Citizenship as a Communicative Effect

Using ethnographic field notes on the media circulation and uptake of two specific government orders in Hyderabad, India, I propose a semiotic approach to looking at how emblems of citizenship are not simply products of state ideologies, but rather products of a dialogic relationship (sometimes contentious, often ordinary) between “state” and “citizens,” and always with reference to a history of communicative events between the two. I argue that citizenship should be understood as a communicative effect that is mediated not solely by sovereign power and strident collective movements, but more often through everyday processes by which emblems of citizenship are entextualized and the discursive interactions through which substantive claims are mobilized, negotiated, and contested. Such an approach can add both epistemological and methodological specificity to political anthropology and push it beyond the limitations of an anthropology of the state.

The Spontang ophiolite complex exposed along the Indus Tsangpo Suture Zone (ITSZ) represents a fragment of oceanic lithosphere emplaced after the closure of the Neo-Tethyan Ocean. The complex lying south of the ITSZ forms the highest tectonic thrust slice above the Mesozoic–Early Tertiary continental margin in the Ladakh-Zanskar Himalaya. The complex consists of a well-preserved ophiolite sequence dominated by peridotites, gabbros and ultramafic cumulates along with highly tectonized sheeted dykes and pillow lavas. The mantle suite of rocks is represented by minor lherzolites, harzburgites and dunites. Chromian spinel is brown to reddish, and its morphology and textural relationship with coexisting silicates varies with strain. Spinel occurs as blebs and vermicular exsolutions within orthopyroxene to spherical inclusions within olivine, characteristic of which is the elongate holly leaf shape. Chrome spinels are characterized by low TiO2 and high Cr2O3 indicative of their depleted nature. Cr# [= atomic ratio Cr/(Cr + Al)] in the studied spinels are characterized by a small decrease in TiO2 for a larger increase in Cr# consistent with observations for spinels aligned along the Luobusa trend of the Yarlung Zangpo Suture Zone (YZSZ) ophiolites. Variations in Cr-spinel Cr# and Mg# observed in the investigated peridotites may have resulted from a wide range of degrees of mantle melting during their evolution. Mineral and whole-rock chemistry of the Spontang peridotites is characterized by interaction between depleted magma and pre-existing oceanic lithosphere, typical of supra-subduction zone settings. The Spontang peridotites have olivine, clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene compositions similar to those from both abyssal and fore-arc peridotites and display spoon shaped REE profiles characteristic of interaction between LREE-enriched melt, derived from the subducting slab and LREE depleted mantle residues. Equilibration temperatures calculated for the above rocks indicate that the studied samples represent typical mantle peridotites formed within the spinel stability field.
MITTAG-LEFFLER STABILITY OF SYSTEMS OF FRACTIONAL NABLA DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS

Mittag-Leffler stability of nonlinear fractional nabla difference systems is defined and the Lyapunov direct method is employed to provide sufficient conditions for Mittag-Leffler stability of, and in some cases the stability of, the zero solution of a system nonlinear fractional nabla difference equations. For this purpose, we obtain several properties of the exponential and one parameter Mittag-Leffler functions of fractional nabla calculus. Two examples are provided to illustrate the applicability of established results.
An Integrated Approach to the Improvement of Stability Lobes

Redundant spurious loops and overlapping segments in stability lobe diagrams cannot be removed easily by regular methods. A programmatic approach is presented to detect multiple spurious loops occurring within the lobes. They are identified by reorganizing the numerical lobe data into speed-depth corners for subsequent removal. The same principle is then extended to remove overlapping segments of adjacent lobes to obtain a final continuous stability map. Unlike existing methods, the proposed methodology requires no interface with additional editing software, and can also yield stability lobe diagrams more quickly. The methodology is presented with lobe diagrams constructed using milling and turning models.

Degradation, mineralization of bromoxynil pesticide by heterogeneous photocatalytic ozonation

The photocatalysts of Cs doped bare TiO2, 0.50 and 1.0 wt% were prepared by wet-impregnation method and characterized by XRD, SEM-EDX, TEM, BET, ICP, FTIR, and UV-DRS analyses. The degradation of bromoxynil was investigated under visible irradiation with ozone to compare the efficiency of these photoinduced advanced oxidation techniques. Photocatalysis with 1% Cs/TiO2 was yielded 100% degradation and mineralization of bromoxynil in 2 h at basic pH. The extent of degradation was confirmed by GC–MS. The oxidation products were identified by 1H NMR and GC–MS spectral analyses. The catalyst is fully recoverable and reusable multiple times with no loss of activity.
Studies on enhancing the biodegradation of tannins by ozonation and Fenton’s oxidation process

Tannins are used in vegetable tanning and re-tanning processes. The biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) to chemical oxygen demand (COD) ratio of 0.196 indicated that tannins are recalcitrant and persistent. Ozonation as pre-treatment resulted in 20% and 49% of COD and total phenol removal due to mineralization and the BOD5/COD ratio increased to 0.298. Fenton’s reagent pre-treatment resulted in 51% and 85% reduction of COD and phenol removal due to mineralization, with subsequent improvement in BOD5/COD ratio from 0.196 to 0.443. Wastewater pre-treated with Fenton’s reagent resulted in BOD5 and COD of 26 and 210 mg/L in the aerobic treated final effluent.

In the present study, we have synthesized novel Isopropyl 2-(4-substitutedbenzylidene)-5-methyl-3-oxo-7-phenyl-3,7-dihydro-2H-thiazolo[3,2-a]-pyrimidine-6-carboxylate derivatives (6a-j). Elemental analysis, IR, $^1H$ NMR and mass spectral data elucidated structure of newly synthesized compounds. The newly synthesized compounds were screened for antiinflammatory and anti microbial studies. Their biological activity data of the 10 compounds indicates that two compounds posses potent anti-inflammatory and five have antimicrobial activities.
Mesoporous carbon supported MgO for CO2 capture and separation of CO2/N2

Mesoporous carbon derived from pongamia pinnata fruit hulls was used as support to incorporate magnesium oxide for the study of CO2 adsorption and separation of CO2/N2. All synthesized adsorbents were characterized by PXRD, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, Raman and SEM with EDX techniques. Characterization results revealed the existence of magnesium oxide on mesoporous carbon. CO2 adsorption on MgO incorporated mesoporous carbon was higher than bulk mesoporous carbon, due to the electrostatic interaction between magnesium oxide and CO2. High CO2 adsorption capacity 1.68mmol/g was obtained for 10 wt% MgO incorporated mesoporous carbon at 298 K, 1 bar compared to remaining loadings, because of the high content of MgO. However, the N2 adsorption capacity decreased with the increase of MgO content due to a decrease in surface area and no interaction of the N2 molecule with the adsorbent. The selectivity of CO2/N2 was higher on 10 wt% MgO incorporated mesoporous carbon and the value was 40. The heat of CO2 adsorption was 36KJ/mol at low coverage of CO2, and CO2 adsorption capacity was constant in each adsorption cycle over the same adsorbent.
