      • Dilation 연산을 이용한 기울어진 문서 영상의 보정

        In this paper, we propose a simple and efficient algorithm for the correction of linearly skewed document images. This paper is based on the fact that there is a blank line with uniform thickness between two adjacent text lines and the slope of the line is the same as that of the document. Firstly, we apply a dilation operation to the image to separate blank lines from text lines, and we detect center points of blank lines along the vertically sampled lines. Then we calculate the slope between neighboring center points in the same blank line. Calculated slopes for the entire image are accumulated on the histogram to display the distribution of them. Finally, the peak in the histogram is detected and estimated as the slope of the document image. We adopted a lot of images of various format with hand-printed or machine-printed document to verify our algorithm and obtained the accurate results at the error bound of 0.5˚.

        This study evaluated whether substantial airflow resistence changes occurred by changing jaw position in normal and snoring subjects. A case-control design was utilized to assess group differences. Subjects included 11 snoring patients and 10 non-snoring subjects. Airway resistance was assessed using a whole body plethysmograph. Subjects in this study had their mouth opening standardized to a position of 7 mm of vertical separation and the resistance was measured under the following conditions: normal jaw position and 2/3 maximum protrusive jaw position. The results were as follows: 1. The airway resistance was higher in snoring group than in non-snoring group. 2. Both groups had a significant decrease in their airflow resistance was jaw position. In conclusion, these data document that airflow resistance can be significantly influenced by jaw positioning. Moving the jaw in a protrusive position produced reduction of resistance.

        Now a days, Organizations have become to share unlimited field of information & activity due to growth of internet. As a result, they show a certain trend to integrated information system. This research made former information system of hospital to new integrated information system on intranet environment. This system remotely operate and arrange data base and web server. Therefore, this system is designed to keep consistency among each data, to build up data base system preparing for circumstances of which there are many simultaneous user, to conform with operational process in approaching method of data base. We expect that competency-ability of hospital would become much higher as construction of integrated medical information system made them possible share of medical information among each section, prompt management analysis through smooth operational process.

        석면관련 폐질환의 진단에 있어서 흉부고해상도전산화단층촬영검사(HRCT)의 유용성

        목적: 석면에 노출된 근로자에서 석면관련 폐질환의 양상을 분석하고 진단에 있어 HRCT의 유용성을 연구하여 석면에 대한 의학적 감시프로그램의 개발에 기여하고자 하였다. 방법: 석면에 직접 노출되는 작업자 68명과 간접 노출되는 작업자 94명 등 총 162명에 대해 OSHA 석면 표준, 의학적 감시 프로그램에 따라 단순 흉부방사선검사, 폐활량검사 및 우리나라 실정에 맞게 일부 수정한 의학적 설문지를 통해 면접조사의 방식으로 환자에 관한 정보를 수집하였으며, 자료의 신뢰성을 확보하기 위하여 면접조사는 1달 이상의 기간을 두고 2차례에 걸쳐 실시된 후 확인, 수정하였다. 또한, 석면관련 폐질환을 확진하기 위하여 HRCT를 추가적으로 실시하였다. 결과: HRCT결과 석면관련 폐질환의 유병율은 162명의 근로자중 17명으로 10.5%였는데, 직접 노출군에서 10명 (14.7%), 간접 노출군에서 7명 (7.4%)이었다. HRCT와 비교할 때 단순 흉부방사선검사의 민감도와 특이도는 각각 70.6%와 98.6%이었고, 양성 예측도와 음성 예측도는 각각 85.7%와 96.6%으로, HRCT는 단순흉부방사선검사에 비해 민감도가 높아 초기 석면관련 폐질환을 진단하는데 효과적이었다. 석면관련 폐질환의 진단에 있어 HRCT와 폐활량검사 사이에 유의한 관련성이 관찰되었다. HRCT 결과 석면관련 폐질환의 유무와 의학적 설문조사 결과의 빈도분석을 실시한 결과, 유의한 변수는 작업기간, 흡연량, 호흡기질환의 과거력, 기침, 호흡곤란이었다. 결론: HRCT는 석면관련 폐질환의 진단에 있어 단순 흉부방사선검사와 비교하여 민감도가 높아 초기 진단에 유용하므로 단순 흉부방사선선검사 결과 석면관련 폐질환소견을 보일 때뿐만 아니라, 정상소견을 보이더라도 폐활량 검사결과와 근무력, 흡연력, 호흡기질환의 과거력, 기침, 호흡곤란 등의 호흡기 증상을 참고하여 HRCT검사를 고려해야 한다. 또한, 본 연구에서 관련성이 없었던 요인들에 대해서도 향후 연관성을 규명하는 광범위한 전향적 연구가 필요하다. Objectives: This study was carried out to improve the medical surveillance program of workers exposed to asbestos by examining the usefulness of High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) in the diagnosis of asbestos-related lung disease. Methods: The study subjects comprised 162 workers in a ship-repairing yard, 68 of whom had been directly exposed to asbestos and 94 indirectly exposed. The 'Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) asbestos standard, medical surveilance program' and HRCT were conducted to analyze the aspects of the asbestos-related lung disease. The OSHA asbestos standard, medical surveilance program consists of simple chest x-ray, spirometry and medical questionnarie. Results: Seventeen (10.5%) of the 162 subjects, 10 (14.7%) directly exposed and 7 (7.4%) indirectly exposed, revealed asbestos-related lung disease on HRCT. The sensitivity and specificity of simple chest x-ray for asbestos-related lung disease were 70.6% and 98.6%, and the positive and negative predictive values were 85.7% and 96.6% respectively, as compared with HRCT, HRCT was an effective diagnostic tool especially to detect early asbestos-related lung disease. The study results indicated a relative significant association between the results of spirometry and HRCT. The variables significantly associated with asbestos-related lung disease on HRCT were work duration, smoking history (pack-years), past history of respiratory disease, cough and dyspnea. Conclusions: In the diagnosis of asbestos-related lung disease, HRCT should be considered not only for workers with positive findings on simple chest x-ray, but also workers with specific findings on spirometry, occupational history, smoking history, and past history of respiratory disease, or with respiratory symptoms such as cough and dyspnea.

