        This is to investigate the posibility of home manufacturing of heavy chemical industry machines, such as rotary kiln, crusher, blower, cooler, electrostatic precipitator and weighing feeder of cement plant. It is concluded that even though we can not make all of them (some of them are made now and some others are going to be made in the near future, some of them are made whole and some others are made partially), we can build or export the cement plant by importing the important machines which we can not make now and by substituting them with ours gradually.

        Systemic administration of low dosage of tetanus toxin decreases cell proliferation and neuroblast differentiation in the mouse hippocampal dentate gyrus

        In the present study, we investigated the effect of Tetaus toxin (TeT) on cell proliferation and neuroblast differentiation using specific markers: 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine (BrdU) as an exogenous marker for cell proliferation, Ki-67 as an endogenous marker for cell proliferation and doublecortin (DCX) as a marker for neuroblasts in the mouse hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) after TeT treatment. Mice were intraperitoneally administered 2.5 and 10 ng/kg TeT and sacrificed 15 days after the treatment. In both the TeT-treated groups, no neuronal death occurred in any layers of the DG using neuronal nuclei (NeuN, a neuron nuclei maker) and Fluoro-Jade B (F-J B, a high-affinity fluorescent marker for the localization of neuronal degeneration). In addition, no significant change in glial activation in both the 2.5 and 10 ng/kg TeT-treated-groups was found by GFAP (a marker for astrocytes) and Iba-1 (a marker for microglia) immunohistochemistry. However, in the 2.5 ng/kg TeT-treated-group, the mean number of BrdU, Ki-67 and DCX immunoreactive cells, respectively, were apparently decreased compared to the control group, and the mean number of each in the 10 ng/kg TeT-treated-group was much more decreased. In addition, processes of DCX-immunoreactive cells, which projected into the molecular layer, were short compared to those in the control group. In brief, our present results show that low dosage (10 ng/kg) TeT treatment apparently decreased cell proliferation and neuroblast differentiation in the mouse hippocampal DG without distinct gliosis as well as any loss of adult neurons.

        정신분열병에 대한 리스페리돈의 효과 및 안정성

        연구목적 : 본 시험의 목적은 임상시험 시작전에 연구자들을 대상으로 PANSS Workshop을 통하여 PANSS, ESRS에 대한 국내에서의 표준화 작업을 구축하고 새로운 정신병 치료제인 리스페리돈의 효과와 안정성을 재확인하여 리스페리돈 사용에 대한 적정화를 이루는데 있다. 연구방법 : 1996년 4월부터 1996년 9월까지 국내 39개 대학병원 정신과에 입원중인 혹은 증상이 악화되어 입원하는 정신분열병 환자 377명을 대상으로 다시설 개방 연구를 시행하였다. 1주일간의 약물 배설기간을 가진후, 리스페리돈을 8주간 투여하였고, 기준점, 1주, 2주, 4주, 그리고 8주후에 평가되었다. 용량은 제1일에는 리스페리돈 1mg씩 1일 2회, 제2일에는 2mg씩 1일 2회, 제3∼7일에는 3mg씩 1일 2회 투여하였다. 이후 환자의 임상상태에 따라 임의로 증량할 수 있으며, 최대 일일 16mg을 초과하지 않도록 하였다. 추체외로 증상을 조절하기 위한 투약을 허용하였다. 임상증상 및 부작용의 평가는 PANSS(Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale), CGI(Clinical Global Impression) 그리고 ESRS(Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Scale)을 사용하였다. 연구결과 : 377명중 343명(91%)이 8주간의 연구를 완결하였다. 치료 종결시점인 8주후 PANSS 총점수가 20% 이상 호전된 경우를 약물 반응군으로 정의할때, 약물반응군은 81.3%였다. 리스페리돈에 반응하는 예측인자로는 발병연령, 이전의 입원 횟수, 유병기간이 관련 있었다. 리스페리돈은 1주후부터 PANSS양성, 음성, 및 일반정신병리 점수상에 유의한 호전을 보여 효과가 빨랐다. CGI의 경우도 기준점에 비해 1주후부터 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. ESRS의 경우, 파킨슨 평가점수는 기준점과 비교해 투여 1주, 2주, 4주후 유의하게 증가되었다가 8주후 기준점과 차이가 없었다. Dystonia 평가점수는 1주후만 유의한 증가를 보였으며, dyskinesia 평가점수는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 혈압, 맥박수의 생명징후 및 일반 혈액학 검사, 생화학적 검사, 심전도 검사에서 유의한 변화는 없었다. 결 론 : 이상의 다시설 개방 임상 연구를 통해 리스페리돈은 정신분열병 환자에서 양성증상뿐만 아니라 음성증상 및 전반적인 증상에도 효과적인 것으로 사료된다. 보다 명확한 평가를 위해서는 다른 항정신병약물과의 이중맹검 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각되며, 또한 장기적 치료에 대한 평가도 함께 이루어져야 하겠다. Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of risperidone in the treatment of Korean schizophrenic patients. Method : This multicenter open study included 377 schizophrenic patients drawn from 39 university hospitals. After a wash-out period of 1 week, the schizophrenic patients were treated with risperidone for 8 weeks and evaluated at 5 points ; at baseline, and 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks of treatment. The dose was increased from 2mg/day(1mg twice daily) to 6mg/day(3mg twice daily) during the first week and adjusted to a maximum of 16mg/day over the next 7 weeks according to the patient's clinical response. Medication to control extrapyramidal symptoms was permitted. The psychiatric and neurological status of the patients was assessed by PANSS, CGI, and ESRS scales. Results : 343(91%) of 377 patients completed the 8-week trial period. Clinical improvement, as defined by a 20% or more reduction in total PANSS score at end point, was shown by 81.3% of patients. The predictors of response to risperidone were associated older age, shorter duration of illness, fewer previous hospitalization. Risperidone had rapid onset of action ; a significant decrease of the total PANSS and three PANSS factor(positive, negative, general), and CGI was already noticed at the end of first week. For the ESRS, parkinsonism rating scores were significantly increased until week 4 comparing with baseline. Dystonia rating scores were significantly increased until week 1, and dyskinesia rating scores were not significantly changed during the study. Laboratory parameters including vital sign, EKG, hematological, and biochemical values showed no significant changes during the trial. Conclusions : This study suggests that risperidone is generally safe and effective against both the positive and negative symptoms in our group of patients.

