Purpose: This study aimed to compare the level of satisfaction and academic achievement of nursing students' clinical practice achievement between field and online practice. Methods: In this descriptive research, we recruited junior and senior nursing students who experienced both field and online practice from nursing college in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Korea. Data were collected using the online survey and analyzed via a t-test, ANOVA, and paired t-test using SPSS V 25.0. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in the satisfaction of practice between field and online practice types. However, academic achievement was higher in the field group than in the online group. Out of five points, the scores of field practice and online practice were 3.66 points and 3.39 points, respectively, which indicated that academic performance was higher in field practice than online practice (t=6.21, p<.001). Conclusion: Field practice has been shown to achieve higher academic performance than online practice. Hence, research is needed in order to develop suitable field practice models for the New Normal era in preparation for situations that practice is limited, such as COVID-19 and future outbreaks.
Obovatol inhibits NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasome activation

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Obovatol, a biphenolic chemical originating from <I>Magnolia obovata</I>, has been utilized as a traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Inflammasome induces maturation of inflammatory cytokines in response to intracellular danger signals, and its dysregulation induces inflammatory diseases.</P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The effect of obovatol on inflammasome activation has not been reported, although its anti-inflammatory properties have been studied.</P> <P><B>Study design/methods</B></P> <P>Obovatol was treated to macrophages with inflammasome triggers, and secretions of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-18, and caspase-1 were measured as readouts of inflammasome activation. In addition, Asc pyroptosome formation, caspase-1 activity, and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) production were analyzed in mechanical studies. Anti-inflammasome properties of obovatol were confirmed in an animal model.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Obovatol inhibited NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasomes through inhibition of Asc pyroptosome formation and mitochondrial ROS generation. In addition, obovatol disrupted the priming step of inflammasome activation and inhibited transcription of inflammatory cytokines. In mice, obovatol attenuated serum IL-1β elevation in response to monosodium urate crystals.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>Obovatol is suggested as an inhibitor of NLRP3, AIM2, and non-canonical inflammasomes.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Reed (Phragmites spp.) is a rhizomatous plant of the Poaceae family and is known as high tolerant plant to heavy metal contaminants. This plant is widely recognized as a Cd root-accumulator, but improved heavy metal tolerance and uptake capacity are still required for phytoremediation efficiency. To enhance capacity of hyperaccumulator plants, ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) as chemical mutagen has been introduced and applied to remediation approaches. This study aimed to select EMS-mutagenized reeds representing high Cd resistance and large biomass and to investigate their ability of Cd accumulation. After 6 months cultivation of M<sub>2</sub> mutant reeds under Cd stress conditions (up to 1,500 µM), we discovered seven mutant individuals that showed good performances like survivorship, vitality, and high accumulation of Cd, particularly in their roots. Compared to wild type (WT) reeds as control, on average, dry weight of mutant type (MT) reeds was larger by 2 and 1.5 times in roots and shoots, respectively. In addition, these mutant plants accumulated 6 times more Cd, mostly in the roots. In particular, MT8 reeds showed the greatest ability to accumulate Cd. These results suggest that EMS mutagenesis could generate hyperaccumulator plants with enhanced Cd tolerance and biomass, thereby contributing to improvement of phytoremediation efficiency in Cd-contaminated soil or wastewater. Further studies should focus on identifying Cd tolerance mechanisms of such EMS-mutagenized plants, developing techniques for its biomass production, and investigating the practical potential of the EMS mutants for phytoremediation.

<P> Through the use of ubiquitous health, or u-Health, services, medical information can be adapted and made accessible via computer and Internet to provide quality healthcare to anybody, any place, and any time. We developed and implemented u-Health services for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and studied their experiences with respect to their knowledge of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and skill and attitude toward the u-Health devices. The u-Health services were composed of telemonitoring and teleconsultation supplemented with home visits. To determine its effectiveness, the u-Health service system was implemented for 2 years with 144 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients in a clinical experiment. The subjects were divided into three experimental groups, each provided with different services, compared before and after intervention, and among groups. The analysis of data gathered through the system suggested that u-Health services can support patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, improve patients’ knowledge about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease self-management, build u-Health device usage skills, and foster a positive attitude toward u-Health devices. The u-Health services for the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients were both feasible and effective from the patients' perspective. </P>
