Bi2O3 buffer layers were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates by an R.F. magnetron sputtering method in order to improve the ferroelectric properties of SBT (SrBi2Ta2O9) thin films. The volatility of bismuth brings about an obvious non-stoichiometry of the SBT thin films and causes secondary phases to appear. The Bi2O3 buffer layers were found effective in achieving a lower crystallization temperature and in interrupting the diffusion of Pt towards SBT thin films. In this experiment, we have found that the presence of Bi2O3 buffer layers was responsible for the enhanced ferroelectric properties and crytallinities of SBT thin films. 백급(Bletilla striata Reichenbach fil.) 분획물의 항산화, 항염증 효과와 화장품소재로서의 연구

항산화, 항염증 효과는 화장품 소재에서 중요한 요소이다. 항산화, 항염증은 피부노화 예방과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 백급은 이전부터 약리활성이 뛰어난 것으로 알려져 왔다. 실험재료는 백급의 에틸아세테이트, 부탄올, 물분획물을 사용하였다. 항산화 효과는 DPPH, ABTS+ radical scavenging 실험으로 확인하였다. 다양한 분획물중, 백급의 에틸아세테이트 분획물이 LPS에 유도된 nitric oxide의 생성을 농도 의존적으로 감소시키는 것을 증명하였다. 게다가, nitric oxide 생성의 상위 기작인 iNOS, COX-2 단백질 발현도 저해하였다. 우리는 백급 분획물의 항산화, 항염증 효과가 항 노화 및 피부염증 개선 화장품 소재로서의 가능성을 기대한다. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of active ingredients in cosmetics are very important. The effects are closely related to the prevention of skin aging. Among medicinal plants, Bletilla striata Reichenbach fil. has well-known pharmacological activity. Extracted samples were prepared using sequential fractionation of ethyl acetate, butanol, and water. The antioxidant effect of the fractions was confirmed by DPPH and ABTS+ radical scavenging. Among the various fractions of B. striata Reichenbach fil., ethyl acetate was associated with a reduction in nitric oxide production, which was induced by LPS (lipopolysaccharide) treatment in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, the production of iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase) and COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which are upstream regulators of nitric oxide production, was also inhibited. Thus, the ethyl acetate fraction of B. striata Reichenbach fil. appears to be a potential active ingredient for use in cosmetics.
TiO₂ Buffer Layer의 후열처리 온도 증가에 따른 PLZT 박막의 유전특성에 대한 연구

본 연구에서는 PLZT 박막이 (Pb0.92La0.08)(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O₃ 조성의 타겟을 이용한 R.F. 마그네트론 스퍼터링공정에 의해 실리콘 웨이퍼 위에 증착되었다. PLZT 박막의 강유전특성을 향상시키기 위해 buffer layer인 TiO₂ 층이 사용되었으며, buffer layer의 후열처리온도 변화에 따른 PLZT 박막의 결정성과 유전특성이 연구되었다. buffer layer이 삽입되지 않은 PLZT 박막의 잔류분극값은 19.13 μC/㎠이었으며, 반면 TiO₂ buffer layer을 삽인한 후 후열처리 온도를 600℃로 증가시킨 PLZT 박막의 잔류분극값은 146.62 μC/㎠까지 크게 증가하였다. 하부전극 백금(Pt)과 PLZT 박막층 사이에 삽입된 TiO₂ buffer layer의 특성과 PLZT 박막의 유전특성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 글로우 방전 분광법 (glow discharge spectroscopy, GDS)이 PLZT 박막(PLZT/(TiO₂)/Pt/Ti/SiO₂/Si wafer)에 대해 수행 되었다. A First Synthesis and Physical Properties of Asymmetric Anthracenes-Thiophenes Bridged with Ethylene

Here we report our recent result of a new semiconductor material, which has an asymmetric structure. The synthesized molecules consist of anthracene and thiophene connected by bridged ethylene and substituted with hexyl or dodecyl groups as pendants. The semiconductors were synthesized using a McMurry coupling reaction between anthracene-2-carbaldehyde and corresponding 5-hexyl(or dodecyl)thiophene-2-carbaldehyde. A first investigation of synthesized asymmetry AVHT (9a) and AVDT (9b) for the physical properties showed that they have high oxidation potential and thermal stability. The devices prepared by using AVHT (9a) and AVDT (9b) showed the mobility of $2.6{\times}10^{-2}cm^2/Vs$ and $4.4{\times}10^{-3}cm^2/Vs$, respectively, in solution processed OTFTs.

