<P><I>Introduction</I>. Functional dyspepsia (FD), a common upper gastrointestinal disease, is difficult to manage because of the limitations of current conventional treatments. Yukgunja-tang (YGJT) is widely used to treat FD in clinical practice in Korea, Japan, and China. However, YGJT significantly improves few symptoms of FD. In Korean medicine, FD is a well-known functional gastric disease that shows difference in the effect of herbal medicine depending on constitution or type of Korean medicine diagnosis. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of YGJT on FD patients classified by 3-dimensional facial measurement using a 3-dimensional facial shape diagnostic system (3-FSDS).<I> Methods</I>. A placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized, two-center trial will be performed to evaluate the efficacy of YGJT on FD patients. Eligible subjects will be initially classified as two types by 3-dimensional facial measurement using the 3-FSDS. Ninety-six subjects (48 subjects per each type) will be enrolled. These subjects will be randomly allocated into treatment or control groups in a 2 : 1 ratio. YGJT or placebo will be administered to each group during the 8-week treatment period. The primary outcome is total dyspepsia symptom scale, and the secondary outcomes include single dyspepsia symptom scale, proportion of responders with adequate symptom relief, visual analog scale, Nepean dyspepsia index-Korean version, functional dyspepsia-related quality of life, and spleen qi deficiency questionnaire.<I> Discussion</I>. This is the first randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of the YGJT on FD patients classified by 3-dimensional facial measurement. We will compare the treatment effect of the YGJT on FD patients classified as two types using the 3-FSDS. The results of this trial will help the FD patients improve the symptoms and quality of life effectively and provide objective evidence for prescribing the YGJT to FD patients in clinical practice.<I> Trial Registration</I>. Association of metals with the risk and clinical characteristics of Parkinson's disease

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Introduction</B></P> <P>While metals have been implicated in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease (PD), the clinical evidence is scarce. Further, the contribution of metals for the risk or clinical presentation of PD remains to be explored.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>To investigate the associations between the level of metals in blood serum and PD risk or clinical presentation, including sex-related differences, we studied 325 PD patients and age- and sex-matched 304 controls. We collected clinical data of the PD patients, including age at onset, PD duration, levodopa-equivalent dose (LED), Hoehn and Yahr stage (H-Y stage), presence of motor fluctuation, levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID), freezing of gait, hallucination, and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score. Iron, copper, and zinc levels in serum were assayed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Statistical analyses were performed to determine the sex-related differences in metal levels.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Among the three metal elements tested, serum copper levels showed significant correlations with PD risk or clinical presentation. Higher copper levels were associated with a decreased PD risk. Higher copper or lower iron levels were associated with the risk of LID in women. Serum copper levels were negatively correlated with MMSE scores in PD patients.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>This clinical study suggests significant associations between serum metal levels and PD risk or essential clinical features, demonstrating the possible roles of metals in PD pathogenesis or symptom development.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Clinical evidence on the implication of metal in Parkinson's disease (PD) is rare. </LI> <LI> Higher copper level in serum is associated with a decreased PD risk. </LI> <LI> Higher copper or lower iron is associated with levodopa-induced dyskinesia in women. </LI> <LI> Serum copper level is negatively correlated with MMSE scores in PD patients. </LI> <LI> There are associations between serum metals and PD risk or clinical presentation. </LI> </UL> </P>
제주 관광 지속가능성을 위한 쓰레기 분리수거 최적화 연구: ChatGPT 활용

제주도는 관광객이 연간 천만 명을 넘고 있고, 관광 쓰레기가 폐기물 발생량이 40%를 차지하고 있다. 이와 관련하여 재활용 쓰레기를 활용한 제주 스타트업 업체 출현과 새로운 매립지 조성, 관광세 등 다양한 대안이 제시되고 있지만 여전히 관광 쓰레기 문제는 해결되지 않고 있지 않은 상황이다. 이러한 상황에서 본 연구는 환경 보존과 관광 성장이라는 양면적 측면을 가진 제주 쓰레기 문제 해결의 최적안을 탐색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 제주도를 방문한 관광객 및 제주 거주자를 대상으로 분리 수거에 관한 설문조사를 실시하고, 그 조사 결과를 바탕으로 쓰레기 배출 원인에 대해 관련 분석을 통해 효과적인 해결점을 찾고자 하였다. 이는 기존에 있던 쓰레기 문제에 주를 이루는 해양과 관련된 연구와는 달리 사람들의 인식을 기반으로 적극적인 분리수거에 미치는 요인을 도출하는 설문 데이터와 ChatGPT를 활용하여 원인을 분석함으로써 관광은 유지하면서 쓰레기를 줄이는 최적화 방안을 탐색하였다. 이를 통해 자연과 사람이 함께 어울리는 지속가능한 관광을 유지하고, 관광으로 인해 발생하는 쓰레기를 재활용할 수 있는 최적의 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. Jeju Island has more than 10 million tourists annually, and tourist waste accounts for 40% of the waste generation. In relation to this, various alternatives have been proposed, such as the emergence of Jeju startups using recycled waste, the creation of new landfills, and tourism taxes, but the tourist waste problem is still not resolved. In this situation, this study aims to explore the optimal solution for the Jeju garbage problem, which has both environmental and tourism aspects. The study conducted a survey on waste separation among tourists and residents who visited Jeju Island, and based on the survey results, it tried to find effective solutions by analyzing the causes of waste discharge. Unlike previous studies that focused on marine-related issues, this study used survey data and ChatGPT to analyze the causes based on peoples perceptions and derived factors that affect active waste separation. The study explored an optimal solution to reduce waste while maintaining tourism. Through this, the study aimed to present an optimal solution for recycling waste generated by tourism and maintaining sustainable tourism that harmonizes nature and people.
