EFG와 IGF-I의 첨가배양이 돼지 미성숙 난포란의 체외성숙과 배발달에 미치는 영향

The present study was carried out to examine the effect of EGF and IGF-I in vitro maturation (IVM) of porcine oocytes and development of porcine IVM/IVF embryos. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The rates of nuclear maturation, penetrated oocytes, pronuclear formation, polyspermic oocytes and mean numbers of the penetrated sperm were not different in NCSU-23 maturation medium with 0, 1. 5 and 10 ng/ml EGF and IGF-I (P>0.05). 2. The rates of blastocyst formation at day 7 after in vitro fertilization in 0, 1, 5 and 10 ng/ml EGF groups were 11.2±1.5%, 15.0±8.3%, 16.8±2.8% and 21.4±2.0%, also 0, 1, 5 and 10 ng/ml IGF- I groups were 11.2±1.5%, 15.0±8.3%. 16.8±2.8% and 21.4±2.0%, respectively. In the total cells case, EGF groups were 22.8±3.7, 25.7±5.5, 26.0±4.2 and 35.1±4.7, also IGF-I groups were 21.5±3.7, 25.2±2.8, 26.2±2.9 and 33.2±3.6, respectively. Both 10 ng/ml EGF group and 10 ng/ml IGF-I group were significantly higher than those of other treatment groups (P<0.05). 3. The rates of blastocyst formation at day 7 in the NCSU23 culture medium of porcine IVF-produced embryos with 0, 1, 5, and 10 ng/ml EGF groups were 14.0±1.7%, 16.2±1.4%, 16.9±1.2% and 23.1±1.6%, also 0, 1, 5, 10 ng/ml IGF-I groups were 13.6±1.7, 15.7±4.5. 16.0±0.2 and 25.0±0.8, respectively. And in the total cells case, EGF grups were 21.8±2.9, 25.2+2.8, 39.7±2.7 and 46.2±3.6, also IGF-I groups were 20.7±2.9, 26.2±2.9, 24.6±2.4 and 46.1±3.5, respectively. Both 10 ng/ml EGF group and 10 ng/ml IGF-I group were significantly higher than those of any other treatment groups (P<0.05). In conclusion, these results suggested that the addition of 10 ng/ml EGF and IGF-I were effective on the blastocyst formation and total cells of blastocysts.

The main purpose of this sutdy is ultimately to help improve art education by clarifying and interpreting the correlation of modeling ability to that of other subjects taught in primary schools. This research covered a total of 600 children of two schools : one in Chunchon city and the other in Chunsong county. As the marks of all the subjects are scaled by the absolute achievement evaluation method, the average of the tatal subjects showed a high mark of 4.23. But our research team, having measured their modeling ability in relative evaluation method, marked only 3.31 point in average. Notwithstanding this discrepancy, the correlation between the marks of the toal subjects and the drawing revealed a strikingly low coefficient of 0. 18 and 0.23 between the total and sculpturing ; and 0.20 between the tatal and modeling as a whole. Thus, it is definite that any argument for high correlation among achievements in subjects cannot apply to art subject. The result of this research may be revised by drawing data from markings of identical evaluation method, but the difference will be of little consequence.

In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

Effects of chloride on the biological treatment process of wastewater containing seawater was studied. The dextrose-synthesized wastewater and the synthesized waste-waters containing different chloride concentrations of 2,760, 8,460 and 16,690 ppm, which were adjusted by adding seawater to the dextrose-synthesized wastewater, were treated, respectively, by the aeration-only complete mixing activated sludge(CMAS) process to evaluate the chloride effects on the values of the kinetic constants, organic substrate removal rate and the effluent quality. The fish-processing wastewater whose T-BOD and chloride concentration were 1,551 and 4,450㎎/ℓrespectively was also treated by the complete mixing activated sludge process with return sludge to estimate the kinetic constant values, organic substrate removal rate and effluent quality. The units of the aeration-only CMAS process were operated with the hydraulic detention time variations of from 0.133 to 0.58 day while that of CMAS process with return sludge was operated with the hydraulic detention time variations of from 0.18 to 9.42 day and cell residence time variations of from 1.10 to 2.5 day. The kinetic constant values of k, Y, ??, for the synthesized wastewater were estimated to be ??, 0.69 and ?? respectively. These values were not changed by the increases in chloride concentration in the synthesized wastewater. However, the Ks value only varied from 83.3 to 139.5㎎/ℓas the chloride concentrations in the wastewater increased. The kinetic constant values of Ks, k, Y and ?? for the fish-processing wastewater were found to be 257㎎/ℓ, ??, 0.54 and ??, respectively. And the oxygen requirement per biomass for endogeneous respiration(b´) were estimated to be 0.25 and ?? respectively. The value of BOD coefficient(Kb) in the waste-water containing seawater were 0.72, which is slightly lower than that of the synthesized wastewater. It was suggested that design parameters for treating the high chloride ion-containing wastewater be evaluated based on the MLVSS rather than MLSS from the fact that the ratio of MLVSS and MLVSS and MLSS was only 0.49. In treating the fish-processing wastewater by CMAS process with MLVSS concentration of 4,000 ㎎/ℓ, it was found that the hydraulic detention time and cell residence time should be greater than 6.2 hours and 1.5 days to meet the effluent quality, respectively.

Purpose: The aim of this study was conducted to investigate the mean nRBC count in very low births weight infants (VLBWIs) and to determine the usefulness of the nRBC as an independent prognostic factors of perinatal complications in VLBWIs. Methods: This study was conducted on 112 VLBWIs who were hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the author's hospital within the period from March 2003 to and May 2008. Based on the infants' nucleated red blood cells (nRBC) counts at birth, on the third day after birth, on the seventh day after birth, in the second week after birth, and in the fourth week after birth in the medical records, the correlation between nRBC or absolute nRBC counts with birth weight, gestational age, and other perinatal outcomes were retrospectively investigated. Results: In VLBWIs, their mean nRBC and absolute nRBC counts were showing a gradual decrease after birth, and they were consisteantly kept at low values since one week after and inversely proportional to the birth weights. The mean nRBC counts based on the stage after birth showed a significant correlation with perinatal death, necrotizing enterocolitis, and severe intraventricular hemorrhage. Conclusion: The increase in the nRBC count showed a significant correlation with having a severe intraventricular hemorrhage, necrotizing enterocolitis, and perinatal death in VLBWIs. If an increase or no decrease in the nRBC count after birth is observed, newborninfant care precautions should be required.
Effects of Opuntia humifusa Extract on DNCB-Induced Allergic Contact Dermatitis in BALB/c Mice

This study was performed to assess the effects of Opuntia humifusa (OH) extract using a mouse model of allergic contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) was induced on the ears of BALB/c mice caused by sensitized and repeated application of 2,4-dinitro-1-chlorobenzene (DNCB). Topical treatment of 10% OH solution was applied once a day for 3 days and ear swelling was measured daily. After 3 days of treatment the mice were sacrificed and ear samples were collected for cytokine determination and histological examination. The repeated application of DNCB induced a relatively steep increment of ear thickness. Significant reductions of swelling, erythema and histopathological inflammation in ears were observed after 3 days of treatment with 10% OH. OH significantly suppressed the levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-2 and Interferon-ϒ (IFN-ϒ) in the ears and the levels of IgE in serum after DNCB rechallenge. This study demonstrates that OH inhibits DNCB-induced ACD in mice, and suppresses the levels of inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β, IL-2 and IFN-ϒ in the ear. Based on these findings, OH may have antiinflammatory and alleviatory effects in the ACD.
