Network Traffic Measurement Analysis using Machine Learning

        Hae-Duck Joshua Jeong(Hae-Duck Joshua Jeong) 한국인공지능학회 2023 인공지능연구 (KJAI) Vol.11 No.2

In recent times, an exponential increase in Internet traffic has been observed as a result of advancing development of the Internet of Things, mobile networks with sensors, and communication functions within various devices. Further, the COVID-19 pandemic has inevitably led to an explosion of social network traffic. Within this context, considerable attention has been drawn to research on network traffic analysis based on machine learning. In this paper, we design and develop a new machine learning framework for network traffic analysis whereby normal and abnormal traffic is distinguished from one another. To achieve this, we combine together well-known machine learning algorithms and network traffic analysis techniques. Using one of the most widely used datasets KDD CUP'99 in the Weka and Apache Spark environments, we compare and investigate results obtained from time series type analysis of various aspects including malicious codes, feature extraction, data formalization, network traffic measurement tool implementation. Experimental analysis showed that while both the logistic regression and the support vector machine algorithm were excellent for performance evaluation, among these, the logistic regression algorithm performs better. The quantitative analysis results of our proposed machine learning framework show that this approach is reliable and practical, and the performance of the proposed system and another paper is compared and analyzed. In addition, we determined that the framework developed in the Apache Spark environment exhibits a much faster processing speed in the Spark environment than in Weka as there are more datasets used to create and classify machine learning models.

A review of chronic pectoralis major tears: what options are available?

        Joshua R. Giordano,Brandon Klein,Benjamin Hershfeld,Joshua Gruber,Robert Trasolini,Randy M. Cohn 대한견주관절의학회 2023 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.26 No.3

Rupture of the pectoralis major muscle typically occurs in the young, active male. Acute management of these injuries is recommended; however, what if the patient presents with a chronic tear of the pectoralis major? Physical exams and magnetic resonance imaging can help identify the injury and guide the physician with a plan for management. Nonoperative management is feasible, but is recommended for elderly, low-demand patients whose functional goals are minimal. Repair of chronic tears should be reserved for younger, healthier patients with high functional demands. Although operative management provides better functional outcomes, operative treatment of chronic pectoralis tears can be challenging. Tendon retraction, poor tendinous substance and quality of tissue, muscle atrophy, scar formation, and altered anatomy make direct repairs complicated, often necessitating auto- or allograft use. We review the various graft options and fixation methods that can be used when treating patients with chronic pectoralis major tears.

      • Optimization of an Intelligent Wheelchair: LiDAR and Camera Vision for Obstacle Avoidance

        Joshua Green,Joshua Clounie,Rafael Galarza,Shawn Anderson,Jash Campell-Smith,Razvan Cristian Voicu 제어로봇시스템학회 2022 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2022 No.11

According to the Wheelchair Foundation, over 131 million individuals depend on a wheelchair. Wheelchairs drastically improve the quality of life by providing partially disabled persons with mobility. Moreover, wheelchairs have become a central component of many hospitals, necessary to transport patients. However, manual wheelchairs limit users’ or helpers’ freedom by requiring direct actuation, either by turning the wheels or pushing the wheelchair. Electric wheelchairs allow users to navigate a wheelchair through a single control mechanism to improve flexibility. Autonomous wheelchairs are the next step in improving the quality of life and further enhancing user freedom. This paper presents the optimization of an automated wheelchair implementing unique and novel path planning and localization indoors. The results illustrate the implementation of camera vision with LiDAR for obstacle avoidance and advancements in a modular infrastructure.

Piracy around the Horn of Africa

( Joshua H Ho ) 한국국방연구원 2009 The Korean Journal of Defense Analysis Vol.21 No.4

Piracy around the Horn of Africa has risen to a level serious enough for the international community to take concerted action to secure an international sea lane. However, the efforts so far have been initiated mainly by the international community while regional efforts are only just beginning. In the short term, more action will have to be taken at the operational level, for example dispatching more ships and integrating the operations of ships already deployed to the area. In the longer term, the root causes of piracy and the grievances of the Somali people have to be addressed. In particular, there is a need to restore law and order in Somalia by supporting moderate leaders in their attempts to create a representative government.

