<P><I>Objective.</I> According to the American Thoracic Society, approximately 5% of all asthmatics have refractory asthma (RA); these patients fail to recover lost lung function even after long-term treatment with high doses of medications. <I>Methods.</I> Using a time-trend controlled case-crossover study design, we calculated odds ratios to evaluate whether exposure to ambient air pollutants and certain meteorological conditions on the day of admission (Lag 0) and up to 3 days before admission (Lag1 through Lag 3) were associated with acute RA exacerbation. Results were obtained after controlling for the effects of seasonality, smoking, and allergen sensitivity; we stratified our data into four seasons with respect to the median temperature of each month and further stratified them according to self-reported smoking status and skin-prick test results. <I>Results.</I> In our study, RA patients (<I>n</I> = 82), living in metropolitan city of Seoul and Kyunggi Province, accounted for 3.7% of all asthmatics (<I>n</I> = 2298) registered in our asthma cohort between 2005 and 2009. In winter, a 1°C decrease in ambient temperature and a 1 ppb increase in sulfur dioxide concentration on the day of Lag 1 were associated with 14.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.9-26.7) and 19.7% (95% CI: 3.3-38.7) increases in the risk of RA exacerbation among nonsmokers, respectively. Similar associations were obtained on the day of Lag 2. The association remained unchanged after excluding patients sensitive to <I>Dermatophagoides farinae</I> and <I>Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus</I>. <I>Conclusions.</I> Exposure to temperature drops and increased sulfur dioxide concentrations are positively associated with the occurrence of acute RA exacerbation during winter with 1 or 2 day lags.</P>
Distance Information based Energy Control Mechanisms in the Mobile Sensor Network

In addition to fixed sensor network such as crop cultivation management system, studies on mobile sensor network have been actively conducting, which is used for collecting information from the moving objects like livestock and cars with use of sensors. The mobility of node enables to prolong the lifespan of network and to manage network efficiently through equal allocation of energy among nodes. To ensure efficient mobility, it is required to make a functional change to MAC layer and routing protocol. In particular, an enhanced transmission mechanism is essential in order to effectively control a link discontinuity or an increase of traffic overhead caused by the mobility of node. This paper aims to propose an energy-efficient transmission mechanism using distance information between sensors in mobile sensor network. Performance of the proposed mechanism has been evaluated by simulation. The simulation results indicate that the proposed mechanism outperforms traditional minimum hop routing method from the perspective of several performance indicators including average packet latency, average energy consumption and network lifespan.

Objectives: In spite of the importance of green space for reducing obesity-related problems, there has been little exploration of whether access to green space (e.g., parks and recreational facilities) influences the obesity rate of adults in the United States. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships among accessibility of green space, obesity rates, and socioeconomic and demographic variables among adults living in the State of Indiana, United States. Methods: We conducted a secondary data analysis to investigate the relationships among accessibility to green space, obesity rates, and socio-demographic variables with employing Geographic Information System in order to measure the accessibility of green space. Results: This study found that accessibility of green space served as a strong predictor of reduced obesity rates among adults (β=-2.478; p<0.10). In addition, adults with higher education levels, as well as better access to green space, were found to have even lower obesity rates (β=-0.188; p<0.05). Other control variables such as unemployment rates, food security, and physical inactivity are additional factors that influence obesity rates among adults. Conclusions: Accessibility of green space may play an important role in facilitating physical activity participation and reducing obesity rates.
항공기 RF 장비들의 신호 간섭 방지를 위한 필터 설계

본 논문에서는 항공기에 장착되는 RF(Radio Frequency) 장비간의 신호 간섭을 방지하기 위한 방안으로 가해 장비의 RF 단에 필터를 사용하여 간섭 성분을 억제하는 방안을 제안한다. 특히 가해 장비에서 발생하는 고조파 성분의 억제를 위한 필터 설계와 필터 성능을 검증하기 위한 시험 방안을 제시한다. 필터는 U/VHF(Ultra/Very High Filter) 무전기와 데이터링크 시스템간의 간섭을 방지하기 위해 U/VHF 무전기의 RF 단에 설치하였다. 본 논문에서의 필터 설계와 시험 방안은 항공기에서 발생하는 간섭 문제에 대한 대책을 수립할 수 있는 도구로써 항공기 RF 장비 설계에 도움을 줄 것이다. This paper presents method to suppress signal interference by using the filter in the RF output stage of the radiation equipment as a way to avoid interference between the RF(Radio Frequency) equipment mounted on aircraft. Especially filter design to suppress harmonics of the radiation equipment and testing method to verify the filter’s performance is presented. Filter was installed at RF output stage of U/VHF radio in order to prevent interference between U/VHF(Ultra/Very High Frequency) radio and data link system. Filter design and testing method in this paper will be able to give help in the design of aircraft equipments as a tool that can be used to establish measures for problem of interference in the aircraft.
Label-free Measurement of Cell Viability via Counting Cells Attached on Affinity Substrates

