Optical Dipole Trap without Inhomogeneous ac Stark Broadening
JiYoungKim,JiSunLee,JoonHyukHan,D.Cho 한국물리학회 2003 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.42 No.IV
We use a three-level structure of the $6S-6P-6D$ states of cesium atoms to build an optical trap where the $6S_{1/2}$ and the $6P_{3/2}$ states have the same ac Stark shift. There is no inhomogeneous broadening of the $D2$ transition inside the optical trap. The loading rate is increased as a result of improved Doppler cooling. However, the loss rate also increases, and there is no large gain in the number of trapped atoms compared with that of an optical trap with large inhomogeneous broadening. The lifetime and the temperature of the optically trapped atoms also do not depend critically on the broadening of the $D2$ resonance.
Effects of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons on Liver and Lung Cytochrome P450s in Mice
JiYoungKim,SangKyuLee,ChunHwaKim,TaeWonJeon,문창규,Hye-SookLee,SunDongYoo,EungSeokLee,TaeCheonJeong 대한약학회 2003 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.26 No.5
Certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been reported to induce cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A1 and 1A2. In the present study, the effects of six well-known PAHs, such as benzo[a]pyrene, benz[a]anthracene, dibenz[a,h]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[k]fluorancene and benzo[b]fluorancene, on the activities of hepatic and pulmonary CYP enzymes were investigated in male ICR mice. When mice were treated intraperitoneally with 3, 10 and 30 mg/ kg of individual PAHs for 3 consecutive days, the activities of ethoxyresorufin- and methoxyresorufin- O-dealkylases were significantly and differentially induced in both liver and lung. Moreover, other CYP isozyme-associated monooxygenase activities were also induced significantly in liver and lung with characteristic induction profiles. Our present results suggest that individual PAHs might have inductive effects on CYP isozymes, and that the characteristic inductive effects of individual PAHs on certain CYP isozymes would be developed as a marker for determining exposure to certain PAHs.

Purpose: Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a device that activates the sensorimotor cortex through electrodes attached to the surface of the skin. However, it is difficult to expect positive changes if the recipient is not attentive to the motion. To complement the perceived cognitive limitations of FES, we attempted to investigate the changes of sensorimotor cortex activity by simultaneously providing action observation with FES. Methods: Electroencephalogram was measured in 28 healthy volunteers. Relative band power over the sensorimotor cortex was analyzed and compared in three conditions: during rest, during FES alone, during action observation with FES. Results: The results showed significant differences in each relative band power. Relative alpha power and relative beta power were the lowest by application of FES combined with action observation, while the relative gamma power was the highest. Conclusion: These results suggest that combining FES with observation could be more effective than FES alone in neurorehabilitation.

AMP-activated protein kinase sucrose non-fermenting 1 (Snf1) is a representative regulator of energy status that maintains cellular energy homeostasis. In addition, Snf1 is involved in the mediation of environmental stress such as salt stress. Snf1 regulates metabolic enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase, indicating a possible role for Snf1 in metabolic regulation. In this article, we performed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to profile the metabolic changes induced by Snf1 under environmental stress. According to our NMR data, we suggest that Snf1 plays a role in regulating cellular concentrations of a variety of metabolites during environmental stress responses.