Prophylactic Tibial Stem Fixation in the Obese: Comparative Early Results in Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty

        ( Joshua T. Steere ),( Michael C. Sobieraj ),( Christopher J. Defrancesco ),( Craig L. Israelite ),( Charles L. Nelson ),( Atul F. Kamath ) 대한슬관절학회 2018 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.30 No.3

Purpose: Obesity is a risk factor for aseptic loosening after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Prophylactic use of tibial stems may enhance tibial fixation in obese patients. The aim of this study was to determine whether a tibial stem extension decreases rates of early failure in obese patients. Materials and Methods: This study included 178 consecutive primary TKAs (143 patients) with a body mass index ≥35 kg/m2. Fifty TKAs were performed with the use of a 30 mm tibial stem extension, and 128 TKAs were performed with a standard tibial component. Patients with twoyear clinical follow-up were included. The primary outcome was revision for aseptic loosening. Secondary outcomes were all-cause revision and radiolucent lines (RLLs) on radiographs. Results: Average follow-up was 34 months (range, 24 to 46 months). No failures for aseptic loosening occurred. The occurrence of secondary procedures was not significantly different between groups. Quantification of RLLs revealed no difference between groups. Conclusions: At early follow-up, no difference was measured in revision rates, need for subsequent procedures, or RLLs between groups.

      • Creation Science and/or Creation Doctrine, rather than Creationism

Joshua Kohath 한국창조과학회 2024 Origin Research Journal Vol.4 No.1

Words matter in the origins debate. Especially with the burgeoning presence of theistic evolutionism both in English-speaking countries and in South Korea, the term “Creationism” is employed derogatorily at worst; at best, the term often evokes negativity as the suffix ‘-ism’ associates it with numerous ideological terms. This letter reviews several common reasons for averting the use of the term ‘Creation Science’ (from perspectives of etymology and philosophical/scientific) and invokes the reasons for espousing ‘Creation Science’ from a theological viewpoint. It then concludes that there should be a deliberate, concerted effort to increasing the use of ‘Creation Doctrine’ and the corollary, ‘Creation Science’, whereas concurrently reducing the use of ‘Creationism’.

Effects of Eccentric Exercise Associated with Patellofemoral Tendinopathy: A Systematic Review

        Joshua Mark Prall,Madison Gillen,Elizabeth Talbot,Samantha Flater,Ryan Bibeau,John Ricciuti,Stan Dacko 물리치료재활과학회 2023 Physical therapy rehabilitation science Vol.12 No.4

Background: Patellofemoral tendinopathy is a common condition that is associated with anteromedial knee pain due to chronicrepetitive tendon overloading. Physical therapy in combination with an eccentric exercise program has been thought to be the goldstandard of treatment for patellofemoral tendinopathy. The aim of this study was to examine the literature regarding theeffectiveness of treating patellofemoral tendinopathy with eccentric exercise and other interventions. Methods: A literature search of Medline Complete, PubMed, CINAHL Complete, and Journal of Science and Medicine in Sports was conducted using PEDro guidelines. Results: Eight articles met our selection criteria. The 8 articles investigated individuals who all had pain at the inferior pole of thepatella or were diagnosed via ultrasound for patellar tendinopathy. The articles investigated the effects of eccentric exercise versus other treatments such as, progressive tendon-loading exercise therapy (PTLE), extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT),percutaneous electrolysis (PNE), dry needling (DN), and concentric hip muscle strengthening. Ultimately, each treatment resultedin decreased pain and patellar stiffness, along with improvement in outcome measures, but it was found that no intervention was more effective than eccentric exercise alone, besides progressive tendon-loading exercise therapy. Conclusions: Moderate to strong mixed evidence exists to show the effect of eccentric exercise in combination with otherinterventions decreases patellofemoral pain and increased functional mobility in individuals with patellofemoral tendinopathy. Progressive tendon-loading exercise therapy was the one treatment that showed more significant improvements in outcome

Skeletal Senescence with Aging and Type 2 Diabetes

Joshua Nicholas Farr 대한내분비학회 2023 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.38 No.3

Osteoporosis and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are common diseases that often coexist. While both of these diseases are associated withpoor bone quality and increased fracture risk, their pathogenesis of increased fracture risk differs and is multifactorial. Mounting evidence now indicates that key fundamental mechanisms that are central to both aging and energy metabolism exist. Importantly, thesemechanisms represent potentially modifiable therapeutic targets for interventions that could prevent or alleviate multiple complications of osteoporosis and T2D, including poor bone quality. One such mechanism that has gained increasing momentum is senescence, which is a cell fate that contributes to multiple chronic diseases. Accumulating evidence has established that numerous boneresident cell types become susceptible to cellular senescence with old age. Recent work also demonstrates that T2D causes the premature accumulation of senescent osteocytes during young adulthood, at least in mice, although it remains to be seen which otherbone-resident cell types become senescent with T2D. Given that therapeutically removing senescent cells can alleviate age-relatedbone loss and T2D-induced metabolic dysfunction, it will be important in future studies to rigorously test whether interventions thateliminate senescent cells can also alleviate skeletal dysfunction in context of T2D, as it does with aging.