<P><B>Purpose:</B></P><P>New strategies to restore sodium iodide symporter (NIS) expression and function in radioiodine therapy–refractive anaplastic thyroid cancers (ATCs) are urgently required. Recently, we reported the regulatory role of estrogen-related receptor gamma (ERRγ) in ATC cell NIS function. Herein, we identified DN200434 as a highly potent (functional IC<SUB>50</SUB> = 0.006 μmol/L), selective, and orally available ERRγ inverse agonist for NIS enhancement in ATC.</P><P><B>Experimental Design:</B></P><P>We sought to identify better ERRγ-targeting ligands and explored the crystal structure of ERRγ in complex with DN200434. After treating ATC cells with DN200434, the change in iodide-handling gene expression, as well as radioiodine avidity was examined. ATC tumor–bearing mice were orally administered with DN200434, followed by <SUP>124</SUP>I-positron emission tomography/CT (PET/CT). For radioiodine therapy, ATC tumor–bearing mice treated with DN200434 were administered <SUP>131</SUP>I (beta ray–emitting therapeutic radioiodine) and then bioluminescent imaging was performed to monitor the therapeutic effects. Histologic analysis was performed to evaluate ERRγ expression status in normal tissue and ATC tissue, respectively.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>DN200434–ERRγ complex crystallographic studies revealed that DN200434 binds to key ERRγ binding pocket residues through four-way interactions. DN200434 effectively upregulated iodide-handling genes and restored radioiodine avidity in ATC tumor lesions, as confirmed by <SUP>124</SUP>I-PET/CT. DN200434 enhanced ATC tumor radioiodine therapy susceptibility, markedly inhibiting tumor growth. Histologic findings of patients with ATC showed higher ERRγ expression in tumors than in normal tissue, supporting ERRγ as a therapeutic target for ATC.</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>DN200434 shows potential clinical applicability for diagnosis and treatment of ATC or other poorly differentiated thyroid cancers.</P>

Crystallization of SAPO-5 and SAPO-34 molecular sieves with microwave and conventional electric heating of the same gel has been investigated in an alkaline condition using N,N,N’N’tetraethylethylenediamine as a template molecule. SAPO-5 structure can be selectively prepared with microwave heating because of the fast crystallization of the technique. On the other hand, SAPO-34 is the sole product with usual conventional electric heating because SAPO-5 can be gradually transformed into SAPO-34 structure with an increase in crystallization time. This phase selectivity is probably because of the relative stability of the two phases at the reaction conditions (kinetic effect). Crystallization with microwave heating can be suggested as a phase selective synthesis method for relatively unstable materials because of fast crystallization.
Mediterraneibacter butyricigenes sp. nov., a butyrate-producing bacterium isolated from human faeces

A Gram-stain-positive, obligately anaerobic, non-motile, nonspore- forming, and rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated KGMB01110T, was isolated from a faecal sample of a healthy male in South Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene showed that strain KGMB01110T belonged to Clostridium cluster XIVa and was most closely related to Mediterraneibacter glycyrrhizinilyticus KCTC 5760T (95.9% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). The DNA G + C content of strain KGMB01110T based on its whole genome sequence was 44.1 mol%. The major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) of the isolate were C14:0 and C16:0. The strain KGMB01110T was positive for arginine dihydrolase, β-galactosidase-6-phosphatase, and alkaline phosphatase. The strain KGMB01110T also produced acid from D-glucose and D-rhamnose, and hydrolyzed gelatin and aesculin. Furthermore, HPLC analysis and UV-tests of culture supernatant revealed that the strain KGMB01110T produced butyrate as the major end product of glucose fermentation. Based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics, strain KGMB01110T represent a novel species of the genus Mediterraneibacter in the family Lachnospiraceae. The type strain is KGMB01110T (= KCTC 15684T = CCUG 72830T).
Hypothermia Inhibits Endothelium-Independent Vascular Contractility via Rho-kinase Inhibition

The present study was undertaken to investigate the influence of hypothermia on endothelium-independent vascular smooth muscle contractility and to determine the mechanism underlying the relaxation. Denuded aortic rings from male rats were used and isometric contractions were recorded and combined with molecular experiments. Hypothermia significantly inhibited fluoride-, thromboxane A<sub>2-</sub>, phenylephrine-, and phorbol ester-induced vascular contractions regardless of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, suggesting that another pathway had a direct effect on vascular smooth muscle. Hypothermia significantly inhibited the fluorideinduced increase in pMYPT1 level and phorbol ester-induced increase in pERK1/2 level, suggesting inhibition of Rho-kinase and MEK activity and subsequent phosphorylation of MYPT1 and ERK1/2. These results suggest that the relaxing effect of moderate hypothermia on agonist-induced vascular contraction regardless of endothelial function involves inhibition of Rho-kinase and MEK activities.