      • 고등학교 물리실험의 효율적 지도방안

        School science laboratory has been considered as the most effective and essential in practising students scientific inquiry skills. In physics education yet our reality has such problems as exciting system of entrance exam, crowded classroom, lack of exeperimental instruments, heavy teaching loads and very little known about the teaching-learning models which reflect these problems. In this study which is based on these prevailing necessities and the experiences of teaching, I'll offer four kinds of models such as observation, classification, measurement, experiment which are used in Physics class to improve adequate inquiry methods for High school students. The number of experiments in the new Physics course of the high school is more than that in the old one and the experiments are of higher level. In the Physics teaching, student experiment is desirable but considering our situation which is running the large class, the laboratory demonstration may be more useful. Realizing the inquiring teaching method, I have endeavored to bridge the gap between laboratory demonstrations and experiments and debated on selecting and sequencing the guidelines of subject matter in consistent with the modern philosophy of science education. Also, I attempted to draw the inquiring experiment activities systematically. Finally, several suggestions to improve teaching materials and test items for inquiring science laboratory were made as a conclusion.

      • 일측 하퇴 의족 착용자의 절단단 길이에 따른 보행특성

        This report studied 31 male patients who were in one hospital in Kwangju or came to a prosthesis clinic and are 15 normal control group to analyze the gait characteristics according to the stump length in the prosthesis users with the unilateral below-knee amputations. The patient group was divided into a short stump subgroup of 13 patients and a long stump subgroup of 18 patients according to the stump length, the control group was randomly sampled from 15 males who have similar age, height and weight to the experimental group. The results of analysis are summarized as follows. 1. There were no significant statistical differences of the general characteristics between patient and control groups and there was no difference of characteristics by patient groups except the mean gait distance a day. 2. Of 33 patients with amputation, 18 patients (57.8%) had phantom pain and 25 cases (80.6%) had neuroma. 3. Gait velocity, stride length of the affected side, step length of the sound side and base support among gait characteristics show a significant difference according to the stump length in the state excluding the effects of other factors (p<05) and the group with long stump showed closer gait characteristics to normal persons than those with short stumps. In conclusion, among the patients of unilateral below-knee amputations, the stump length affects the gait characteristics such as gait velocity, stride length, step and base of support and it is found that as the stump length gets longer, it shows the similar characteristics to gait characteristics of normal persons and long unilateral below-knee amputation can secure better gait characteristics.

        In this study, we examined whether Hanganutziu-Deicher (H-D) antigens are important as an immunogenic non-a1,3-galactose (Gal) epitope in pigs with a disrupted a1,3- galactosyltransferase gene. The targeting efficiency of the AO blood genotype was achieved (2.2%) in pig fibroblast cells. A total of 1800 somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) embryos were transferred to 10 recipients. One recipient developed to term and naturally delivered two piglets. The a1,3-galactosyltransferase activity in lung, liver, spleen, and testis of heterozygote a1,3-galactosyltransferase gene knockout (GalT-KO) pigs was significantly decreased, whereas brain and heart showed very low decreasing levels of a1,3- galactosyltransferase activity when compared to those of control. Enzyme-linked lectinosorbent assay showed that the heterozygote GalT-KO pig had more sialyla2,6- and sialyla2,3- linked glycan than the control. Furthermore, the heart, liver, and kidney of the heterozygote GalT-KO pig had a higher N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc) content than the control, whereas the lung of the heterozygote GalT-KO pig had Neu5Gc content similar to the control. Collectively, the data strongly indicated that Neu5Gc is a more critical xenoantigen to overcoming the next acute immune rejection in pig to human xenotransplantation.

