Objective : Our purpose of this study was to evaluated the incidence of twin pregnancy with one fetal demise, predisposing factors and the maternal complications and perinatal outcomes. Patients : From January 1993 to December 1997, 5 twin pregnancy with single fetal demise after 28 weeks gestation by gestational age were observed in Soonchunhyang Kumi Hospital. Results : 1. The incidence of one fetal demise was 3.01% in twin pregnancy. 2. Maternal disseminated intravascular coagulation has not been demonstrated. 3. The predisposing factors of twin pregnancy with single fetal demise are umbilical cord torsion (40%), congenital anomaly(20%) and unknown(40%). 4. According to chorionicity, it seems that the perinatal mortality rate of monochorionic group was higher than dichorionic. Conclusion : This study suggests that monochorionic placentation is associated with increased risks of twin pregnancy with single fetal demise. But it may be partially explained due to small numbers of cases in this study.
A medium-maturing, disease resistant and good-quality rice variety Geumanbyeo

“Geumanbyeo” is a new japonica rice variety developed by the rice breeding team of National Institute of Crop Science, RDA in 2002, which was derived from a cross between SR11878-14-4-1 of good eating-quality and high yield potential, and Suweon345 of lodging tolerance and resistance to diseases. Geumanbyeo is a medium-maturing variety with heading date of August 12 on ordinary planting in the middle plain area. It has a semi-erect plant type with culm length of 82cm, erect pubescent leaf blade and slightly tough culm with good canopy architecture. Geumanbyeo has a little bit fewer tillers per hill, and more spikelets per panicle than Hwaseongbyeo. It is slightly less tolerant to the cold stress in terms of both heading delay and spikelet fertility than Hwaseongbyeo. This variety shows delayed leaf senescence and considerable tolerance to viviparous germination at ripening stage. It shows moderately resistant to leaf blast and K1 race of bacterial blight, but susceptible to virus diseases and insect pests. The milled rice of Geumanbyeo exhibits translucent, relatively clear non-glutinous endosperm and medium-short grain. It showed lower amylose content of 18.6% and similar gelatinization temperature and better palatability of cooked rice compared to Hwaseongbyeo. The milled rice yield of this variety is about 5.32 MT/ha at ordinary culture in local adaptability test for three years. 인체유암세포주 MCF-7의 형태변화와 증식에 영향을 주는 항암활성물질, MCH-201

미생물 대사산물로부터 인체유암세포주 MCF-7의 형태변화와 세포독성을 나타내는 화합물을 탐색하는 중에 Streptomyces sp. Ba16 균주를 선별하였으며, 이 균주를 배양하여 활성물질 MCH-201을 분리 정제하였다. 각종 spectroscopic data에 의한 구조분석의 결과 이 화합물은 concanamycin B로 동정하였으며 포준품과 비교하여 확인하였다. 이 화합물은 250 pg/㎖부터 2.5 ㎍/㎖의 농도에서 MCF-7 세포의 형태 변화를 유도하였으며, 5 ㎍/㎖ 이상의 농도에서는 세포독성을 나타내었다. 간암세포주인 Hepa 1c1c7 cell을 이용하여 DNA 합성과 protein 합성에 대한 영향을 조사하여 본 결과 용량의존적으로 DNA 합성을 저해하였으나 단백질 합성에는 영향을 나타내지 않았고, 또 폐암 세포주인 A 549와, 중추신경계암 세포주인 XF 498에는 강한 세포독성을 보였다. MCH-201 was isolated from the mycelium of Streptomyces sp. Ba16 as a potent effector on proliferation and morphology of human breast tumor cell line, MCF-7. Morphological change could be observed at concentration between 2.5 ㎍/㎖ and 250 pg/㎖ and showed cytotoxic effect at the concentration of more than 5 ㎍/㎖. This compound also showed inhibitory effect on DNA synthesis of hepatoma cells, Hepa 1c1c7, and strong cytotoxic effect on proliferation of human tumor cell lines, A549 and XF498.
진행성 위암 환자에서 발생한 Cisplatin에 의한 말초신경병증

