Jones, Daniel W. The Korean Society for Preventive Medicine 1994 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.27 No.2
In hypertensives, electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Animal and human studies suggest an association between left ventricular mass and dietary sodium (Na) intake. This study determined if dietary Na intake in a homogenous ethnic population is associated with electrocardiographic LVH (S in Vl + R in $V5{\geq}5.5 mV$). Blood pressure (BP), body mass index, EKG, and 24 hour urine Na and potassium (K) excretion were determined in 40 otherwise healthy Korean patients with untreated essential hypertension on the standard Korean diet. Among these variables, only Na excretion (mmol/day) was significantly different between those with and without LVH $[LVH+:357{\pm}50,\;LVH-;\;268{\pm}25(p=0.04]$. Thus, dietary sodium intake may be predictive of electrocardiographic LVH.
Informed Consent for Scholarly Articles during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Jones Xaviar Michael,Zimba Olena,Gupta Latika 대한의학회 2021 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.36 No.3
The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has caused a breakdown in the healthcare system worldwide. The need to rapidly update guidelines in order to control the transmission in the population and for evidenced-based healthcare care has led to the need for timely, voluminous and valid research. Amid the quest for a vaccine and better therapies, researchers clamouring for information has led to a wide variety of ethical issues due to the unique situation. This paper aims to examine the positive and negative aspects of recent changes in the process of obtaining informed consent. The article outlines the various aspects, from history, previously described exemptions to consenting as well as those implemented during the pandemic and the current impact of virtual methods. Further, the authors make recommendations based on the outcome of suggested adjustments described in the literature. This article looks into increasing the awareness of physicians and researchers about ethical issues that need to be addressed to provide optimal care for patients while assuring their integrity and confidentiality.
A Novel, Reactive Green Iron Sulfide (Sulfide Green Rust) Formed on Iron Oxide Nanocrystals

Iron oxide nanocrystals are of great scientific and technological interest. In this work, these materials are the starting point for producing a reactive nanoparticle whose surface resembles that of natural green rusts. Treatment of iron oxide nanoparticles with cysteamine leads to the reduction of iron and the formation of a brilliant green aqueous solution of nanocrystals rich in iron(II). These materials remained crystalline with magnetic and structural features of the original iron oxide. However, new low-angle X-ray diffraction peaks as well as vibrational features characteristic of cysteamine were found in the nanocrystalline product. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray photoemission (XPS) and Mössbauer spectroscopies indicated the presence of an iron(II)-rich phase with high sulfur content analogous to the iron–oxygen structures found in natural green rusts. Electron microscopy found that these structural components remained associated with the nonreduced iron oxide cores. These sulfur-rich analogs of natural green rusts are highly reactive and were able to rapidly degrade a model organic dye in water. This observation suggests possible actuation with a cysteamine treatment of inert and magnetic iron oxide particles at the point-of-use for environmental remediation.

Graphic Abstract

ACS Electronic Supporting Info
