        미국 보육시설의 영아보육실 계획에 관한 연구 : 샌프란시스코 베이지역을 중심으로 focused on the Bay Area of San Francisco

        The purpose of this study is to understand the present condition about the space planning and furnishing of the infant nursing rooms of the child care centers in San Francisco Bay Areas, U.S.A.. The study was conducted in two parts. First, we investigated the physical condition of the centers through sketching, measuring, taking pictures and observation. Second, to understand the user's need, the interview to the directors of the centers was performed. As a result, the followings were proposed. The Korean guideline for the nursing grouping for the infant has to be sub-divided by the development stages. And the ratio between infant and teachers has to be improved than present regulation. The functional areas such as toilet. washing space(changing diaper table), space for preparing milk(kitchenet) and also napping room have to be well organized into the nursing rooms specially for the infant. Various ideas for arranging above functions in the small nursing rooms have to be developed. The new standard guidelines for the furnishing of the nursing room by the ages should be developed.

        노후아파트의 리모델링에 대한 거주지의 요구 경향

        The deteriorated apartments make a social problem in now a days. After all, a new alternative plan for deteriorated apartments such as the remodelling concept must be considered. This study airns to survey the needs levels among residents in deteriorated apartments relating to remodelling. I might provide the basic data which could be used for the analysis of consumers in the future implementation of deteriorated remodelling projects. The analytical methods applied for this study were t-test, one-way ANOVA, post-hoc estimation(Scheff test) by the SPSS 10.1 for Windows program. The analysis of the need levels for the areas of remodelling, by the family characteristic variable, residence value viewpoint, and residence satisfaction level, indicated that the demand level for 'equipment' was the highest, followed by the order of 'structure' and 'interior'. The need levels fo r'security', 'parking lot', 'public facilities in apartment block', and 'landscape' were generally low but in the group of high income, the need levels were comparatively high.

      • A Typology of Modern Housing in Malaysia

        Modernization of cities and housing in Malaysia is a reflection of the history of the establishment of colonial trading ports for worldwide maritime trade and exchange. In cosmopolitan cities, new housing typology appeared from the influence of various ethnic immigrants and with the fusion of traditional Malay housing characteristics. This study is to focus on classifying the housing typologies of Malaysia which were formed through the modernization process of cities. The typologies of modern housing in Malaysia can be classified into two categories. The first category is the 'transformation of traditional housing'. The representative typology of this group is the ubiquitous shophouse. The shophouse was originally brought in by the Chinese immigrants from the south coast of China and transformed into the Malaysian urbanscape. The other typology is a detached-house known as the bungalo, which was the housing style combining the Malay traditional timber house and European palazzo. The second category is the 'modern urban housing typology'. Modern urbanization after the independence from the British in 1957 required the maximum utilization of land. To accommodate new social and economic needs, the new typologies were developed in the form of medium-density terrace houses (row houses) and high-density apartment. In the suburban areas, the British terrace house was adopted and developed into unique Malaysian terrace house and semi-detached house based on the British system of land sub division. In premium area of the city, luxurious housing type in the form of high-end condominium is one of the popular housing for upper middle-class and high-class society.

      • Contextual Modernization; New Town Planning in Petaling Jaya, of Malaysia

        <P>The post-war period has witnessed the emergence of new towns in a number of countries in Southeast Asia. The new town development in Malaysia started with Petaling Jaya (PJ) as a satellite town. PJ was designed in accordance with British town planning principles, which were based on the model of a modern ideal city. PJ also constituted a new regional character because it was developed with consideration for factors such as local technologies as well as social conditions. Kenneth Frampton (1998) and others discussed Asian regionalism and described this type of development in terms of the concept of "contextual modernization". This study is in concurrence with this concept and adopts the viewpoint that the impact of universal civilization can be reduced and modified by means of critical regionalism. The goal of this study is to identify how the new town planning principles of Malaysia which were first applied in the 1950s, were developed over time and how they were regionalized and transformed in a cultural and regional context. For the analysis, the authors chose 5 sections in PJ according to the building period which ranged; from the 1950s to the 2000s. To identify the planning principles, they analyzed the sections in terms of their history, land use, density, street system, distribution of public, religious and commercial facilities, and housing typologies.</P>

      • Space Organization for Unit Plans in Malaysia - Focus on Landed Properties in Ara Damansara-

        Malaysian modern housing typologies (such as bungalows, semi-detached houses and terrace houses) are influenced by international style and constitute unique regional characteristics because they are modified in accordance with climatic conditions and unique social, ethnic housing cultures. This research identified unique characteristics and planning principles of how rooms and spaces of a house are related and organized into coherent patterns of form and space. For the analysis, we surveyed twenty-two residential precincts that identified twenty-five unit plan types for landed properties built in Ara Damansara, Malaysia. The methodology adopted in this study consisted of a document review and field surveys. It is difficult to find unique characteristics of space organization (except for the location of bathrooms) because the form of terrace houses is standardized and limited in design from the aspect of space organization. However, the organization of bedroom space and kitchen space has strong regional characteristics that have become stereotyped for semi-Ds and bungalows. General guideline for areas of unit plans are proposed based on the results of area analysis. We also found that the areas of L + D and MB increase as the total area of the house increases; however, the remaining rooms do not increase in area as long as they satisfy appropriate standards due to the addition of multi-purpose extra rooms. This study only examined limited cases in Ara Damansara and it is difficult to generalize the findings of other new towns in Malaysia. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to collect and systematically organize data according to typologies. Finally, the authors were able to understand the unique regional design factors to be considered for landed property housing planning in Malaysia.
