        Assessing the research efficiency of Chinese higher education institutions by data envelopment analysis

        This paper examined the research efficiency of Chinese higher education institutions with a sample of 105 universities (35 universities in each group of “Project 211”, “Project 985” and general universities). In order to analyze the relative research efficiency among “Project 211”and “Project 985” and general universities, the method of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was implemented with EnPAS software. The result showed that research efficiency of “Project 211” universities was lower than “Project 985” and general universities. Secondly, the research efficiency of the selected universities in China differed by region (eastern, central, western) and the type of universities (polytechnic, comprehensive, others). The implications of this study were presented at the government and university levels. The government should rearrange the financial support programs and evaluation criteria for universities. Universities also need to formulate strategies and systems for efficient operation and performance improvement.

        중국 고등학생의 고등교육수익에 대한 기대에 관한 탐색적 분석

        본 연구에서는 중국 고등학생의 고등교육의 수익에 대한 기대를 탐색적으로 분석하였다. 고등교육수익은 금전적·투자적 수익, 비금전적·투자적 수익, 소비적 수익으로 구분하였고, 학생개인변인 및 가정배경변인에 따른 기대 차이도 분석하였다. 본 연구는 중국 산동성 연태시의 2개 고등학교에서 각각 300명 학생과 그들 학부모 300명, 총 1,200명을 대상으로 설문 조사하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS를 활용하여 교차분석, 일원분산분석 등을 통해 집단 간, 항목 간 차이를 검증하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중국 고등학생들은 전반적으로 고등교육의 수익에 대한 기대가 높았다. 둘째, 성별, 학년, 성적 등 학생개인변인에 따라 고등교육수익에 대한 기대에 차이가 있다. 셋째, 가정배경변인에 따라 고등교육수익에 대한 기대에 차이가 있다. 넷째, 학부모와 학생 간에 고등교육수익에 대한 기대에 차이가 있다. 앞으로 고등교육정책이나 대학운영에서 이러한 다양한 기대와 차이를 고려해야 할 것이다. The purpose of this study was to do an exploratory analysis on the expectation of Chinese high-school students on the benefits of higher education. Higher education benefits were categorized into monetary-investment benefit, non monetary-investment benefit and consumptive benefit. The differences in expectation according to independent student factors and family background were analyzed. The survey data on every high school’s 300 students and 300 their parents total 1200 in 2 high schools in YanTai was put into the analysis. The differences among groups and items were analyzed using Cross tabulation, ANOVA, etc with SPSS. The major findings are as follows. First, Chinese high-school students’ overall expectation on higher education benefits was high. Second, Expectation on higher education benefits differed according to independent student factors, such as gender, academic year, grade, etc. Third, expectation on higher education benefits differed according to factors of family background. Fourth, level of expectation on higher education benefits between parents and students differed. In the future, the government should consider such various expectations and differences when dealing with higher education policies and university operation.

        Genome-wide analysis and environmental response profiling of SOT family genes in rice (Oryza sativa)

        Sulphotransferase (SOT) catalyses the transfer of a sulphonate group from 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphosulphate (PAPS)to an appropriate hydroxyl group of various substrates with the parallel formation of 3'-phosphoadenosine 5'-phosphate (PAP). Although several SOTs have been identified and characterized in mammalian, their role in plant is still unclear. In this study, we report genome-wide comprehensive expression analysis of 35 putative SOT genes in rice. The 35 OsSOTs were tandemly arranged into six clusters. The phylogenetic analysis showed that there were 7 subfamilies of OsSOTs and 11 putatively conserved motifs. Six OsSOTs might be pseudogenes,25 have the two motifs which were involved in PAPS binding regions I and IV. Microarray data indicated that all the OsSOTs were expressed almost at the same level but with different patterns: most OsSOTs were expressed exclusively in stigma and ovary and induced by IAA and BAP, several genes were induced by tZ and DMSO and 11 OsSOTs were response to abiotic stress. Further analysis showed that these 11 genes contained cis-regulatory elements responding to abiotic stresses.

        Development of an Adaptive-Feedrate Planning and Iterative Interpolator for Parametric Toolpath with Normal Jerk Constraint

        Compared to conventional linear and circular segments, the parametric curve has advantages in approximating and machining, guaranteeing higher machining precision and better machining quality. Therefore, in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, parametric toolpath has become more and more popular for its high-performance in practical machining and the performance of the parametric interpolator has become a standard to illustrate the advanced CNC systems. In this paper, adaptive-feedrate planning and the iterative interpolator have been developed to generate sampling points with respect to error and higher order kinematic constraints. Firstly, a jerk-limited feedrate profile and look-ahead algorithm are utilized to provide reachable feedrate at critical points. Afterwards, normal jerk (i.e. the jerk in a normal direction) are limited to improve machining precision and quality. In theory, it is proved that the normal jerk limitations have relationship with curvature derivative and a novel iterative interpolator is proposed to ensure the normal jerk limitation by considering the corresponding constraints at curvature derivative extreme points. Finally, simulation and experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency and contour performance of the proposed method compared to conventional method and time-optimal method.

      • Effect of cement as mineral filler on the performance development of emulsified asphalt concrete

        Cold-mixed asphalt mixture is a widely recommended asphalt pavement materials with potentially economic and environmental benefits. Due to the reduction of natural non-renewable mineral resources, powder minerals with similar properties are considered as new mineral fillers in asphalt mixtures. This study explored the feasibility of using cement to replace natural limestone powder (LP) in emulsified asphalt concrete modified by styrene-butadiene styrene copolymer. The experimental tests, including compressive strength, Marshall stability as well as moisture susceptibility test, were used to investigate the mechanical properties, the Marshall stability, flow value, as well as the moisture damage. In addition, the influence of material composition on the performance of asphalt concrete is explained by the microstructure evolution of the pore structure, the interface transition zone (ITZ), and the micromorphology. Due to mineralogical reactivity of cement, its replacement part of LP improved the mechanical properties, Marshall stability, but it will reduce the moisture susceptibility and flow value. This is because with the increase of the cement substitution rate, the pore structure of the asphalt concrete is refined, the width of ITZ becomes smaller, and the microstructure is more compact. In addition, asphalt concrete with a larger nominal particle size (AC-16) has relatively better performance.