        HYDROXYAPATITE를 이용한 전두부 성형술

        The shape and contour of the upper third of the face is provided basically by the frontal bone. A relatively thin soft tissue coverage, which consists of the skin and frontalis muscle, readily shows subtle changes on the underlying frontal bone. The forehead represents the fortune of one's youth from the viewpoint of physignomy, and a broad forehead with minimal supraorbital bossing and round curvature is preferrd in the Orient. The forehead with a deficient, flat contour or asymmetry could be indicated for augmentation. The exact site and amount of augmentation are dicided preoperatively using clinical assessment, medical photographs, and cephalometric analysis. Hydroxyapatite(Pyrost), because of its nonresorbability, seems to have advantages over other alloplastic materials for forehead augmentation. From March 1989 to February 1992 forehead augmentation has been performed in 60 patients. Through a coronal incision, the dissection was carried over the periosteum to the supraorbital ridge and the lateral orbital rim. The subperiosteal pocket was made through a small incision, and was packed with Pyrost. When indicated, facial rhytidectomy, or reduction malar plasty was performed simultaneously. The result had been satisfactory and long lasting. There had been no implant shifting, infection, or bony erosion when examed from 1 year to 4 years after surgery.

      • CROSS 공법을 이용한 폐수의 생물학적 처리에 관한 연구

        This study aims to develop using a continuous removal of organic and settling solid(CROSS) to increase the efficiency of aeration system for wastewater treatment. To solve many problems of the conventional activated-sludge process, authors suggested a new CROSS model in conjunction with aeration systems in 1996. This system is characterized by utilizing an intensive aeration pipe with inlets at the lower portion and outlets at the higher portion in an aeration tank. Through the experiments on CROSS process, the average removal efficiences of BOD, COD_(Mn), SS, T-N and T-P were showed 98.8%, 93.9%, 98.0%, 71.3% and 49.8%. The average DO (Dissolved-Oxygen) concentration was constantly maintained at 8.0 mg/L by the intensive aeration which was accompanied by rapid reduction of BOD. Degradation of the organic matters in sewage then continued for the whole aeration period. The process demonstrated that it was very adaptive without seeding and returning the sludge. Compared to the activated sludge system, the system was very flexible for the continuous flow treatment. This preliminary assessment showed that the porous media in CROSS reactor is viable for the sewage treatment, since the porous media under the intensive aeration achieves acceptable effluent quality.

        <P>The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) has established a reference 400-kV capacitive voltage divider for the purpose of calibrating industrial high-voltage measuring systems on site. In order to confirm the performance characteristics of the divider, a comparison of the calibration systems between KRISS and National Research Council Canada with the divider used as the transfer standard was conducted. This paper presents the comparison results and its analysis in obtaining the voltage-dependent performance characteristics of the reference 400-kV voltage divider over its entire range.</P>

        Fabrication of Capacitor–Resistor Bank for Calibrating Commercial Capacitance and Tan <tex> $\delta $</tex> Measuring Bridges

        <P>A capacitor-resistor combined bank to calibrate both the capacitance ratio and dissipation factor over the whole range for commercial capacitance and tan delta measuring bridges was fabricated. A fabricated secondary working standard for capacitance ratio calibration was realized by connecting double-shielded capacitors in parallel employing a substitution and build-up technique, while a secondary working standard for dissipation factor calibration was attained by connecting shielded capacitors in parallel with a shielded T-resistor network. The design of the capacitor-resistor bank and calibration results for the two commercial bridges are presented and compared with specifications provided by manufacturers including the measurement uncertainty.</P>

        Basic Understanding of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

        Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is one of the representative physiotherapical modalities used for the treatment of various musculoskeletal disorders by the application of electrical stimuli. In dental practice, it has long been used in the treatment of acute and chronic orofacial pain conditions including temporomandibular disorders. TENS is the delivery of therapeutic electrical stimuli with a variety of electrical intensity, frequency and duration to stimulate peripheral nerve through surface electrodes with various form and placement. While controversy still remains over the clinical effectiveness and application of TENS, basic understanding of its electrical properties and the expected biological reactions is important to increase the therapeutic effect and decrease the risk of possible side effects. This review, therefore, focuses on basic understanding of TENS including its underlying mechanisms and stimulation parameters.

        Simultaneous three-channel measurements of hydrogen diffusion with light intensity analysis of images by employing webcam

        After exposure to high-pressure hydrogen and subsequent decompression, a three-channel technique for simultaneous measurement of hydrogen sorption content emitted from polymers and diffusivity and plastics was developed. The technique is based on the volumetric measurement of released H2 gas combined with light intensity analysis of bright water level images by employing webcams and Lab view software. By measuring the released hydrogen corresponding to the change in water level against elapsed time in three parallel channels in real time, the total hydrogen uptake and diffusivity as a function of exposed pressure were determined with the developed diffusion analysis program. The technique was applied to three kinds of sealing rubber materials and two polyethylene liner materials. The pressure-dependent transport behaviors obtained by the developed technique are discussed and compared with those obtained by different techniques. Diffusion parameters versus variation in volume and shape for high-density polyethylene are presented together with an uncertainty evaluation for this method.