Background/Aims: Since cisplatin was widely used for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer, prevention and management of its side effects have become an important issue. Among the various side effects, neurotoxicity still remains as the major dose-limiting side effect of cisplatin. To investigate the frequency and the prognostic factors of neurotoxicity associated with cisplatin- containing chemotherapy, we performed this retrospective analysis. Methods: We analyzed clinical data of 317 patients with advanced gastric cancer treated with cisplatin-containing (20 mg/m2/day, D1-5 per cycle) chemotherapy in Korea Cancer Center Hospital from 1992 to 1996. Results: Peripheral neuropathy was developed in 44 patients(13.9%; 95% C.I, 10-17.8%): 28 patients in who grade I and 16 patients in who grade II. The incidence of peripheral neuropathy was increased as the cumulative dose of cisplatin increased. Age(p=0.0458) and cumulative dose of cisplatin(p 0.0001) were significant prognostic factors for the development of peripheral neuropathy in multivariate analysis. Conclusions: Peripheral neuropathy was a side effect of cisplatin-containing chemotherapy observed frequently in patients with advanced gastric cancer. Its development was closely related with cumulative cisplatin dose and patient's age. Once peripheral neuropathy developed clinically, it did not improve in most patients even after the administration cisplatin was discontinued.

In this study, the concrete compressive strength estimation system Concrete IoT Management System (hereinafter referred to as CIMS) was developed, and CIMS was applied to domestic field structure slabs and wall concrete to check whether CIMS is practically available and to estimate the accuracy of the initial strength estimation of concrete. As a result, it shows a very high correlation when the compressive strength of the specimen for structural management is compared with the estimated strength of CIMS in terms of integrated temperature, and it is expected to be gradually applied to domestic construction sites in the future.

In this study, by applying the concrete compressive strength estimation system Concrete IoT Management System (hereinafter referred to as CIMS) to the concrete slab concrete in the domestic field, the purpose of this study is to confirm the practical use of CIMS and to verify the accuracy of estimating the initial strength of concrete. As a result, it shows a high correlation when the compressive strength and CIMS estimated strength of the specimen for structural management are converted and compared with the integrated temperature. However, in order to determine a more accurate experimental constant, it is necessary to consider the results up to 28 days.

This study was conducted to investigate changes on burned areas after a forest fire in Geyjoksan which occurred in April 2000. Both soil physicochemical properties and vegetation present were analyzed in burned and unburned sites of pinus densiflora according to two slope aspects(south and north-facing slopes). The results of the analysis are as follows. The appearance species of vegetation were 21, 15 and 18 for burned site, burned site-1 and burned site-2 of pinus densiflora community respectively, indicating that the occurrence of forest fire and slope aspects affect vegetation appearance. The pH values at 0~10㎝ soil depth of unburned and burned sites of pinus densiflora community were 5.04 and 5.12 respectively with no significant difference between them. Mean organic matter, total nitrogen and available P also had no significant difference. This results indicate that the forest recover its former pH, total nitrogen, mean organic matter and available P over time after a forest fire. North-facing slope had relatively higher soil water content thus implying that its pH values of soil lower than south-facing slope. On the other hand, south-facing slope had high organic matter and available P content of soil as compared to north-facing slope. With south facing slope having high water contents, humus was accumulated due to slow organic matter decomposition. The pH values also decreased due to organic acids from humus. However, we observed that organic matter and P concentration in soil increased.
A Medium-Maturing, Lodging Tolerance, and Good-Quality Rice Variety "Seoan1"

"Seoanl" is a new japonica rice variety developed from a cross between Namyang9, a line of lodging tolerance and adaptable to reclaimed saline area, and Gyehwa7, a line of good-quality, adaptable to reclaimed saline area and high yield by the rice breeding team of National Institute of Crop Science, RDA, in 2005. This variety has about 131 days of growth duration from transplanting to harvesting in central plain area, and mid-western coastal area in Korea. It is about 73 cm in culm length and tolerance to lodging. It has also semi-erect pubescent leaf blade and slightly tough culm with good canopy architecture. The number of panicles per hill of Seoanl is slightly more than that of Hwaseongbyeo. Seoanl was susceptible to major diseases, blast, bacterial blight and viruses, and insect, brown plant hopper. This variety has lower amylose content of 18.8% and better palatability of cooked rice than those of Hwaseongbyeo. The milled rice yield performance of this variety is about 5.60MT/ha in local adaptability test for three years. Seoanl would be adaptable to central plain area and mid-western coastal area of Korea.
