The effects of dietary supplementation of processed sulfur in pigs according to the level provided during the fattening phase were examined. The pigs were divided into three groups: control (CON), non-sulfur fed pigs; T1, 0.1% processed sulfur fed pigs; T2, 0.3% processed sulfur fed pigs. Physicochemical and sensory properties, as well as meat quality and oxidative stability of the Longissimus dorsi muscle were investigated. The feeding of processed sulfur did not affect moisture and protein contents (p>0.05). However, the crude fat content of T2 was significantly decreased compared to CON (p<0.05), while the pH value of T2 was significantly higher than those of both CON and T1 (p<0.05). Cooking loss and expressible drip of T2 were also significantly lower than that of CON (p<0.05). The redness of meat from T1 was significantly higher than both CON and T2 (p<0.01). During storage, lipid oxidation of the meat from sulfur fed pigs (T1 and T2) was inhibited compared to CON. Examination of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids revealed T2 to have significantly higher content than CON (p<0.05). In the sensory test, the juiciness and overall acceptability of T2 recorded higher scores than CON. This study demonstrated that meat from 0.3% processed sulfur fed pigs had improved nutrition and quality, with extended shelf-life.

<P>Weissella are obligate heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria belonging to the Leuconostocaceae family. Some Weissella can be found in salted and fermented foods, such as kimchi and jeotgal, and plays an important role in the fermentation process. In the present study, for the first time, a rapid and accurate identification method for Weissella species from kimchi and jeotgal was developed based on MALDI-TOF MS, supplemented with an in-house database. Of the 135 Weissella spectra aligned with the MALDI bioTyper database, 56 isolates (41.5%) yielded no reliable identification results with low log scores (<1.7). After registering the spectra of six Weissella reference strains, all of the isolates were correctly identified, of which 113 (83.7%) and 22 (163%) were identified at the species and genus level, respectively. Moreover, a dendrogram generated by protein profiles of the different Weissella species clearly presented distinctive clusters, and PCA analysis separated the spectra of Weissella species into four clusters. In comparing food origins, different Weissella species were identified from two fermented foods. W. soli and W. cibaria were isolated from kimchi, while W. thailandensis and W. halotolerans were isolated from jeotgal. The results of our proteomic approach confirm that the MALDI bioTyper database, with our in-house Weissella database, is sufficient for Weissella identification. The MALDI-TOF MS method provides fast and reliable discrimination between different species in the genus Weissella and, therefore, will be useful for safety control in fish farms or in the production of fermented foods. This method can also be applied to the control of opportunistic pathogenic Weissella in human clinical infections. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

<B>ABSTRACT</B><B>Background:</B><P>This study aimed to investigate the influences of age, education, and gender on the two total scores (TS-I and TS-II) of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease Neuropsychological assessment battery (CERAD-NP) and to provide normative information based on an analysis for a large number of elderly persons with a wide range of educational levels.</P><B>Methods:</B><P>In the study, 1,987 community-dwelling healthy volunteers (620 males and 1,367 females; 50-90 years of age; and zero to 25 years of education) were included. People with serious neurological, medical, and psychiatric disorders (including dementia) were excluded. All participants underwent the CERAD-NP assessment. TS-I was generated by summing raw scores from the CERAD-NP subtests, excluding Mini-Mental State Examination and Constructional Praxis (CP) recall subtests. TS-II was calculated by adding CP recall score to TS-I.</P><B>Results:</B><P>Both TS-I and TS-II were significantly influenced by demographic variables. Education accounted for the greatest proportion of score variance. Interaction effect between age and gender was found. Based on the results obtained, normative data of the CERAD-NP total scores were stratified by age (six overlapping tables), education (four strata), and gender.</P><B>Conclusions:</B><P>The normative information will be very useful for better interpretation of the CERAD-NP total scores in various clinical and research settings and for comparing individuals’ performance of the battery across countries.</P>

Development of MATLAB GUI Based Software for Monitoring Ionospheric Disturbances
Kim, Bu-Gyeom,Kang, Seonho,Han, Deokhwa,Song, Junesol,So, Hyoungmin,Kim, Kap Jin,Kee, Changdon The Institute of Positioning 2019 Journal of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Vol.8 No.2
This study introduces MATLAB Graphical User Interface (GUI)-based software to monitor ionospheric disturbances. This software detects ionospheric disturbances using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) measurements, and estimates a location of the disturbance source through the detected disturbance. In addition, this software includes a sky plot making function and frequency analysis function through wavelet transform. To evaluate the performance of the developed software, data of 2011 Tohoku earthquake in Japan were analyzed by using the software. The analysis results verified that the ionospheric disturbances were detected through GPS and GLONASS measurements, and the location of the disturbance source was estimated through the detected disturbance.

The coordinating halides (Br− or Cl−) produce one-dimensional compounds <B>6</B> and <B>7</B>, and intra- and inter-chain CH⋯X (X=Br or I) interactions play roles for building crystal structures with the flexible bpp ligands. The non-coordinating PF6− anions do not produce hydroxyl bridged zinc cations or polymeric compounds, and produce only a monomeric complex <B>4</B> containing four bpp ligands and two water ligands. Previously reported polymeric compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> containing hydroxyl-bridged zinc cations [Zn2OH] were found to carry out the catalytic transesterification of a range of esters with methanol at room temperature under the mild conditions, whereas the rest of compounds did not catalyze the transesterification reactions at all. A Study of SBAS Position Domain Analysis Method: WAAS and EGNOS Performance Evaluation
Kim, Dong-Uk,Han, Deok-Hwa,Kim, Jung-Beom,Kim, Hwi-Gyeom,Kee, Chang-Don,Choi, Kwang-Sik,Choi, Heon-Ho,Lee, Eun-Sung The Institute of Positioning 2016 Journal of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Vol.5 No.4
A Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is a system that provides positioning information with high and accurate reliability to users who require ensuring high safety such as airplane taking off and landing. A continuous performance evaluation on navigation safety facilities shall be performed to determine whether developed systems meet the required performance before and after the operation. In this paper, SBAS position domain analysis is discussed in relation to analysis items for performance evaluation. The performance evaluation on the SBAS in the position domain shall conduct analysis on accuracy, integrity, continuity, and availability, which are items in the required navigation performance (RNP). In the paper, position domain analysis was conducted with regard to the Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) in the USA and the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), which were developed already and now under operation. The analysis result showed that each of the systems satisfied the APV-I performance requirements recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) with regard to daily data. It is necessary to verify using long-term data, whether the performance requirements in the RNP items are satisfied for system certification.