The commonly used trypan blue dye exclusion method and other modified cell viability methods, such as fluorescein dye and tetrazolium dye exclusion, artificially introduce toxic chemicals to cells and, thus, alter cellular organelles when measuring cell viability. Therefore, cell viability could be affected by the processes currently used to observe viability. In this study, the cell viability of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells was measured by simply counting attached cells after the cultured CHO cells were attached on a Concanavalin A (Con A) substrate. The efficiency of cell attachment to Con A surfaces was different for live and dead cells allowing the cell viability of CHO cells to be measured without any chemical modifications to the cells.

표면의 균열, 겹침결함, 금형의 코너반경이 작아 재료의 유동성이 낮을 때 발생하는 콜드셧, 부분충진 등의 단조결함이 없는 자동차용 단조 플랜지를 생산하기 위해서 열전달, 단류선 흐름, 응력분포를 고려하여 형단조 공정과 금형에 대한 해석을 수행하였다. 축박기(up-set) 단조, 예비성형, 최종성형, 단조압력으로 구성된 단조과정은 유한요소법으로 해석되었다. 예비성형과 상하 금형의 높이비율이 단조공정과 금형에 미치는 영향을 평가하여 예비금형의 각 10°와 최종 금형의 상하비율 1.5:1이 단조결함이 없는 결과를 나타내었다. 이를 반영한 새로 설계된 금형은 재료강도, 완전충진, 하중한계 13,000 KN 이라는 공정변수를 모두 만족시켰다. 이론 입증을 위해서 개선된 금형과 플랜지가 제작되었으며, 단조결함이 발견되지 않았다. Hot closed-forging process and the die used for forming an automotive flange were analyzed from the viewpoints of heat transfer, grain-flow lines, and stresses to obtain a forged product without defects such as surface cracks, laps, cold shots, and partial filling. The forging process including up-set, pre-forging, final forging and pressing forces was investigated using finite element analysis. The influence of the preform die and the ratio of the heights of the upper die to lower die on the forging process and die were investigated and a die shape (10o for the preform die, and 1.5:1 ratio for the final die) suitable to achieve successful forging was determined on the basis of a parametric study. All parametric design requirements such as strength, full filling, and a load limit of 13,000 KN were satisfied for this newly developed flange die. New dies and flanges were fabricated and investigated. Defects such as partial filling and surface cracks were not observed.
Exploring Perspectives of Serious Leisure Experiences associated with Successful Aging

고령화 사회로 진입하고 있거나 이미 진입한 여러 나라에서는 노인 삶의 질에 대한 관심이 높아진다. 선행연구들에 따르면, 여가활동 참여는 노인들의 심리적 웰빙이나 생활 만족, 신체적 건강과 큰 연관이 있으며, 특히 신체활동을 기반으로 한 여가참여의 가치를 높게 평가하고 있다. Stebbins (1982; 1992; 1997)의 ‘진지한 여가’ 이론을 바탕으로 보았을 때, 노인의 진지한 여가 참여의 경험은 성공적인 노령화와 중요한 관련이 있을 것으로 보인다. 따라서, 본 논문은 ‘진지한 여가’의 6가지 개념을 탐구하고, 진지한 여가와 노인의 관계를 규명하며, 진지한 여가활동을 위한 교육방법을 제시하였다. 노인들은 진지한 여가참여로 인해 개인적, 사회적 혜택을 얻을 수 있으며, 이를 위해서는 지역을 기반으로 하거나, 국가를 기반으로 하는 프로그램들의 고안이 필요하다고 사료된다.
