The effect of reducing flood magnitudes, flood stages, and flood damage by upstream reservoir regulation are investigated in this study. The analytical procedures which has been established newly, are treated through this study for 7 index stations and same numbr of reaches. The method of this study could be expressed briefly as following procedures. Using stage-frequency relations and the potential damage survey data, damage-frequency relations are established, and from this, average annual flood damages computed. By holding out portions of the floods with various amounts of flood control storage in 6 reservoirs in the basin, routing were made to establish modified stage-frequency relations. From damage frequency relation, average annual damages are computed with and without condition of each control volume. The study result are concluded as follows; (1) The relationtship of corresponding water level between nearby stations are useful tools to adjust error of the data due to observation error and change of the gaging location. (2) The number of records about 10 years could not be applied for the statistical methods of flood frequency analysis. (3) The regional skew factors are recommended to apply flood frequency study by the log-Pearson Type III method. (4) The effect of damage reductions are greatly affectedin accordance with the routed flood. Therefore application of the Typical Tributary Contribution Flood are reasonable for this type of study. (5) In the North Han, effect of damage reduction due to the lacation of control point are gradually increased from upstream to downward until the confluence of North and South Han. (6) In the South Han, control effect are increased from Chungju to Yeoju where the maximum effect are analyzed and then decrease gradually until the confluence. (7) Better hydrologic and topographic combinations for the flood control are existed in South Han to compare with North Han in this study results.

Concerned with ambiguous stereochemistry assignment of natural (+)-glabridin, absolute configurations of (${\pm}$)-glabridin enantiomers were studied with synthetic glabridin. Synthetic glabridin enantiomers were separated by semi-preparative Sumi-chiral column chromatography, and characterized by UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopy. Three-dimensional molecular structure of glabridin was obtained as equatorial Ph-3 half chair chroman ring from semi-empirical PM3 calculation, and refined by coupling constants in $^1H$ NMR spectrum. Finally, absolute configurations of two enantiomers were determined by circular dichroism spectroscopy based on the empirical helicity rules. Absolute configuration of natural (+)-glabridin was confirmed as (R)-glabridin, as known.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Two types of metal azolate frameworks (MAFs) with uncoordinated and coordinated nitrogen atoms composed of zinc coordinated with 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and 3,5-dimethyl-1,2,4-triazole linkers denoted as MAF-66 and MAF-X5, respectively have been synthesized and characterized using various physicochemical techniques. The uncoordinated N donors present in the MAFs show high adsorption affinity for carbon dioxide. The synthesized MAFs showed promising catalytic activity towards the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide and epoxides under solvent-free conditions with excellent selectivity towards the desired five-membered cyclic carbonates. The importance of uncoordinated N donors and amine groups in the effective catalysis of the cycloaddition of CO2 and epoxides was investigated. Both catalysts were separable by simple filtration and reusable without any considerable loss in the initial activity. Various reaction parameters including temperature, reaction time, and CO2 pressure were studied. Rice is a staple crop with a small genome of 389 Mb. Rice grain is a source of carbohydrates and proteins and has a relatively low protein content compared to other legume seeds. Glutelin and prolamin are the major storage proteins in rice. Prolamins are characterized by high glutamine and proline content and are generally soluble only in strong alcohol solutions. In this study, we obtained a total of 51,383 expressed sequence tags (ESTs)from Ilpumbyeo (Oryza sativa L.), of which 33,201 and 18,182 clones were obtained from immature and germinating seeds, respectively. From the EST clones, 15,148unigenes were identified, and 2,590 genes were expressed in both immature and germinating seeds. Gene expression profiling of rice prolamins indicated that prolamin gene expression increased 5 days after heading and reached maximal expression after 30 days, suggesting a high demand for prolamins during seed development and germination. Phylogenetic analysis grouped 33 prolamin genes based on the abundance of sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine according to the deduced amino acid sequences. Our results enhance the understanding of the regulation of seed maturation and germination, which can result in improved agricultural traits for the seed industry.

This paper proposed method of designing control system for two humanoid robots to transport objects stably in mutual collaboration with the use of PID and Fuzzy control. When a robot transports an object while walking, the transportation of object may not be stable due to vibration or external factors occurred from departure speed error and walking of the robot. Therefore, it is necessary to measure and calibrate the horizontal and vertical locations and speeds of object with PID control with reference to the chest coordinate of robots and then calibrate the difference of departure speed between robots with Fuzzy control. We expect that The results of simulation with two robots indicated that robots can transport objects stably.

<P>Abstract</P><P>The resetting of the circadian clock based on photic cues delivered by the glutamatergic retinohypothalamic tract is an important process helping mammals to function adaptively to the daily light–dark cycle. To see if the photic resetting relies on voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs), we examined the effects of VGCC blockers on the glutamate-induced phase shifts of circadian firing activity rhythms of suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) neurons in hypothalamic slices. First, we found that a cocktail of amiloride, nimodipine and &ohgr;-conotoxin MVIIC (T-, L- and NPQ-type VGCC antagonists, respectively) completely blocked both phase delays and advances, which were, respectively, induced by glutamate application in early and late night. Next, we discovered that: (i) amiloride and another T-type VGCC antagonist, mibefradil, completely obstructed the delays without affecting the advances; (ii) nimodipine completely blocked the advances while having less impact on delays; and (iii) &ohgr;-conotoxin MVIIC blocked largely, if not entirely, both delays and advances. Subsequent whole-cell recordings revealed that T-type Ca2+ currents in neurons in the ventrolateral, not dorsomedial, region of the SCN were larger during early than late night, whereas L-type Ca2+ currents did not differ from early to late night in both regions. These results indicate that VGCCs play important roles in glutamate-induced phase shifts, T-type being more important for phase delays and <SMALL>L</SMALL>-type being so for phase advances. Moreover, the results point to the possibility that a nocturnal modulation of T-type Ca2+ current in retinorecipient neurons is related to the differential involvement of T-type VGCC in phase delays and advances.</P>

Kim, Han-Gyu,Yang, Yoon-Cheol,Jeong, Kwang-Eun,Kim, Tae-Wan,Chae, Ho-Jeong,Jeong, Soon-Yong,Kim, Chul-Ung,Lee, Kwan-Young American Scientific Publishers 2015 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.15 No.1
<P>The effect of the template of HZSM-5 and its synthesis method on the catalytic conversions of ethanol to aromatic hydrocarbons has been investigated over a 0.8%Zn/0.6%La/HZSM-5 (Si/Al2 = 50) catalyst in a fixed-bed flow reactor under operating conditions of T = 710 K, P = 1 bar, and WHSV = 0.8 hr(-1). Nano- and micro-size HZSM-5 were prepared by hydrothermal and microwave synthesis with different templates: TPAOH, TPABr, and HMDA. Zinc and lanthanum modified HZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by a simple co-impregnation method. It was found that the size of the particles and the crystal structure of HZSM-5 were influenced by the template type and synthesis method. When using the TPAOH template, the nano-sized particles were prepared by microwave synthesis, whereas HZSM-5 prepared from TPABr and HMDA by a hydrothermal method, were composed of cubic shaped nanocrystals inside a micro-sized particle. The effect of the template on the selectivity to aromatics over a La/Zn/HZSM-5 catalyst was shown as follows: HMDA > TPABr > TPAOH.</P>