        Knowledge acquisition is the process of gathering knowledge about a domain, usually from expert, and transforming it to be executed in a program. It is a part of the knowledge- engineering process, which includes defining a problem, designing an architecture, building an knowledge base, and testing and refining the program. Knowledge acquisition is the bottleneck in this process. Knowledge acquisition methodologies are divided into three categories: knowledge- driven, expert-drieven, and machine-driven. To evaluate knowledge acquisition methodologies, a framework is proposed by addressing the nature of knowledge and problem domains. Different methodologies in each category are described and evaluated for their ability to support various kinds of problem domain and type of knowledge they are designed to elicit.

      • 컬링 경기의 팀 수준간 작전 비교

        This study set out to compare and analyze the strategy used by excellent male curling teams and non-excellent ones in an attempt to see if there were any differences between them based on the idea that strategy affect the results of games. For that purpose, total ten curling male teams that competed in the 2003 National Winter Athletic Games were chosen. Four of them were defined excellent while the rest six non-excellent. Among the total 1,385 strategy used by the 40 players of the ten teams, 1,124 that were identified as successful were selected. A 6㎜ Camcorder was used to tape the games, which were played using a VTR. The game data was put down on the recording document by the investigator in order to increase the validity. Based on the data recorded on the document, the frequencies were presented in percentage and x² tested according to the research purposes. Those research methods and processes led to the following results: First, there were significant differences between the excellent and non-excellent teams in strategy. Among the subcategories of the strategy, there were significant differences between the two groups in the draw strategy. Second, there were found significant differences in the strategy by ends during the early ends including End 1, 2, and 3 out of the ten ends between the two groups. Third, the two group of teams showed significant differences in the skip strategy among the strategy by positions.

      • 식품가공공장 폐수의 미생물학적 처리 및 응용 : 미생물 균체단백질 회수 Recovery of Mycelial Proteins

        식품공장 폐수에는 각종 유기물을 다량 함유하고 있다. 이와 같은 식품공장 폐기물의 미생물학적 처리효과를 검토하는 동시에 폐수 중에서 배양된 곰팡이 균체단백질을 분리·회수함으로 해서 폐수처리비용을 절감하고, 단백질 함량이 높은 균체단백사료를 개발할 목적으로 식품공장 폐수의 BOD 및 COD를 낮은 수준으로 감소시키고 증식속도가 빠르며 균체수율이 높고 고농도의 단백질을 함유하며 소화율이 높은 균체를 생산할 수 있는 곰팡이로 Aspergillus fumigatus를 분리·선발하였고, 선발된 균주의 최적배양조건인 35∼40℃, pH 4.0∼4.5에서 pilot plant의 연속배양장치를 이용하여 주정공장 폐수를 기질로 하여 일정시간 동안 배양하여 폐수의 BOD, COD를 90% 이상 감소시켜 폐수정화를 도모할 수 있었으며 균체단백질을 기준 배합사료에 첨가하여 실시한 동물사양 시험 결과, 사양동물의 체중증가량과 단백질 이용율이 대조표준 시험구에 준할 수 있는 효과를 보여 주었다. The rationale for the use of fungi in treating waste streams from food processing plants has been that of incorporating the dissolved and suspending nutrients into a macroscopic organism which can be filtered out readily. In order for a process using fungi to meet these objectives we examined a strain of fungi, Aspergillus fumigatus, which grew well on a variety of polysaccharide-containing materials and showed both efficient BOD removal and high quality protein recovery. In this experiment the fungal choice was based on the laboratory screening studies where the criteria used was BOD and COD reduction, growth response, mycelial yield, and the ability to compete with the natural flora. In the fermentation system used for the continuous culture of Aspergillus fumigatus the best combination of operating variables, inoculum ratio. temperature, initial pH, fermentation time and agitation rate was 5%(v/v), 35∼40℃, pH 4.5∼5.0, 2days and 150rpm, respectively. The fungus reduced BOD and COD to 94.0 and 90.4%, respectively and 3.15g of dry mycelium per liter of alcohol waste was harvested during 48hr of incubation time. The protein efficiency ratios for the control diet and the experimental diet containing the fungal protein were 3.42±0.15 and 3.40±0.43, respectively.
