) and 15.6% (8 patients) of the unexpected deaths respectively. Trauma represented 19 (37.3%) of the unexpected deaths, with 14 of these being the result of motor vehicle collision. The yearly incidence of unexpected ED death is presented in numbers of deaths per 10,000 ED visits. In 1991, the incidence was 3.4, and in 1992, 1993 and 1994 those were 2.7, 2.2 and 2.1 respectively.
대사산물이 Dictyostelium discoideum의 성장과 분화에 미치는 영향 김

세포 분화및 성장에 영항을 주는 대사성 물질들이 D. discoideum의 성장과 분화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. D. discoideum의 생활환 중에서 단백질 함량은 Aggregation 시기에 가장 높았고, 포자시기에 가장 낮았다. 외래성 cAMP의 효과는 뚜렷하지 않았으나, Aggregation 시기에 다소 촉진 현상을 보였다. GA의 경우는 분화 전반에 걸쳐 얼마간의 촉진을 보였다. Nicotinic acid와 Caffeic acid는 성장과 분화 모두에 있어서 뚜렷한 억제작용을 나타내었다. The present experiment was investigated chemical effects of natural products on the cyto-differentiation during the life∼cycle in the cellular slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum. Some protion of the cells were taken out at each stages during the synchronous culture, and protein amount measured, and chemical effects of cAMP, GA₃, Caffeic-acid, and Nicotinic-acid were investigated. The changes in the content of protein was increased maximum level in aggregation stage and decreased markedly at the spore stage. The addition of GA₃was increased 12% growth and differentiation compared with those of basic medium, and cAMP too, increased 26%. However, Caffeic-acid and Nicotinic-acid were decreased 26%.

This study is trying to be segmented the market through the analysis the motive on foreign tourists. Through the market segmentation, we can establish the marketing strategy according to the factor, and concentrate on the special market. But, there are some limitation of the segmentation. that are the tourists' psychological motive on the travel market and samples which are not enough for the analysis.
Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior in Ultrafine Grained Low Carbon Steel

Ultrafine grained (UFG) low carbon (0.15 wt.% C) steel produced by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was tested for investigating the effect of load ratio on the fatigue crack growth rate. Fatigue crack growth resistance and threshold of UFG steel were lower than that of as-received coarse grained steel. It was attributed to the less tortuous crack path. The UFG steel exhibited slightly higher crack growth rates and a lower △K_th with an increase of R ratio. The R ratio effect on crack growth rates and △K_th was basically indistinguishable at lower load ratio (R>0.3), compared to other alloys, which indicates that contribution of the crack closure vanishes. The crack growth rate curve for UFG steel exhibited a longer linear extension to the lower growth rate regime than that for the coarse grained as-received steel.<br/>
SPSA에 근거한 Tylor 모델 근사화와 전력계통 안정화 시스템에 적용

This paper presents a Taylor model approach for a closed-loop system identification using input and output data and its application to design a power system stabilizer (PSS). The Taylor model concept is introduced as an alternative intelligent system technique to design a controller for an unknown system with input and output data only, and without the detailed knowledge of mathematical model for the system. In the Taylor model, the data used has incremental forms using backward difference operators. The parameters of the Taylor model can be obtained by the simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) method. The feasibility of the proposed method is demonstrated in a one-machine infinite-bus power system. The linear quadratic regulator (LQR) method is applied to the Taylor model to design a PSS for the system, and compared with the conventional PSS in different loading conditions and system failures such as the outage of a major transmission line or a three phase to ground fault which causes the change of the system structure
